Any player caught abusing the chat with offensive behavior (perhaps just shy of ban-worthy behavior) can be sentenced to several days confined to a pillory in Ascalon (or LA or Droknar's)!

They will be there with the name highlighted in gold with a list of their offenses. Spectators can pay to toss dye of various colors to stain their armor.

Repeat offenders may have a suffix (with their offense) added to their screen name for a while.
e.g. LeeroyWarrior becomes LeeroyWarrior(obscenity) or LeeroyWarrior(trade scam).

This is so awesome. I love it forever. Let me have your reptilian babies.

PS: Oh, oh! And if somebody's really being stupid? Their PvE character gets guillotined, and then actually deleted. Yeeeeeah.

Humours idea..has been mentioned before.
Like having a "jail" or "locked off" area where abusers can me embarrassed for thier crimes in LA or Droks.
But it is still possible for someone to abuse such a thing. People will know players names that have been locked up. Open for harassment or even for revenge by someone getting someone put into jail then going over and laughing at them.

so don't put name on it on the pillory, or alternatively, use a name-mangler to mangle the name.

People don't pay for a game to be harassed and mocked, if it's due to offensive language, use the block filter. If it's due to a trade scam, too damn bad you should've double-checked before clicking accept.

I don't play the game to read offensive comments. And you can bet offenders don't play the game so they can have their accounts banned by Anet. If they're willing to have their accounts banned for their behavior I see absolutely no problem with this form of confinement.

I never thought I'd use this next set of characters before...but...

Bad idea. You don't have a right not to be annoyed. If someone's bothering you, just ignore them or switch districts. Chaining up their characters in town is 10x as bad as anything they could have done to you.

Less incentive to do do scams. however I say these should disappear after a while.

Go play America's Army. Start up a training game, pick up your gun, and proceed to shoot one of the instructors. Go to virtual jail.

It'd be funny, but don't think it would work.

Well said. If someone's irritating you, well, that's what you have an Ignore list for. If you don't like seeing "offensive" language, that's what the chat filter is for. ANet has a long list of better things to do than deal with every complaint of abusive language or trade scams. Especially since they'd need some way to verify that a scam had actually taken place, and that would just take more time.

People who rip people off ruin the pleasure of playing, especially new players.
Some people leave games because of this, which is bad news for the creators of the game (in this case NCSoft / Anet).

The way i see it is, if that account is banned they can't play anyway, so why not have there character in a situation such as a lock up.
