Community Lead Expansion Concepts
corranbeta
Hi all
Recently I have found myself less and less enamored by the lack of continued support for my beloved Guild Wars. So, I came up with an idea - one that I am sure will have been tried before, but perhaps not. Why not petition Arena to consider the idea of a fan lead expansion to the original game? They can only say no right...
So, I was wondering if anyone here might see any merit in such an idea and/or would want to try to get involved?
The idea - develop a small expansion to the existing world, opening a previously unexplored part of one of the maps (logically Tyria first, then maybe moving forward to Cantha and Elona) Add in a new possible title and a few bits and bobs (weapon skins etc) exclusively to the area.
If this approach was successful, then move on to a full blown expansion possibly giving a little detail for the events that link Guild Wars to Guild Wars 2.
I don't know if this holds any merit, whether others with more skill have tried already or if there simply are not the numbers to make the endeavour worthwhile. But hell, I asked, I tried...
Thanks for taking the time to read this.

They can and they will.
Guild Wars 2 was an extreme failure, and one that Anet will never fully publicly admit.
Enjoy GW1 for what it was and is now. Maybe expect something for a 10 year anniversary - But I find it easier not to expect anything, that way you aren't disappointed.

I'd have to agree with Motoko. Anet hold's the Intellectual Property and the development tools for Guild Wars so there's no way a public expansion could be done from both from a legal and technical standpoint. You'd need intimate knowledge of the server code and structure to interface with it and companies hold that information the closest of all.
Enjoy what we have in Guild Wars. Maybe throw some money Anet's way to show that it's still a viable revenue stream that should be developed further alongside GW2. A true business case has to be presented to Anet that funding development of Guild Wars will yield substantial results, because they're wedded, for better or worse, to Guild Wars 2 and it's enormous drain of resources to keep it's living story going.

"not expecting" yes, but can always try with many people, i'm not as much into GW right now, but would love to see the new content in elona (if the spawns can be undone without needing to do many or all quests.... like the WoC quest, but then right after the first quest, and not like Wik where you need to do the whole thing to get rid of it, even if you didnt do any WiK quests and only complete eotn or proph.... i've seen it)
i am hoping for them to one day release/make it, but not counting on it, so i continue life, and GW (and other games atm alot too)

I really like it, and yes I'd want to get involved but I have to say I do believe they would say no.

Hi all
Thanks for the replies. Generally speaking I agree completely they will blanket "no" the very concept. I guess the best that can be hoped for is that it might give them some kind of prod that the game is still loveD and content is still wanted by the user base. I am drafting a letter with this very suggestion in mind. I expect an absolute Nothing in terms of a response but I shall post again here if anyone does have the decency to respond. Thanks for your inputs all

Hey let me in on the smoking!
I'd like to see a Pre-Searing add-on, and the time between Pre and Post.
1. Challenge Mission. Charrs attacking in waves (in area where Rurik stands). Each wave gets a bit stronger. They can drop charr tokens that can be traded for customized non-max weapons.
2. Level 15+ clearing Northlands unlocks a new quest, allowing them to travel to far North (through secret passage in Catacombs). They have to fight off invading charrs in Catacombs, and eventually make it to Pre-version of Sacnoth Valley, Dalada Uplands, and Grothmar Wardowns. This is in a time between Pre/Post-searing, and you can never return to Pre. Progress of LDoA will end. There's still no access to Xunlai, no Guild Hall, but you can get better mid-level armors and weapons. In this area you can progress and gain a new title, similar to Master of the North, but unique to this area. No contact with Norn or Asura either.
3. These players can stay here. build up a new community, or eventually move on and end up in Old Ascalon and progress as usual. Possibly even with a shortcut directly to Lion's Arch once they're level 20.
4. Pre-Dungeons accessible, including a unique Catacombs dungeon (with access to Pre-Ascalon blocked from collapsed tunnels). Party size increased to 4. A unique PvP arena will be here as well.
5. A lot of the lore between Pre/Post era can be learnt and experienced here.

ANet haven't even reached into new areas on the map in GW2 yet, just 2 tiny zones added in the living story a while back. *vomit*
GW1 released 10x the amount of content at this point, so you see how pathetic ANet is these days.. and everyone is begging for more content in the form of an expansion but they believe their shitty 1 hour long living story is acceptable haha.

Unfortunately we have 2 options:
1) Keep playing GW the way it is, and not expect any changes
or
2) find another game

Maybe if there was enough fans with the knowledge to tackle the issue of Anet allowing fan/user made content in-game, maybe as texture changes at first, weapon designs and armors later and then simple quests/content that didn't really affect the main storyline. The thing is without their proprietary tools, we are limited to texture swaps at this moment. If Anet where smart, they could do a Valve, release the tools for weapons/armors/costumes/cosmetics at least and allow a workshop of sorts, where they gained a fixed fee for each user-made item sale.
Something like this could have happened in the old glory days of GW, but atm I doubt there would be enough people with the required knowledge and dedication interested.
