Return to Pre-Sear Ascalon
actionjack
Well, this has been suggested before already, but include the ablity to return to Pre-Sear Ascalon with your high level character. Maybe include a quest call "Memory of Ascalon", and once done, a "outpost icon" type of thing will appear, where you could return to the "better time" in a sorta spirit form. However, here is that catch.... This not the same Ascalon as before. Or to put it better, it does not coexist with the noobie land. You can not do any of the quest there, (all the Pre-NPC will not talk to you), and can not interact with any of the noobies (but can still talk to and group with other lv 20s there). It is just a reuse of the map, and in it, several new quests and NPCs and stories. The monsters willl be readjusted as well. But in all, you are there more as a way to enjoy the Pretty Graphic again... like a walk in the park.
Now, for fun, could also make it where in the outpost and town, you can still See the low lv players... in a sorta ghost like fade, but just can not interact with them at all in any way. And they can not see you as well. Heck, could even include a quest there to give you the option to just whisper a line of text to a player of your chosen.... so some of them would suddenly "hear" a whisper from the future.....
A Possible BS storymight be like : You are there to stop Thurga, Spirit of Unmaker from destorying Ascalon with his army of evil spirits and prevent him from taking a powerful artifact from the Catacomb. While you succeded, you are still unable to stop him from telling the Charr of the Secret in summoning the Searing...
some quest idea migh include: Further investgate of the Catacomb... Fight off Mind Possessing Spirits, ... A better insider view of how Charrs did the Searing (but not fight them.. since you are in differnt time line)... Talk to a NPC who can see the spirit in order to warn him of the possible danger... and of couse.. Break Gwen's Flute and drop it by the River.
Sounds Fun?

Wouldn't breaking her flute make us a villian? ah who am i kidding, many a times i wished i could aggro a bunch a skales on her...

You can kill that "charr ranger" (Vatllaw Doomtooth) prior to the Searing. Once in a while, he runs into some of the supporting grawl in the second wave. The AI for both Vatllaw and the grawl does not take this into account, so both get stuck (too stupid to go around each other). I have killed him on at least 2 occasions, it's nice to think you are stopping the Searing.

ID LOVE THAT IDEA! then i wouldnt have 2 have a char that stays in pre 4ever

Yes, it would be cool...
I'm thinking, a mission beside Ascalon in Post-Sear that becomes accessible when you are Level 20, called 'Memories of Ascalon' as you said. It is a large mission, of course. In it, you can form a party of two and speak to the magical spirits from Dwayna's realm, who send you to sleep and form your dream. You dream that you are in Ascalon Pre-Sear, and get to do loads of stuff and new quests, finding new items and doing various things, all in a dreamy sort of way. It would really be a nice way for players who have completed the game and filled up all their character slots to return to the land they first started out in as newbs, though they can never go there again as a new character, they can experience the land and find new things to do that would be like a massage to their failing memory...I am one such player, I will never see Pre-Sear again as I have 4 characters and already I am forgetting things about that beautiful land...*sniff*

I think this would be a cool idea. Be awesome for us who have full accounts and still like to go back sometimes.

I would say beside the possible missions/quest/story that would associate with such thing, it is more or less a vocation spot for the end game people. Pre is such great map, might as well as get more use out of them.
You might also be able to explore deeper into the Catacomb.. or discover the "Truth behind Searing", as well as do some activities that is related to all those Pre-Sear quest... (like knocking down a bee hive... or you must find and destory a Flute of Destruction, an instriment that once play the Song of Great Burning, will bring doom to Us all! and its at the hand of a little girl...)
Also would be fun if the lv20s will be able to show them self to the newblings someway, for a brief time. Like have a Shirne, where the high levels (when have and use a certain item) can appear in a spirt form, and talk to the new level people around it for short brief time (like 5 min). Words from the Future!!! (but no item trading)
(BTW... wonder how this got dig up again.....hmmm)

You could actually make it at the statue of Dwayna, when the Avatar of Dwayna is there, you talk to her and make an offering (well, what else can ya do with that option?) after you've done family ties and of course lvl 20. You appear at ashford abbey in pre-searing, maybe in that same alternate world as well. I'd love to see the cats again...i just love em.

Totally an awsome idea I LOVE old peaceful ascalon.
Its kind of sad all your efforts through the game never effect anything at all if you go back so this would be awsome. I mean really think about it. You can go from ascalon to Hell, but you can map back to ascalon and nothing has changed... you can redo all the missions like nothing you did before happened. Why can't you go back 2 years? You can go back to a time when Rurik was still alive.

This is just an idea to reuse pre-searing maps for some ascended content.. I dont see any problems with that.

Instead of proposing to return to pre-searing, I rather have my character play a role in re-building ascalon to how it was before or better (example: the farmer you helped out for monk quest in post-searing, about some seeds that the farmer want to grow; when the players return, they can play more deeply into such story).
If map can shape shift according to what quest you have done to restore ascalon... too awesome. (kind of like different mob spawn outside for quest, except terrain wise)

Maybe something like this is nice after all, though, I don't really want people to go back to the real Pre-Searing, but maybe an UW version of Pre-Searing. You offer Dwayna 1K, and she'll bring you back to Pre-Searing to learn more about how the searing began (and for some reason you can't change the current timeline in Guild Wars ), but you don't really go back to Pre-Searing where all the starting players are. You can do some quests there (stop the Charr from entering at point <name of the place>), kill monsters (Charr, probably) and go in evey place that was originally in Pre-Searing (inclduding Catacombs etc.).
/signed, when it's just something else then the normal Pre-Searing (more something like UW).
/notsigned, if you go to the normal Pre-Searing.

No, not in favor. Pre-searing now is a friendly and peaceful place, and it's friendly and peaceful because the overly competitive don't hang around. I don't want pre-searing overrun by dye-farming invincimonks and wamos. Letting jaded farmers go back there with their maxed out chars would totally wreck the place.

People would NOT be able to interact/farm in the actual Pre Searing. You would be more of an observer with your own quest no one else could join. This way, you can sell uber items, you can't help ppl power level killing charr. You can't farm for dye drops.
You need to re-read the OP's first post.

I hope they have a place like presear in chap. 2. Presear when the game first came out was the most fun Ive ever had in gw...back when everybody was a noob and it didnt matter how much you sucked

Excellent idea, most definitely since it is not the exact pre-searing. I wouldn't want to see lvl 20s running around spoiling the storyline and stuff, either.

I like Maxie's Dwayna idea, especially. Since I have pondered what kind of realm Dwayna could have, she isn't as fierce and battle-hardened as Balthazar or as unholy as Grenth.

Hockster, I believe it is impossible to achieve level 20 in pre searing. Eventually you get 0xp from the monsters and further progression is no longer possible. I believe the max level is 14 or 15.

Its a cool idea and id love to see the map again, but I agree with others who have said its not RPish and flashback is a little weak as a story standpoint.
Id love it though, if there was a completely new area (possibly in Factions) that was built in the image of old Ascalon. Imagine a stumbling wearily through a dark twisted forest or across a desert and coming across Pre Ascalon that had been rebuilt by a bunch of townsfolk that fled during the searing.
Anyway, /signed to see Pre Asc Maps again in a creative way that isnt about farmers making money.

What they did was letting the charrs kill them to lv up the char, then kill them for more exp. Tedious? Yea, they themselves would admit they are nuts.
