If you buy materials at the trader, price will increase. So with less bots, more people will buy at trader. I don't see how it can return to old prices...

Actually someone currently in that alliance admitted last night that botting is rife. I used to faction farm back in the days of EviL holding both HzH and Cavalon at once. You get used to seeing MTSC/MQSC teams in the relative outposts, even if it's just leaving for the run - people have to stop to dump faction/merch drops too. Every time I go to Unwaking, I see no one part from a couple of people doing the mission. I don't doubt there's MTSCing going on to some degree, but not to the level of faction being earned. With the current number of players, the current faction amounts are clearly illegit and there's been known faction botting going on for a long time. The Dragon Moss farmer bots which leave from Saint Anjeka's generally pick up the blessing before they kill. We know that JQ has been full of bots for a long time and those also contribute towards faction. Sorry, it's very naive to think that 103mil faction in this day and age is legitimate. As I know people in other alliances who bot with far less faction, you really can't say there's no botting going on in HzH/Altruum at all. One alliance, I'd agree 100mil+ was maybe possible (if the most active players were concentrated that highly and consistently MTSCing for long periods) but still with a degree of botting, but with the second place about 5mil behind? Come on now...

Just to make it clear, I don't give a crap which alliance owns which town. Just pointing out that there is a large amount of illegit faction being held in the top two alliances which is blindingly obvious to anyone who knows the game to any degree. I actually find it kinda sad that people care that much about faction, especially in a 10 year old game that's mostly dead compared to its former days of high population. Guess we'll just wait and see how much the faction drops, eh?

No, they'd just make an announcement like the game's sales not covering the server costs any more, therefore the sad decision to shut them down. They don't need to play games like banning legitimate players en masse. Banning people won't encourage them to keep playing ANet/NCSoft games, quite the opposite. Are you really going to keep forking over money to a company that's banned you before for doing nothing? I don't think many people would really be that careless with their money.

People who really didn't do anything wrong and got banned... I think that number is far lower than speculated. I don't think the reasons of gold selling/third party programs is true across the board though. Seems like someone checked a load of accounts to be banned at once and just slapped the same reason on all of them.

They might not return to pre-botted prices, but the imbalance in the economy should level out. It's economics 101 that if something gets scarcer, the price goes up. I of all people in GW know that . This should redress the imbalance though. Whichever level the prices adjust to will be the correct one for supply/demand.

The imbalance has been the issue as far as botted materials are concerned.

Which is to say, much higher than they are now. Quick lesson about GW material traders (as well as basic economics):

When players buy from them, the mats go up in price.

When players sell to them, the mats go down in price.

Consumables require materials. Consumable use, especially given the presence of wealthy long-term players who have nothing else to spend their cash on, means lots of materials being bought from material traders.

This sends price up.

Still with me here?

Bots farm materials. This has two effects. One, botters sell materials directly to material traders. This sends price down, or at least counters the rising price. Two, botters sell materials to other players who want to craft consumables. This reduces the amount of materials players buy from material traders, again slowing down the price increase.

There is utterly no reason to assume that a sudden drop in the supply of crafting materials is going to somehow make them cheaper.

Material prices will only go up (ones used in cons that is), and they'll probably start doing it a lot faster.

When do you think plant fibres will break 1k at the trader?

I've argued before that botting is somewhat of a necessary evil in a game with declining population. That's if you want to stand a chance of being able to afford some items. There's going to be a lot of inflation on the way pretty soon. Not saying that botters shouldn't be banned or that people should bot, just that they do help keep prices low.

If no official announcement or a screen of a conversation with a GM, you can say what you want. Ok let's start a new rumor : I heard that they'll ban once a week to clean GW1 servers and launch they new GW2 extension.

i think people get banned if they BUY gold as well, not just sell.

There are other things that you could get banned for not just botting, buying /selling gold

as i said before, there are many reasons to get a ban besides botting and selling gold
you also get banned for buying gold from a gold seller for example.

That's a load of crap regarding hzh!! Sure there were a ton of people BUT no way could that be sustained 24/7 without botting.

back in the day...there was no extra storage and some stores were almost giving gw away (you could get a copy for $5)....so LOTS of folks bought extra copies; many are (were) being used as mules for all those items they collect (yes I have a storage account or two). If you think about it buying an account for under $10 gets you at least 4 character slots and a storage tab (or 2?)...which is still cheaper than buying a character slot from the ingame store.

and from what I saw...those gold sellers are STILL standing in lions arch, kamadan and eye of the north (you know who they are...just open the search up when you get there and especially in la and eye you will see only ONE person posting there---for RL $).

No idea what prompted the monkeys over at areanet to do this now--it will not look good for gw2 really (as someone has already pointed out, why pisss off your customer base?)--since they have shown zero percent interest in this game (have some of them even played gw?).....guess we will never know since they dont seem to tell us stuff anymore either. (just glad they arent banning for texmod )

I think it is a response from ArenaNet about the recent mass reporting of the botting problem to the support service (that was documented in these forums with meticulous precision). I don't think that ANet cares a lot about GW, or rather the InGame economy anymore.

I am sure that they have internal guidelines that order to waste as little resources on GW1 as possible, and the highest maintaining costs for GW1 are now besides the server costs (which are probably rather low) obviously the costs for the support service team. This theory is backed by the fact that many have probably noticed that many support tickets get silenced with little words or auto-responses, or in some cases not answered at all.

I've already said this regarding the recent HA update: If you guys piss the staff with your autistic complaints off, they will piss you off with drastic radical measures. One would think that a 10 year old community would by now have learned to moderate itself and not run to the authorities about every itty bitty perceived unfairness - but no. This trend will probably go on over a few more iterations and slowly but certainly kill off what is left of the community. But whatever.

Yes, you guys are right - the vast majority of all bans have probably been more than justified. But I have heard some reports of people of which I am absolutely sure that they did not do anything that would justify the termination of their accounts (And no - I am not part of these people). And for these people - even if it's just a few - I am sorry that they have to suffer for the stupidity and ignorance of the rest of the community. I am also sure that most of these people will not come back, and that is for a reason.

I think I'm done with my little rant. Peace out!

Arenanet responded to our cries for doing something about the course this game is going to.
Instead investing time into bringing good sollutions they just whipe whats left of their prize winning game.
They know how the state of the game is, for them it just that GW1 has done what it needed to do, maintain a bussiness.
Anet doesnt keep in mind that over 60% of its GW2 player base were GW1 players.
I frown upon how oblivious they are and in a Blizzard way to create 10 expansions to pump in new players and more beneficial for their long term.
If they claim they got their hands full on maintaining GW2, they should get those Blizzard guys out of the office and place actual "Guild vs Guild" in a game that was named partially for that purpose.

This is how Blizzard runs its cash crops too, see how WoW went from glorious 40 man's to 10, then pandas and 6 expansions.

I know this is the game industry, but lets not forget the ten year anniversary is soon, and this is how they treat their games, community, and i hope they will stop this soon, because this is far from the fundament GW1 was made on.

Mostly storage since I buy low sell high for 6 years it tended to compile quite alot. I had fun despite my haters that couldn't stop the inevitable of being one of the top dogs. But it's I've only ever looked at it as just pixels where they looked at it as a way of life. They cared just abit to much & I thought it was hilarious. This is a blessing in disguise to be honest. lol Gl to the rest of you in GW.

I've been in Heroes' Ascent getting fame points. I don't bot or alt but I've
been in teams that do that. My thing has been okay, let them alt and stuff.
I'll contribute with real game play and target spiking and stuff. Other team
members seem to like that and want that, even against hench teams, some
of which are alts. But I won't alt or bot.

I did see a lot of chat about bans yesterday. Today I logged in and I'm still in
the game. A little afraid to touch HA though.

I also did what I suggest others do if they've put years into this game. Take
screen shots of all your title tracks and how much of each type of faction
your account has earned. Use photoshop to crop if you want. And screen
shots of your HoM, both in the game and on the GW2 calculator website.
That way you have documented what you've done in the game. That may
appeal to people who identify as gamers. Just so you have something to
show or see in the future, especially because the GW servers will probably
not be running for another ten years.

And if you get banned afterward, maybe it won't be so bad. You still have
documented account of your accomplishments. I know it's just a game and
people like to say that a lot and it is a game. But I'm sure a lot of people will
feel like their college transcripts got totally erased for good if their GW
account gets banned. The reasons for that reaction vary and are for reasons
of each individual. I don't wish to flame people for having such reasons and
feelings. If I'm concerned, it's about adverse emotional effects in general.

No.1 and No.2 alliances were 90% bots
Most of them got took out during that banwave.

I'd like to see any alliance hold 20+ mil with real players these days haha
and i know this, because i was in Both alliances.

pretty funny if you ask me.

+ both alliances were'nt at all that active really, maybe active for the current player base. but i seen the ally chat dead for a couple hours before, maybe the odd person asking for a pc, or something.

Highly doubt gw1 will shut down within the next 5 years+

They automate it so it requires the least resources possible and sustain itself. All festivals are pretty much at this state. Festival Grab bags, Birthday vouchers, etc all reflect this for future events. StarCraft 1, Diablo 2, etc all still running with near principal.

Delayed banning is effective to catch more abusers at once, counter-strike and VAC highlight this well.
