So, after this patch, here are my numbers from the try this morning to get furs from charr hides:

22 hides

4 furs

(that's less than 7:1 --- 6.5:1 actually). MUCH better than the 12:1 reported pre-patch.

Should come down in price too, finally as well.

There's a collector which turns 4 char hides into 1 fur. Takes some of the luck out of it, and you don't have to pay for the salvage kits.

Where is that collector?

Are they near Ascalon?

Thanks,

I went through 9 charges of my Expert salvage kit today trying to get Fur squares from Char hides and got 0. I don't have the gold to waste on that kind of failure rate. Now, if there is an NPC that will convert them to Fur squares it would be very handy to have that information posted in this thread hint hint....Shagsbeard

Guess it's still random... but I can assure you that IF there was a merchant who could do this, the DEVs would not have had to adjust the odds down. Would they?

No, I am not saying the NPC lies ...

But yeah... you tell us where a vendor will exchange charr hides for fur and when we verify it, I will come back to this post and apologize. Aside from that...

No.

Get ready to appologize then, because the last name of the collector I believe is Sedgewick near Old Ascalon. A number of people have reported this now... me thinks appology will ensue shortly...

The collector is near the merchant area in Ascalon City after searing, her name is Calissa Sedgwick [Collector] and she is next the merchant Lauren. I would take a screenshot but I'm at work...

Someone owes someone an apology.

I just verified, the Collector that used to offer a belt pouch for 3 Fetid Carapaces, now offers Fur Squares or Belt pouches for Charr Hides.

Nice find.

By "adjust the odds down" I assume you mean the odds of salvaging fur from hides because there would be no odds if using a collector. Anyway, these are the patch notes from www.guildwars.com . They mention nothing of changing any odds. They simply state that they made them less scarce. That could be accomplished any number of ways, including by getting them from a collector.

Fixed problems which caused excessive scarcity of Fur Squares, Linen, and Silk.
You spent this by salvaging:
22 hides x 22 expert salvages x 16g per salvage = 352g
so, 352g + 22 hides = 4 fur squares
If using the collector that "doesn't" exist, you would have spent this:
20 hides x 0g = 5 fur squares

Can't you just salvage the Shaman Armor or whatever it's called into Fur Squares? I have 5 Fur Squares currently and I'm pretty sure they all came from the same item.

I was only aware of them comming from charr hides, but you may be correct. I can't imagine that you wouild be getting a better rate than 25% by salvaging anything though.

Oh, sorry!

I made a big mistake in my post; apparently I was creating tanned hide squares, which aren't a fur of any kind. Hopefully I didn't get anyone's hopes up; but never the less, the glitch is fixed.

Sneaky DEVs . Nothing better than a stealth fix... and a great one it is.

Yeah, I would have to say that this is really funny $h17....assume something is wrong just because you haven't seen it and even going as far as to call the guy a liar.

edit: PS...the downside is that you get nothing else for the salvages.....so 4 equals 1 result instead of 4 different results. Which is still a great trade off if you are looking for fur squares.

I was told that it's much easier to salvage fur from Centuar or Dolyak hides.

Jana made a statement which turned out to be wrong........ no big deal.

She said lies, not maliciously............. no big deal.

She apologized like she said she would once proven wrong....... BIG DEAL

Yet some folks here still like to kick her while she's down.........typical

The bottom line is this thread confirmed a salvage item surplus problem fix.
Now that is..........mission accomplished!!

Leave Jana alone. Everybody's wrong sometimes. Anyone who thinks that they are not are just.......well, wrong.

I think it was a big deal, and Jana did step up to try and fix it. IMHO there is a big difference between saying:

"Are you sure? Have you been to the merchant or just heard about it"

and calling someone a liar.

Shagsbeard was being nice, helping someone, answering their question and instead of a thanks he got called a liar it's hard to say that's "no big deal" Especially when these boards are full of people complaining that noone is answering their questions.

I'm just glad Jana got my joke, at least she didn't call me any names...

They must have just fixed it. heck, she would have been right a couple of days ago.

I never salvaged a single fur out of any charr hide I acquired (stacks of them) and it just cost me money. So I said screw it and just had armor crafted with scales for fire resistance instead of cold.

Next time, i'll try not to post too quick concerning the WELL posted (yeah right) changes they make -- stealth style

The patch notes are at www.guildwars.com . They said they made them less scarce. I don't see where the stealth comes from. The only thing stealthy is that they didn't specify how they fixed it. They obviously added a collector, but they may have also increased the drop rate of charr hides and the salvage rate of fur squares from those hides. If they had said "we increased the odds of salvaging fur from charr hides", then I would say it was a stealth fix.

Regardless, it's not a stealth NERF, so we'd be stupid to complain. As someone else said, they aren't as scarce now, and that's all that really matters. I don't mean to try to pick on you Jana, you're just throwing me off with the "stealth" thing.

It may be interesting to note that the higher level items give more results. For instance, I salvaged 4 furs from a single Losaru hide (in the desert). And that's common on the instance that I actually salvage furs.

Yeah but you got to consider where the losaru are located. There's no way a low lvl character is gonna have access to high lvl monster hides for a while. That collector is a big help.
