Has anyone reached the maximum and if so how many?
The wiki discussion has come to the consensus that the maximum amount is 35 but no one offers any proof. Just theories and formulas.

Has this been changed recently I am unable to add an extra character slot for my 29th toon.

Guess you should send a support request. I can't believe they would refuse to sell you something. The store is still the main source of income for this game at this point in its life.

I checked my account manager page, even though I have all 3 campaigns and the NF prerelease bonus pac I have 26 addition character slots listed.
I just sent a request to support I'll post the reply (if I get one).

I apologize for any confusion our previous responses caused. 28 character slots is the maximum amount of slots you can have on your account. As such, I have processed a refund for order number 1040567****. A $10.67 credit has been applied to your PayPal® account and should appear within the next two to three business days.
The serial code associated with the refunded transaction will be disabled.

I've been thinking about it. I could ask but I don't know if they would tell me or even know but something must have happened with the GW 2 sync. Plus some other GW stuff isn't working, such as the account roll back program.

well, the roll back stopped working a very long time ago (before gw2?) and they just never bothered to fix it (too much work and with their baby taking all the time--why bother?)
I think it has more to do with the store--there are a very costumes that are no longer available as well, so it might be that that messed something up....I do find it strange that if you check your account keys you will see that even if you only have the 3 chapters and eye that you have additional slots (my account with only the three chapters has 2 character slots and 6 additional--so perhaps they see anything beyond one chapter as additional slots now? )

My guess? I think 28 was the max all along as in max you can add.
I bought the trilogy originally which had 6 slots given to you. I am maxed out at 34. 34 - 6 = 28. Cosyfiep has 35 because of the extra slot they got plus the 6 so added 28 as well.
So the max you can have seems NOT limited to an exact number per se. It seems the way they limited the slots was on the number you could add as in 28. So I can't believe someone got in and messed with the software to DECREASE the number of slots total since that makes no sense at all because that would mean someone actually was working on programming for GW1, lol.
The rep contacted probably didn't no the difference between max slotted and max slots added or the the documentation was shoddy. So they thought 28 was it period as a max number. Probably some low level relative newbie with the company.

i love making themed characters, instead of always doing same boring farms (speedclears arent my things, as i'm way too slow for it), plus storage enough that way
i didnt see any notice from anet btw, did i miss that?

I think it was updated by someone posting on this thread since June 2015 is current and there have been no updates since May; so it probably happened a while ago, just no one noticed until recently that it had changed.

Yeah I think that is just a "guess" someone posted on the wiki based on the story in this thread. Nothing official other than someone named "Lance" at anet told someone here that was all that was allowed. He's just an employee and may be misinformed for all we know. Nothing in general from anyone actually in charge at anet.
I wish wiki would wait for "official" word and not based on some bored rep at the bottom of the food change replying to one individual. Because I can NOT tell you the number of times I've gotten wrong info back from support people in all areas/companies over the years.
You have about a 50/50 chance of getting a correct reply from any of these people. Then you have to start working up the food chain. Unfortunately anet doesn't really have anyone in charge of GW1 anymore.

I am the op and this is my story. I own all campaigns plus just about all of the upgrades and the NF presale. In manage access keys scroll down until you see 00 Additional Character Slots. My number is 26 and I am unable to add more, when I tried I got an error message "You can not add this access key to your Guild Wars account because you will already have the rights this key provides. Please click the cancel button and create a new account." I have 28 slots 2+26. My second account which only has the 3 campaigns and no upgrades it has 16 slots and says 14 additional slots 2+14.
I guess the only quest left to ask of those that own more that 28 slots is when did they purchase their last slot.

^ More than a year ago. Lots of people I know in game have 34 slots too. Again, I started with 6 given by Trilogy so I bought 28 more over the years here and there.
I feel sorry for you getting screwed like this. makes no sense at all. You would think anet would want to sell more slots, not less. And the game can handle 34 character slots for lots of us just fine.

I think it is a mistake just like the costumes that are not in the store....and since no one cares to fix it, well, its anets loss since there are folks that would buy them if they were available--

except that now if you check there are only 2 default not 8, so yes, something DID change.
(and yes I checked on my accounts--all have ONLY 2 default + ...6 for the basic accounts--ones that have all three chapters and eye and no purchased slots-- and 33 for the one with 35 slots, see attached screenshot)

anet isnt really in a position to reduce stuff in GW, unless they dont care about losing customers and get way less customers in GW2 (which i dont care about either, as long as GW1 keeps working)
lets find out what they'll do..... or IF they do anything about it

too bad for you, but this month (and not any other month, until they said/fixed something about this mess) i'm not gonna risk buying 2 char slots having a big chance not being able to add them to my full account
i'll keep playing as it is then, no more money anet, especially since you even removed some costume(s)

by the way, if we had the INGAME store, we could check out if we would be able to buy more slots BEFORE accepting them, but since they made that other store, we can buy it, but AFTER that we have to choose on what account we can put it on
so if you buy a char slot now, you get a code before reaching your account, and after that you see you cant add the code anymore
anet wake up, and watch out for your customers, or they will run away, and then your precious GW2 will lose alot too, cuz they dont trust you anymore

Remember when each weekend they used to have a special on the guild wars store ? One weekend it would be storage slots. Next week would be half price costumes. Another week half priced skill unlock packs, etc, etc. When they stopped caring about doing the weekend deals it should have showed us all something about how they cared.
Hell, they broke the linking process for linking a gw1 to a gw2 account about 6 months ago again... this time they tell people they will not be fixing it. You have to contact support for them to manually link for you.
