A few buddies an myself were planning on jumping back into guildwars1 and playing through all the campaigns in order, we all had some great times playing GW1 and for a nostalgia trip we decided to revisit the game.
All 5 of us however, are suffering from severe lag within different areas of the game. Players keep teleporting around, as do enemies. This makes pulling and not over-agroing extremely difficult. Our ping jumps from around 20-50, up to around 300-400.
4 of us are based in the UK, (1 in london, 3 in the midlands.) and the 5th is based in Canada. No matter which servers were on, American, European or International, we all suffer from frequent lag spikes. Oddly enough being in the EU, playing on the EU servers is worse than the American ones. Sadly, its making us not want to play.
Is anyone else having this issue?

I'm as smooth as ever and I'm not even remotely close to the US. Sometimes I experience that when I've had GW minimised for a while and bring it back up, though it clears after no more than a minute.
cosyfiep
no issues here, but am in the USA, could be something between us and you and not gw itself.

I've just noticed that since we have all just reinstalled the game we have the background downloads thing going on atm. I'm gonna see if travelling to as many areas as possible to download everything will help resolve the issue.
It just seems weird that 5 people, each in different areas are all having the same issue.
I guess we'll see.

Ok, so i visited every town/outpost in the game, started every mission, and entered every explorable area that had an adjoining outpost. So I should have pretty much no resources left to download besides player and armour models.
After finishing this, I rebooted the game and spent 10 minutes watching my ping in Kamadan (American districts). In that time my average ping was between 200-300. It went as low as 15, but also peaked numerous times in the 1100 range.
I tried the same thing in the EU English districts and my ping was around 50-150 for the most part. But every 30 seconds or so it spikes up to 300 or so for a few seconds then drops back down to the 50 range.
So getting all the assets downloaded seems to have helped. but the spikes and lag still occur quite frequently.
hmm.....
PS: wish i'd known about that image thing sooner lol :P

I usually play on Asian servers which are also physically in the US sitting right next to the US servers apparently from what I read. But since few people play out of them they tend to load a little quicker especially in towns. Not good for actual play or maybe even ping but some of us with old, slow computers have a hard time spawning in American Kamadan when just passing through there to other places in Nightfall so it helps there.
It can take me up to a full 2 minutes at times to actually be able to move around in American Kamadan so I doubt your computer is that slow though.

EU servers have been shit for about 2-3 years. I guess they removed a lot when GW2 released/shifted them over. NA Servers are way more stable in ping but from EU you always have a ping of 200-300 which isn't nice. Most people play on NA regardless. I don't and I have the same problem as you. My ping is mostly around 150-50 but every 30 seconds it spikes to 500+. It's really annoying, especially when you play Dragon Arena or the like... But I think there is nothing we can do about it. : /

I also didn't have the heart to play lol. Seeing the game so deserted gave me a bad feeling inside :P Loved my time playing GW1 and i miss it. Sadly its over

sorry to hear you wont be coming back, but yeah, lots of folks have moved on as well...but if you want to reminisce, you can always load it up again. There will still be quite a lot of us hanging on for some time.

Definitely
Guild Wars forever!

i'm always in international and even in american i dont have lag.... reason why i go to international, is so that i keep having no lag or just a little, in case i would get lag from american
american districts have most people, so more chance to get lag, EU is same as american to me, unless i count kamadan :P
ps. this is what i experience, so dont go "its not true" cuz i think i see what my trafficlight does (ping ball... lol, new name)

Reviving this thread because I didn't want to create a new one.
Getting a few error 004 in the last two days. When I'm not getting the error right away, I get severe lag that causes me to walk backwards until I finally lose connection. I immediately checked other sites as well as another game and they are all running smoothly. Is anyone else experiencing this?

I didn't experience this myself but in ally chat there were some cases. Especially one team got kicked from UW every time they entered last night.
