Understanding chapter 2 character starting positions.
boxterduke
I just needed to create a new thread since the original one has 10 pages and I do not think I saw answers to the questions I have.
So if Gaile or an RP from GW answers these then I would be thankfull
I still have not read the actual magazine but read the article from other sites.
But I'm trying to understand how chapter 1 characters would start in chapter 2 and vise versa.
I know that you can continue on with existing characters in chapter 2, so I'm assuming that we stay level 20 and not drop to level 1 (in Cantha terms)
Now my questions:
1- The 2 new characters: Will they only be starting in Cantha, or can I create an Assasin and start in Pre Sear Ascalon?
2- Chapter 2 is its own game, so it can be purshased and played alone.
How would that go with starting a new character?
If I'm bringing level 20 old characters from chapter 1 into chapter 2 how would the people with only chapter 2 characters (they will be starting level 1) play in pugs and such with people with level 20 characters from chapter 1?
3- I just thought of a new question (or remembered really )
Will people that only buy chapter 2, have access to chapter 1 characters. So will they have 8 characters to choose from or just the 2 new ones included in chapter 2?
A few more questions:
4- People with both chapters can go back and forth between both chapters. Would people with chapter 1 only be on separate instance or district (much the same as when a game update happens) to prevent trading of chapter 2 weapons and items to chapter 1 only people. Or would all be on the same districts but items will not be usable for people with chpater 1.
I think this game article confused people even more. Its not very informative or obvious.
I believe that I have a couple more questions but cannot remember them now.
But these are the 2 main ones and would not mind them getting answered.
Note: if you do not know the answer then PLEASE do not post speculations. I would like to know (as well as others) how would the characters be starting from chapter 1 to 2 and chapter 2 alone.

aron searle
This has to be my most important question as well.

I believe but Im not sure that a new assassin or ritualist will start in the Cantha newbie area. I think that was pretty clear in the article.
There was reference in the article to a quest from Chapter two that will unlock the way to LA in Chapter 1. So I think you are going to have to work at "connecting" the two chapters. So once you do that quest you should be able to link up somewhere and somehow with Capter 1 toons.

From what I understand, "cores skill" from each proffession will be available to the Ch2 only ppl.

So I am unsure where your high demand for no speculation is grounded upon.

I think that both character will be seen on the current map but they would have a larger map where they can teleport to like the dragons lair and continue the missions. I think that they 2 would start at new location and if finished the pre map the go to ascolan and continue the game and assend as we have done it (with special area in between) and if they have finished the game (current game) they go to a larger area where they have to fight a bigger monster, like a realy big dragon or maybe the seer but the best way to find out is to w8 and get the 2nd chapter as soon as possible

Also I mentioned above in the original post that if Gaile finds it in her heart to asnwer these questions. I'm sure the Devs know the answers to these questions.
So they might just have assumed that we get the asnwers from the article or just do not want to spill the beans for now.

I will try to answer your questions as best as I can, although some of them are my own understanding from the information I got.
1. I'm not sure about this one, but in some Gaile's transcript she said you could choose your character's birth place, but whether that includes the two new professions, I don't know.
2. I suppose the tutorial areas for Chapter 2 are restricted to those level 20 characters from chapter 1. After the tutorial areas, I think new characters born in Cantha should be about level 10, and can play later missions and quests with other higher level characters just as what it is like now in Ascalon missions where many level 20s run the mission for lower level characters. But I hope in chapter 2 they will figure out a better way to balance this.
3. I'm pretty sure about this one. Alex has confirmed that Chapter 2 only players have access to all 8 professions, they just don't have all the skills for the original 6 professions from chapter 1. They will have the core skills of the 6 professions (how many I don't know, but guess from 25 to 50) plus the new skills for the 6 professions in chapter 2 and they should have all skills for the two new professions.

This may or may not help but it's not speculation. In the past they have stated that Chapter 2 has new content that Chapter 1 only will not have. Now they also said that a lot of system enhancments to the game will apply to everyone in the game (no matter what chapter).
Diablo???
wait, what the hell is considered "core skills"? will my elites still be there? or will 80% of all my skills be jacked??? [o.o]

To everyone posting: if you don't have an answer for certain, don't post. We don't care what you feel like making up. I'm only one step away from closing this thread because of all the junk posted so far.

If you're adding a Chapter 2 key to a Chapter 1 account, you'll have access to all skills. If you use the Chapter 2 key as a standalone, you won't have access to some of the Chapter 1 skills, which won't matter as the new account won't have any unlocks anyway.

Gaile has confirmed that Chapter 1 characters will be able to play with chapter 2 characters, without the ch. 1 people buying anything.
So I assume you are buying a KEY to access the new content. Not a seperate install/game.
Let that sink in, and then reconsider the other questions.

All are good questions so please do not post asnwers if you are not certain since I need this thread to be open to get some answers.
Thank you all...

As with Chapter 1 there will most likely be multiple ways to purchase it, a full retail version with install disks, a Key that will allow you to download the content(much slower IMO), and what ever else they can think of.

So if you 'promote' a character to chapter 2, they can't go back?
jibikao
Have they confirmed the 2nd new class yet? The first one is Assassin...and the second one? Is it for sure that we will see 2 more new classes? I read it somewhere and if I understand correctly, it says Assassin is ONE of the new classes...maybe there's more than 2?

Well, if 1 thing has been told officially more than once its this:
To play chapter 2 you need to be ascended! Does this not mean you need to play chapter 1 -the regular GW- first before you can can play chapter 2? Seems to me chapter 2 is an expansion and not a stand alone game, so you need the original GW to use chapter 2...
Also discussions about the costs show that chapter 2 *must* be only an expansion... I mean: don't expect a complete 2 chapter game for like 20-30$.

If you ONLY have Chapter 2, you can access Cantha and whatever common areas they designate.
If you have BOTH 1 and 2, you can go anywhere.

So, expect the $50 buck area, not 20-30 dollars.
