my friend gave me this game.....when i try to make an account it says the key is in use....what does my friedn or i need to do to make the key accessible again.

Your friend needs to tell you his login email address and password.

I'm fairly certain that once you register the key its permanent. So it seems the only way to 'transfer' an account would be to chage the email addres, however i'm not sure if you can change the email address.

The game you are trying to use is under your friends e-mail address. Either you have to use his/her e-mail address or buy another cd key from ANet. The cd key that came with the game is already registered to your friends e-mail and password. Sorry

No, you can change the account's email address and change password. Once you've logged in using the originals ofcourse.
