Chapter 2, how many chars. ?
Qual
Okay here is a quick question about chapter 2. Will you still only be able to have 4chars on your acc.? Just wanna know since it would be stupid if we didn't get extra room for the profs.
I don't wanna make a long thread out of this, so only 2 or 3 replys would be great.

I think were getting an additional 2 slots for the classes assassin and ritualist.

C2 is standalone. Worse come to worse I just start it on a whole separate new account and get 4 more character slots for a total of 8.
Nothing in the EULA dictates I must apply it to an existing C1 account if I'm currently a C1 player.

Some guy has posted on the Guild Hall saying that there will be 1 more extra slot, which means 9 slots total since I don't think they will be shared between chapters. It's probably a rumor, though...

I heard that you would be able to swap characters between accounts, but that is also most likely a rumor.

From what I've heard...
All Guild Wars chapters will be standalone.
If you upgrade your Chapter 1 account with the Chapter 2 game-key, you will recieve 1 additional character slot; a total of 5 character slots on your Chapter 1 account.
If you create a new account with the Chapter 2 game-key, you will have 4 character slots. You will also be allowed to create any profession from Chapter 1, but, limited to Chapter 2-only content.
If you don't upgrade your Chapter 1 account, your Chapter 1 account will not have access to Chapter 2 content, and vise-versa for all chapters released after Chapter 2.

what about the event scheduled for January 20 through 22? if you have 4 characters, will they add another slot for us to try out or will the event also be standalone?

That means, 10 years from now, if you purchase Chapter 19, when there are a total of 20 chapters, the chapter you purchased will only give you access to that certain chapters' content, and you will only have 4 character slots (e.g. Chapter 1). Of course you can purchase the other chapters and upgrade the account for additional character slots, and to have access to their content, etc.

the old 6 professions are limited (as in LIMITED) to a core set of skills.
implication (hope i am wrong) is that those skills cannot be obtained later unless you buy chapter 1 to get them.
this is specificaly designed to avoid having to give out 8 slots (4+4)
and managing 2 accounts/person.
it would be simpler to just add 4 to the base account.
anybody with official GW (not magazine guess) info to correct my guess is welcome.
it makes sense though and fits the stated facts so far

I have a copy of Computer Gaming World and there are two pieces of information that I have not explicitly seen posted yet (although I didn't read all of the other thread to see if this was already mentioned). The first is that the game gives "one additional character slot". The second is that 15 of the 25 additional skills per profession are elite. Using this information, this is my guess.
* If you add chapter 2 to an account containing chapter 1, you will get 1 extra character slot.
* If you buy chapter 2 standalone and create a new account you should get four slots (because it would be unreasonable to pay full price for only one character slot).
* Since 15 additional elites are available per profession, it would make sense for them to only be capturable in the new area, especially since there are roughly 15 elites in chapter 1 (well 16 for warrior and 14 for mesmer, but 15 for everyone else).
* The above means the following implications to me. The core skills are non-elite and therefore will be available to both chapters (so those not buying chapter 2 might still see 10 new non-elite skils). I see no reason why they won't be available to buy from end trainers. The elites on the other hand are non-core and therefore available only to the appropriate chapter.
* Since there is still a shortage of character slots (two new professions with only one slot available to most), people like me would love to pay extra (but not full price for only one slot) to add a couple extra character slots to their existing accounts. Considering that access keys can be added to an existing account (to allow chapter 1 accounts to add chapter 2), I already see that the mechanism to add character slots will already be in place, so it shouldn't be too hard to implement.
Also, there is a new tutorial area (think pre-searing). There should be a bridge to take characters across the chapter 1 area and the chapter 2 area for people with access to both. Since chapter 1 characters should have complete access to the main area of chapter 2, and I remember them saying that chapter 2 was intended for ascended (meaning level 20) characters, everything in the post-tutorial chapter 2 area is likely aimed for level 20 characters. So, I would hope that the tutorial area is going to be rather big to take characters to level 20 and get a lot of their non-elite skills through quests.
Edit: FYI here are the quotes from the magazine.

IMO the current character limit (4) is already a bit too small. I have three PvE characters but I'm doing PvP most of my time, so I could use extra slots for new PvP characters to help rerolling. I don't want to delete my PvE characters either, because I have played game through with all of them, and I have all-round choice if I want to do PvE. Them are just too valuable to delete.
I was frightened when I heard there will probably be only one extra slot. I expected a bit more. If there is only one slot, there will be loads of Ritualist/Assassin and Assassin/Ritualist characters, because most players want to play with new professions for sure.

One thing I don't understand... Why are they giving us new weapons and Items and now and then new season items (i.e. halloween, Wintersday) IF they don't give us storage space or new char slots?
One good thing would be that you could pay $$ for char slots or storage space. Or pay ingame money for the same porpose.
I.e:
30k for double the storage space, with a maximum of 3 or 4 times that space.
90k for tripling the storage space is a damn good money sink!

I'm not thrilled about it (I was hoping for at least 2 more slots), but I think I see where they got that number. With chapter 1, we have 6 professions. There's enough slots available for you to have every profession plus one PvP character. ie - W/Mo, R/N, E/Me and a PvP character to have access to all skills unlocked therein. With a new chapter, they are adding 2 new professions, so only one slot is needed to keep up with this thinking; 4 PvE charaters with all the professions between them and a PvP that has access to all their skills.
I still wanted at least two more slots though. I'm crossing my fingers that we are reading it wrong and the "one additional slot" means we get 5 and the chapter 2 only people get 4.

Only one slot? So we will have to delete one of our characters (i have 3 characters and one pvp slot) that we have played for hours and hours to make room for the Assasin and the Ritualist? Why don't they just give us 6?

Argh, speculation ... read:
in this thread. I say anything not mentioned by GW themselves through their site and/or their posting on this board is purely hearsay. Honestly, they've been good to us ... quit worrying so much about it and wait for an answer!
And if I may be so bold to quote Savio ...

Thank you Lord Iowerth; I think I'm just flat-out closing any new Chapter 2 threads in Q&A because they're not going to go anywhere. Closed.
