Playing together (campaign/builds/tips from perhaps a veteran player)
muscut
Recently I set a new goal for myself:
Get 10 Hall of Monuments points to unlock the Fiery Dragon Sword
(I know ArenaNet disabled the HoM rewards for now, because of the bug that gave players 50 points without ever touching GW1).
Yes, I'm a Guild Wars 2 player. A few months before GW2 released, I bought GW1 and all the expansions,
because I wanted to play something until GW2 would come out.
I didn't really get into the game because my first goal was the Legendary Defender of Ascalon title, which I spent quite
some time on. Not soon after I got the title, GW2 came out and I never picked up on GW1 again, leaving my Hall of
Monuments at 5 points.
Now I am back, and I'm really starting to like this game, but I don't think I can play it all by myself. That's why I'm
asking for help!
What I am working on:
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Guide...uments_rewards
I'm following this guide because it seems to be a good mix of increasing HoM points while enjoying the campaigns
and what not.
My current achievements in Hall of Monuments:Devotion (2 points) Any Miniature Statue Rare Miniature Statue Honor (5 points) Accounts Linked Any Statue (Eternal Defender of Ascalon)
I'm currently trying to complete:Eye of the North (primary storyline guide) Currently stuck at 'A Time for Heroes', I even tried using a 'touch ranger' but I just keep dying Prophecies (primary storyline guide) 21/25 done, currently at '22. Thunderhead Keep', this one is holding me off because it takes so much time (according to wiki) and I feel pretty weak.
My main (and only character) is a Warrior/Monk using the Dragon Slash Warrior build.
Any help is appreciated, just to be clear and upfront, I won't be paying you because I will probably need all the money for armors and weapons later.
I will pay you with my gratitude in advance :P (That's why I didn't post this thread in 'Seeking Services')
What would make me happy:Help with missions/quests Help with building up heroes with the right skills/armor/weapons Someone who can introduce me to an active community, as in an active Guild (aimed at Hall of Monuments.
Posting it here because the guilds in 'Guild Recruitment' forum seem to be looking for experienced/veteran players only and 'Looking For Guild' forum is empty!) Donations, but I won't be asking for them since it's not allowed!
Make sure to add me ingame: Conan Zhe Barbarian
And don't forget to leave a message here so I can add you!
Time schedule:
Almost every day from 19:00 - 23:00 GTM+1
**EDIT**
Thanks for the heads up cosyfiep and Schmerdro!
@ Schmerdro, my goal is 10 HoM points yes, but I probably will stick around for longer because the missions and quests are great (if they don't take too much time though)!
Also, I happen to have MOX already, so I dedicated him straight away, leaving me currently at 8 HoM points!
I just started the Nightfall campaign to get a better understanding of how the game works, unlock more heroes and increase my skill

I would suggest not doing eye until you have learned the game a bit more as it was made for advanced people (those who had completed the other chapters), go over to nightfall and get your other heroes and do the first couple of missions there --you will get some points as well as some gold/plat to start you on the way to your armor.
I would also suggest checking out the zaishen quests/bounties as you can pick up some plat there as well (and you might find a few folks needing to do the missions in normal mode)
If you have a few characters that you made a while back--you will get a few minipets when your birthdays come around --so just wait a bit and you should get those without doing anything and that will get you up to another point (if you get 10), though white minis are usually cheap (500 gold--or sometimes our giveaway section has folks giving them out).
There is also a group on facebook doing a lot of the missions/quests--so you might want to hook up with them.

Hi muscut, I'd love to help you out.
If all you want is 10 points then we could do that very easily. I can give you 1 free Oppressor weapon since I've had 2 of these in my inventory for a while and I want to get rid of them. Afterwards you get the hero MOX and dedicate him immediately since he doesn't require any armor remnant. And then you'd be done!
However, let's say you want more points, then we could do the following:
1. Get the Black Moa Chick unique minipet for 1 point. This will require you to finish the majority of all 4 campaigns but, once you have the right outposts unlocked, is very easy to do.
2a. Guide you in the Underworld, do a few quests (not the whole thing), and you can cap the Black Widow Spider at level 20 which will give you 2 HoM points, because it counts as a "rare" pet.
2b. Alternatively, you can do the quest "The Beak of Darkness" on the Kurzick side of the Factions campaign and capture the Black Moa pet at level 20.
3. Unlock a few heroes by getting their armor remnant so they can be dedicated in the HoM for 2 or 3 points.
4. Buy a Kurzick or Luxon armor for 2 points.
5. Buy 2 EoTN armors (they are generally the cheapest) for 1 point.
5. Get the Sorrow's Furnance statue, Fissure of Woe statue, and then do 2 Protector titles for 3 points.
6. Buy a Destroyer weapon for 1 point.
And now you'd have 23 points, enough for the Fellblade Greatsword skin. After this, you could continue dedicating more heroes and buying more armors and Destroyer weapons.
Anyway, I'll look for you in-game. My ign is Neiwun Ravissen.

It was nice playing with you yesterday
I wanted to suggest you a Warrior build that I really like using.
Go to Thirsty River and capture Warrior's Endurance from Custodian Hulgar, then buy the following skills: Furious Axe (from Kaineng Center, Factions), Counterattack (from Kamadan's Hero Skill Trainer), Wild Blow (from the quest Gargoyle Trouble, which you can get from Warmaster Grast right outside Ascalon City), and Burst of Aggression (capture this skill from Enadiz the Hardheaded outside Yohlon Haven, Nightfall).
By the time you get Burst of Aggression, I would stick with Sprint or any other stance you have. So the final build will be: Power Attack, Counterattack, Furious Axe, Cyclone Axe, Wild Blow, Warrior's Endurance, [Stance skill], [Optional].
For the optional slot, I would use "I Am the Strongest!" PvE-only Norn skill, but you can put anything in there. The point of this build is that you are going to be constantly using attack skills so you're going to have consistently high damage output. And that Wing's Axe, that you have, will be perfect for this build.
Alternatively, you could use daggers for even more DPS at the cost of not having a shield. Just replace Wild Blow and the 2 axe skills with Jagged Strike, Fox Fangs, and Death Blossom (all of which are sold in Kaineng Center).
I've had a lot of fun with this build so that's the only reason I'm suggesting it. Of course, you can keep using that Dragon Slash build too. They're both quite powerful.

Yea I enjoyed it too!
I'm gonna try out your build right away! I just managed to get all the skills you asked for except Burst of Aggression, since I don't know how to get to Kourna(Yohlon Haven), I know it's across the ocean on the other side of Kamadan though.
Someone else I met ingame told me I should switch my Sprint stance with Drunken Master, what do you think?

you need to do the missions consulate docks to get to yonlon haven (so you need to finish the quest line on the starter nightfall island with either a native character or the shortened version with a non-native).
muscut
Thanks, will look into that later. Schmerdro is helping me through the missions right now and I already managed to get 10 points in the Hall of Monuments! Up to the next 10

Like I said in-game, Drunken Master is a great skill, especially if you have some alcohol lying around, most likely obtained from some special event.
You told me you've mostly used henchmen so far so it's probably a good idea to start building your heroes so that you can do some HM stuff on your own. I'll give you some skill recommendations for Mesmer, Necromancer, Monk, and Ritualist since I believe those are the professions that heroes can use best.
Mesmer:
- Empathy: Kamadan hero skill trainer
- Mistrust: Kamadan skill trainer
- Drain Enchantment: Kamadan skill trainer
- Unnatural Signet: Kaineng Center
- Energy Surge: you don't have an easy way to get this skill yet, but I'll help you get it on Sunday by killing Maximilian the Meticulous
- Panic: keep doing Hell's Precipice and hope that Moles Quibus spawns
Necromancer:
- Enfeebling Blood: Kaineng Center
- Weaken Armor: Kaineng Center or wait until the Lair of the Forgotten hero skill trainer
- Rip Enchantment: Chantry of Secrets hero skill trainer
- Animate Shambling Horror, Death Nova: Sunspear Great Hall hero skill trainer
- Signet of Lost Souls: Kamadan hero skill trainer
- Icy Veins: Bazzr Icewing, after you unlock Eternal Grove Kurzick outpost
- Discord: Sessk, Woe Spreader, after you unlock Gyala Hatchery outpost
Monk:
- Divine Healing: Ember Light Camp
- Cure Hex, Patient Spirit, Spotless Soul, Spotless Mind: all from Eye of the North skill trainer
- Dwayna's Kiss: complete the quest Graven Images from Archivist Ithimar, in North Kryta Province (right above Lion's Arch)
- Resurrection Chant, Signet of Rejuvenation, Spirit Bond: Kaineng Center
- Aegis: Eye of the North hero skill trainer
- Dismiss Condition: Chantry of Secrets hero skill trainer (alternatively, just do the quest A Belated Betrothal from Tirzah in Seeker's Passage, from the Crystal Desert)
- Protective Spirit and Rebirth: complete Dropping Eaves and Blood And Smoke from Deep Root, who is right outside Ventari's Refuge
- Shielding Hands: Command Post hero skill trainer or you can buy it from the Ember Light Camp skill trainer
- Healing Burst: either The Scar Eater on the Kurzick side or Incetol, Devout of Depths on the Luxon side of Factions (alternatively, you can get Word of Healing from Flannuss Broadwing in Arbor Bay)
- Zealous Benediction: Taskmaster Sadi-Belai from Kodonur Crossroads in Nightfall
Ritualist:
- all of the following are in Kaineng Center: Ancestors' Rage, Bloodsong, Lamentation, Splinter Weapon, Spirit Siphon, Shadowsong, Disenchantment, Flesh of My Flesh
- Gaze of Fury: The Kodash Bazaar hero skill trainer
- Signet of Spirits: Wagg Spiritspeak from Ferndale in Factions, Kurzick side
I know this is a really long list that could cost you a lot of gold. Do with this as you will XD

I played a little bit today and managed to get the Warrior's Endurance elite skill for my warrior build you recommended.
I've tried to walk through the list with all your recommended skills and I managed to get most of them, except for:
Mesmer:
- Energy Surge
- Panic
Necromancer:
- Icy Veins
- Discord
Monk:
- Healing Burst
- Zealous Benediction
Ritualist:
- Gaze of Fury
- Signet of Spirits
But most of them are from Nightfall and I'm currently playing the storyline. Current quest: To_Vabbi! (Second quest after mission 4)
Cya later!

Since you're only using 1 character slot, the Warrior, I advised you to fill out your other 7 slots with characters so you can get their yearly birthday minipets and so you can get more Proofs of Legend for this anniversary event.
If you want to test out a profession, a quick way to do this is to make a PvP-only character and go play in Jade Quarry with the bots :P This way you'll be at level 20 and have access to all your unlocked skills instantly.
I'll give my own summary for each profession below:
1. Necromancer - my favorite profession, very versatile because of the great energy management from Soul Reaping, has access to corpse exploitation, and can do good single-target or Area-of-Effect damage (some of which can be armor-ignoring damage)
2. Ritualist - has access to a wide variety of offensive and defensive builds, and can deal great single-target or AoE damage (some of which can ignore armor)
3. Mesmer - can efficiently counter other spellcasters or physical attackers with their hexes and has good AoE skills which deal armor-ignoring damage
4. Elementalist - can be fun to play but has a difficult time doing enough damage to high-level foes, although they have good AoE spells
5. Monk - mostly played for their defensive builds, although their smiting skills are good against Undead foes, which are somewhat rare; if you're going to be playing mostly with heroes, I'd recommend you choose another profession
6. Ranger - has access to good single-target and AoE damage skills. FYI, I think Beastmaster builds are very powerful in PvE.
7. Assassin - just as fun to play as a Warrior since they can tank quite well in PvE, as long as their enchantments don't get removed
8. Paragon - has only 2 viable builds in PvE: either you focus on spear damage or you play an Imbagon (who maintains "Save Yourselves!" and "There's Nothing to Fear!" on their entire party)
9. Dervish - not recommended, too reliant on enchantments and on foes conveniently balling up so your scythe attacks can hit 2 or 3 targets per swing
This is just my opinion, of course. But I highly suggest you make a Necromancer, Ritualist, and Mesmer just to be able to better understand those professions and, therefore, make better hero builds with them.
Also, when you make a new character, I would choose their starting campaign based on which face and hair style you like best, for that profession. However, if all you care about is getting to level 20 as soon as possible then I suggest you start that character in Factions.

Thanks for your recommendations, I now have the following characters:Warrior (my main)
Monk (pvp character)
Elementalist
Mesmer
Necromancer
Paragon
Ranger
Assassin
I currently have no desire to play any of them except my warrior, so I'll just use them for the extra birthday presents.

you might want to just take them out and see how they 'play' just to get an idea of what they are. (not leveling them all the way, just to say 5-8).

Ok, good choices.
Like I said online, you can focus on only one character and still be perfectly capable of getting all 50 out of 50 HoM points. In fact, as a Warrior, you have the slight advantage that you can buy the Silver Eagle armor which, like all other EoTN armors, costs 10k per piece (unlike most other armors, which cost 15k per piece) and this Silver Eagle armor is unique to the Warrior class. So, while all other classes can only dedicate 3 EoTN armor sets (Norn, Monument, and Asuran), the Warrior can dedicate 4 EoTN armor sets.
And, while we're talking about cheaper elite armor, keep in mind that Ancient armor also costs 10k per piece and that you only need to buy 4 armor pieces in order to dedicate it to your HoM (the headpiece is not necessary).

I don't have much time lately, so I feel the need to farm some gold in the small amount of time I got, that way I can still work towards something rewarding and hop in/out when I want, opposed to missions that can last over 30 minutes. Is this possible for me (looking at my current progress in-game) to farm some locations with a high gold rate per X amount of time? Or am I better off completing the campaign first? I'm probably asking for too much at this point, but I'm just curious .
I know the wiki has some information about Item farming, but most methods have high requirements, are there any simplified methods? They probably don't exist but it was worth trying!

I think it would be a great goal for me to farm some gold to get a new armor set for my warrior (while also working towards more HoM points), since my character is still walking with the boring-looking Sentinel's Tyrian armor set.

Ok if your goal is run up Cash fast missions will never do it; your going to have to do some farming, the very best farm I know of for running up cash is the feather farm outside Jaya Bluffs on the Newbie Island Factions, Kill all the Sensali; ignore the Yeti's as much as possible; Rinse and Repeat; as Feathers are currently pulling in 700gp for 10 at the Traders; even if you don't spend a minute at Kama you'll make a pile pretty quickly; not to mention the Iron and Runes you'll get cash for ... the mobs are rather low level so the Rq are not high at all and I know you can do this without any PvE skills.
Problem is the Farm is usually done by a Fire Ele; OgVDMmy8OHxyKY9WwLoF4ikA the last slots option and can be swapped.
But what are you to do, as a War? I would suggest you try a trick I do sometimes for Nick farming on my Ranger. Go with a party of 2 yourself and a Necro Rit OAhkQQFrRGqjc4oiGqqSzJ3w8iB The MM Rit doubles as a healer so you get a Twofer out of that toon; the Necro is also an AoL MM so after you wipe out your first few Mobs you can basically just get a Zombie Tidal Wave going ripping through the zone; Ebon Standard works wonders here buffing the Zombies; if you don't have access to AoL just max out the number of Minions the Necro can Rip. For yourself I suggest a 100Blades Sword build; Sword has the Best Defensive Skills but with 100 blades you'll do significant AoE damage.
Stone Flesh Aura is not wickedly expensive for Energy, reduces your damage and leaves you immune to critical hits; it lasts 9 Sec with just 6pts invested in Earth magic so while this would not be continual coverage; it should be more than enough for farming because you would be using it in bursts. So I would suggest trying W/E with Glyph (Lesser Energy) Stone Flesh Aura, Ebon Standard; and the rest Sword skill focused on Adrenaline line.
Hope this helps, Happy Hunting BB.
PS Ping me if you see me online IGN: Claudia de Anar, I would be happy to jump on my Fire Ele and show you the route. BB.

I don't know much about farming, since I rarely ever do it, so I'll let other players advise you on that. I find that, if I just do HM stuff, I get most of the money that I want, eventually.
I think most of the missions and quests in Nightfall and Factions, especially, should take less than 20 minutes each. Are you sure you're keeping your 2 heroes with Monk skills on "Avoid Combat" and all your other heroes on "Guard"?
Anyway, if you want to get some quick HoM points then I would advise you to do the following:
1. Complete the challenge mission Dajkah Inlet so that you get some hero armor remnants and then dedicate 5 heroes to your HoM.
2. Complete the challenge mission Glint's Challenge and get more hero armor remnants so that you can dedicate 3 of your EoTN heroes. This will be harder than the previous one but I can help you. If you do this along with #1 then you'll gain 3 HoM points.
3. Keep going through the Factions campaign because you'll have access to some good Necromancer and Ritualist elite skills.
4. After you capture the Signet of Spirits Ritualist elite, you can make a great build that will help you fight in the Norn Fighting Tournament. The other skills are: Painful Bond, Pain, Bloodsong, Shadowsong, Disenchantment, Spirit Siphon and, for the last slot, you'd normally have to get Summon Spirits but I think you can manage without it. It's very possible to fight in this Tournament without using a Rit build on your Warrior but you'll have to buy those skills anyway, for your Rit hero, and you can equip that Oppressor staff when you're using the Rit build.
Anyway, once you're fighting in the Norn Tournament you can get Xandra (only after you defeat her) and have access to another great hero, and then you can get Zho's Journal (after you defeat Zho).
Once you have Zho's Journal you can start the various small tasks required to obtain the Black Moa Chick, which will be your first unique minipet, which will give you 1 HoM Points. But, for the last step to obtaining this minipet, you'll have to do the elite area Sorrow's Furnance, which is split up into 5 parts, each of which takes less than 30 minutes. And I'll gladly help you with this, if you want.
5. Completing Factions and the Protector title, which is the shortest one that you can do, will give you another 3 HoM points.
6. Lastly, you can continue going through the Nightfall campaign so that you have access to more challenge missions and then be able to dedicate more companions to your HoM.
I just looked up the price of a Destroyer weapon and realized they're kinda cheap, if you already have the materials. So I wouldn't mind giving you a free Destroyer weapon, of your choice.
Otherwise, all the other HoM points are somewhat hard to get.
Edit: By the way, have you been getting the storybooks? When you're doing Cantha missions, you should have a Shiro's Return book in your inventory, from the Kurzick Poet or the Luxon Bard in kaineng Center. If you're doing Nightfall, you should have a Night Falls book, in your inventory, from Captain Ahkenchu in the Sunspear Great Hall. If you didn't get those yet then do so right now; it should give you an option to fill any pages you've missed for 100g per page. I advise you accept that price because, once a book is 100% complete, you can get a lot more gold for it (6k for Night Falls and 4k for Shiro's Return).
