AA bug.

Hi so far the game was running smothly with 4xAA and 8xAF but after the recent update, whenever I activate AA (doesn't matter how high or low I set it). I have the left side and top side of the display flash just at the edge of the screen.

I've checked temps of the card and there perfectly fine and it only does this with GW

My specs are :
A64 3500+
2GB Ram
XFX 6800GT 256mb
X-Fi Fatality card
Asus A8V-Deluxe motherboard
Sofware has been the same for the past few months including drivers.

Does anyone have any clue how I could sort this?

It works great on my ATi card, so I bet it is due to your Geforce drivers

It smoothes out all those sharp edges. Play with the settings sometime while getting a close-up of your character, and you'll notice how the edges become less jagged.

agreed. I have an ATI and it works just fine, I have heard of people using geforce having issues with it.

Geforce 7800GT, about one month old drivers, AMD x2 processor, 1GB RAM: no graphics issues, all AA modes work fine. I do have an issue that GW occasionally crashes when I close it, apparently because of a conflict with the F-secure firewall.

The last 2-3 ForceWare have had issues with quality and have been causing issues in some games, GW tho has suffered from AA issues and Multi-texturing failures.

Turn it on then go look at a close up of any character you will be surprised how "smooth" the sides of them are with AA on. However, if it is really slowing down your system then turn it off.

I also will say my ATI X800XL works perfect with 4xAA on at 1600x1200 settings. The only problems I ever have wit the game is the occasional lag...however that is a different animal all together.

Try lowering your Resolution.

Lag has nothing to do with resolution Josh mate, as with Old Dood this PC has an AGP version of the X800XL and it works great with 4xAA at 1600x1200. Now I know Old Dood has a very nice PC(shame it's a DELL-joke) so Dood's problem will most probably be server related on the guildwars side.

EDIT - Correal nice PC mate, have you tried different driver versions, I had the exact same card in the same board as you, never had any problems though.

Have the same problem, just gone from ati which had no AA problem to a 6800gt which now gives this aa problem, turn aa down or off to help solve it.

I thought it makes your Graphics Card have to power your graphics more as your using a bigger resolution or something to make it lag?

Yes this sounds like a driver issue..not a GuildWars issue....unless GuildWars/A-Net hasn't programed in all the drivers.

Thanks Cannonfodder. You are right...it is not a resolution problem for AA. It "could" be a connection problem however, I have a 6mbs cable connection. So this is a GuildWars problem for me when I get the goofy lags. My poor abused Dell (No one likes my Dell...) is set up pretty darn near perfect as it can be. I also have 4Gbs of ram on the darn thing. There should be no lag whats so ever. Now last night I played the Fire Island missions and it ran perfectly...no lag...no teleporting lag.

You are right kind of, having a higher resolution will slow down your pc, but it all depends on your specific hardware. If you have a Geforce4 MX..... you will struggle to play at higher resolutions, But as the Old Dood and myself use a X800XL these have no problem at that resolution.

So yes Josh mate, you do have a valid point, but it does depend on your graphics hardware and what it's capabilities are.

EDIT- Sorry for the Dell bashing, I know your problem mate 4gig of ram is too much(give 1 or 2 gig please), thats what I meant with your problem, guildwars server is giving you problems, but it happens over here in blighty sometimes

I should add I have enough CPU & GPU to run at a higher resolution then 1600x1200. That is my UltraSharp's max resolution (Yes it is a Dell as well..hehe). So if I hade the 2405FPW 24" UltraSharp I could run at 1920x1200.

I just checked on the price of the 2405FPW and it is on sale for $879.20. That is a great deal for that monitor.

Actually, people often confuse lag with a computer slowdown. Lag has nothing to do with computer power but with your internet 'power'/ISP.
Ping is the time it takes for the computer to respond to the internet. Lag is high ping. Using the inverse theorem you can infer that lag = High ping.

Back on topic.
I almost have the same specs except I use an ATI .
Guild wars supports ATI XD.

Check your drivers. Make sure they are up to date.
If you think it's a driver problem, roll the driver back using Window's Driver Roll Back. It's pretty useful.

ATI has a new Graphics card line up featuring the X1000 series. Get one of them and your computer 'next gen'

Good luck buddy.
