I'm new to GW and I'm trying out some different builds for my Mo/W. Right now I'm trying out 2 builds. The Healing build is for when I'm in a group so I can Heal/Protect the other members. The Smiting build is for when I'm alone or with Henchmen. I'm lvl 11 using the following gear.

I don't know which skills you may equip at that point, I personally don't like heal area, you have to be really careful when you use it and usually the party is spread when fighting. You probably don't have enough time to check where everyone is and to make sure there are no mobs in the area of effect. Heal party is a much better skill and you already equip it so it feels to me like a duplication. Try mend conditions or ailment if you have it it works wonderfully, or remove hex...
About smiter, i can't say much cause i never liked it; symbol will make enemies flee from you so again you have to be really careful; i would take some defensive stances rather than protection skills, let a full healer take care of you. Again, I don't know which skills you have unlocked so i can't really say what i would take instead of....
Best thing i can tell you is every once in a while completely change your build and take skill you never equipped before, you might find something that suits you better than you thought. Have fun!

When I made my monk I tried every new skill that I got just to see how it worked. I changed my skill bar a lot. Gradually I went from a healer/protection, healer/smiter to just plain healer.
I use Word of Healing (elite), Dwayna’s Kiss, Orison of Healing, Healing Touch, Heal Other, Healing Breeze, Mend Ailment, and Rebirth.
My attributes are 15 healing, 13 Divine Favor, and 3 protection.
I use Rebirth, because most of the time I don’t resurrect, somebody else has already done it. Rebirth is good for when someone dies in a inconvenient spot. It is an expensive skill to use though, and I make sure that the group knows how much energy it uses.
Although Heal Party, and Heal Area have their uses I would go with more 5 energy heals. I would also bump up my Divine Favor a little.
Anyway, ultimately it is up to you on how you want to play your character. So good luck, and enjoy.
