Main Town Preference (Possible Spoilers)
Sir Green Aluminum
Yeah, I noticed people seem to favour Lion's Arch for trading. Is the reason because it's the new home of Ascalon's citizens? I also noticed that Henge of denravi and Anmoon oasis is ignored in the holiday updates. They're towns too.
Red Sonya
Ascalon main city district 1 is still pretty active as well. Lions Arch just seems to be the middle point and a good place to try to sell middle and high level content. Ascalon is good if you want to try to sell things a newbie can use low level content and resources for starting armor.
Medion
Lions Arch is the trading place, so lots of people go there anyway, and also Lions Arch is the capital of Kryta. Which I think is the biggest human country of Tyria.
boxterduke
LA is the port of Tyria where everyone goes to trade.
Not really sure why LA but thats the way it is.
Droks is a big town also since you get the highest level armor there.
When I sell weapons or mods I go to LA, when I sell crafting material I go to Droks.
When I want fast access to traders (rune/merchant etc) I jump to Amnoon since its easier to find things around.
Henge of Denravi is just a waste of space in my opinion.
As for the decoration, Ascalon got wintersday decoration which I found it as a nice touch from Anet since lots of people cannot get to LA.
During the Halloween update Ascalon was neglected and a lot of people felt left out.

LA is like the capital of a country, everything you need is there, and the most 'civilized' (in terms of a city structure). Though if many people started hanging around Henge (where the storage location is out in bufu), people would use that as a hot spot too.
When I need to get stuff from Storage, I'll go to Fisherman's Haven since you usually spawn right next the storage agent.
If I need a merchant, I'll go to LA just in case I need to sell some other things.
Though, personally, I prefer my Guild Hall, while I'm in between quests and missions.

Diablo???
I'm with Esprit, if i'm not trading or on a mission, my home is usually in port sledge, I like the cold, loneliness out there.

LA has always been the first place people start selling stuff. Some possible reasons why:
It's the first major city after a long long trek through frost gate, yaks bend, etc from Ascalon.
First place to offer everything. it's also the first place where you'll find the sigil trader.
ANet has always used LA for it's major events, including the Frog, Gaile, Holloween, Christmas, etc.
It was the major town near one of the first major farming areas - the drakes.

I use Piken Square for my storage jump. Small area and sometimes I even make a sale there to the lower level players looking for some cheap collectors gear. So, yall all stay in Lions Arch and Droks now yah hear?
axe
I use augry rock for merch sales and storage, its just so easy, I usually spawn right next to the merchant.
Effendi Westland
Droknar is the place to be for materials.
Ascalon if you want to find low req not max dmg items.
The War Camp if you are searching for a particular green.
I've never traded in Lion's Arch.

Argh! Stay away from Amnoon you horrible traders, that's mine! Lion's Arch and to a lesser extent Droknar (but also Ascalon City) have become totally, utterly unbelievably infested with trade spam. I can't stand being in those places unless looking to buy/sell something specific. Shame really.
Diablo???
Maybe its because of the lush foliage that attracts people to Lions Arch?
Red Sonya
Agreed Xenrath and their prices are so high only the most rich could afford them, but, if you hit the newbie areas with collectors gear with a fair price it sells like hotcakes and no one else spamming over your trade window advertising.
Although one time I was standing in Droknars just piddling in my inventory and someone put up a WTB Stone Summit Badges, wanted 5 and was paying 1k each for them. Well I had about 38 of them easy to get really. And made a quick 5k on something simple like those.
And Bleached SHells you can get 10k for those puppies. I've seen some desperate people in my time but to pay 10k for 1 bleached shell gotta love that.

I usually go to droks, aslcalon or LA disc 1 for trading, depending on what im trying to sell or buy. For exaple i try to sell/buy crafting materials in droks beacuse the armor there requires quite a bit of materials. If im selli/buying any type of weapon i usually go to LA and Ascalon.
I agree that amnoon oasis and Henge should have been decorated too since they are an outpost..but it seems as if not many people are at either. At least they decorated more towns for wintersday than they did for halloween though

i guess it's becauese during the WPE and a little after, new characters were kicked in at LA, which was designed before Ascalon
(I miss the beta-Ascalon with the great fire).

I miss pre-searing Ascalon <sniff> hehe Boy if I could get back there with my collector gear haha

Ahh, Amnoon. It's beautiful, it's more or less free of trade-spam, and it is ignored by the holiday updates. If I would label any city as home base, it would be Amnoon.
Weird... it's a city and the local chat is mostly "people" discussing the "game" and looking for "parties" rather than going on and on about WTS and WTB. Very very very nice in my opinion.
So yeah, trade spammers stay out of Amnoon please. It's quiet and I like it that way.

Well, like some mentioned, Lion's Arch was the first town to be ever played during the Beta Weekends. All the best sell and buy were in Lion's Arch, and naturally people just use it as trading town rest of the time. As time progress, there are always new arrival in Lion's arch keeping the population steady, while Droknar and Denravi needed at little more time for people to reach.
As of now, it really doesn't matter anymore. However, people seem to be following the tradition.
Besides, Lion's Arch's weather is very nice.

I enjoy hanging out in Maguma stade...theres rarely ne one there. If i want to have local chat on ill go to port or grotto...but other places i only go to if im in the last international district...
Of course if i wanna sell stuff i go to lions (weps), Droks or ascalon(matts), or ill go to war camp(greens).

I use LA for almost everything, I just find it a very pleasant place to be. All the traders are in one spot (well most of them) and storage is just a short jaunt away. The only bad thing is people spamming the normal chat with buying and selling, I absoloutly despise it.
sledgeunderhill
For auctions done online, I like to meet in Grendich Courthouse International - storage is close, there's rarely anyone there except for the trader and myself.
nunix
Ice Tooth Cave, yo. Best outpost in the game! Cor, oftentimes I'm literally the only person there.. maybe that's why it's not so good for trading.. -.-

Ppl in the desert mostly trade in Augury, since it's close to farming spots, prolly why amnoon is ignored.
Valerius
i like LA cause' the traders and the storage are all close to each other

Quarrel Falls for me. I always jump there if I need to switch items between characters or if i need a merchant.
Numa Pompilius
Lions arch is practical - it's a big town, all traders and merchants are present, and storage is close to the traders/merchant. If one always spawned close to the 'merchant street' and storage was moved to 'merchant street' it'd be perfect.
Droknars is also big, but layout is hopeless - everything requires five minutes jogging (damn, one shell short of a bonelace armor, jog to storage, jog back, hmm, need runes, jog to rune trader etc etc). And let's not even talk about trading (-"Where are you" -"By the rare scrolls trader" -"Where's that?" -"Not sure!").
LA is in between, and most things can be done without jogging around for ages.
I use D'Alessio Seaboard or Gates of Kryta for my switching, because it's small and storage next to merchant.

It will be interesting to see how ANet will do future events...both cities from Chapter 2 and chapter 1?
King's Spectre
Fort Ranik (PRE) Dist2 FTW!! I've had the best converstions with the random other person that pops in there!
Ok for post I like to pop into Beetlton (sp?). Everything's close by, you can customize a new weapon, and the skill trainer sells sigs.
