300 new Skills, how to get them
LifeInfusion
"300 new skills total, 90 of which are new elite skills"
I don't anticipate this to be a very easy 300 skill points. There ought to be a way to get exp fast other than checking when your country has the favor and then doing UW/FoW (basically all I do nowadays since completion of all missions; quests like orozar give roughly 5k exp NOT skill points).
I know farming gives lots of exp, but it is darn mindnumbing pressing the same skillset over and over (with no changing circumstances) and boring to me. And I don't play to be the richest, most bored person ingame...so...
Considering we only get one slot, and getting to Cantha means access to the As & Ri classes, skill points on existing characters will be an inevitable pain for those of us that play casually but want to have all classes' skills nonetheless.
Take for example someone with 4 PvE characters. Upon release of Guild Wars: Factions, you need 300 skills. Even if split evenly it is 75 skill points each. Even if you rotate characters, it will eventually become VERY boring to get those skill points.
There should be quests for skills or skill points.
*Just a thought on the way we are heading with a sudden influx of so many skills. This is not so much a suggestion, more of a discussion of how, at this point, people will get those 300 skills.

but you'll probably be able to get skills through quest rewards most of the time and it will probably be the same as now where u can get all the skills through quests except a realatively small amount of skills taht u have to buy and the elite skills.
Banebow
Well, 55 more missions means 55 more skill points, for each of those four characters. That is 220 skill points, then you have quests that will give you skills and not require skill points.
Plus, there is always faction

master_ranger_matt
ascending gives you a lot if you do it at lvl 20, you cycle your level like 4 times, plus the skill point for the mission. if you want pvp skills, then pvp a lot for the faction
saphir
hey, now I know what to do w/ the useless 235 skill pts on my monk =)
too bad i deleted my ele who had a worthless 100+ skill pts
i wish i could trade them in for snowman summoners or something!

Plus it's not as though you need all of them, such as if your an PvE Air Elementalist it wouldn't be that big a deal if you didn't have every new Earth elite. Of course if you want every skill you can't really start getting picky and choosy by saying what methods you'll refuse to use.
Racthoh
I know I'm grinding out the last 325k exp I need to have 300 skill points in reserve for when Chapter 2 comes out. 90 elites to cap though... that's gonna be time consuming to say the least.
I have heard that during this weekend of the 20th-22nd, you can use faction to unlock Assassin and Ritualist skills for your account. I've heard it from a few people, and maybe I saw it on here as well. I'm kinda tired at the moment of posting this.

300 skills, 150 for core classes (25x6), so that leave another 150 skills for ritualist and assasin.
So assuming each of them get 75 skills, each line get 1 or 2 elites, assuming 4 attribute lines; that is about 134k factions for all the normal skills, and 48k for 16 elites. Another 36k factions for all the rune (if they dont add new rune similar to vigor/absorbtion), while assasin weapon mods also need another 18k+ to unlock.
236k factions more or less will be needed to unlock everything for ritualist and assasin... I don't even have 200k factions from all my playing (got only around 140k total factions)... T-T
I hope good build idea hit me instantly when I look at the skill list.

90 old professions - elite skills (15 elites a prof)
==> 60.000 + 270.000 = 330.000 faction
This leaves:
75 ritualist skills
75 assassin skills
------
150 skills new professions
The assumption of 2 elites for each attribute is probably to conservative. Current professions have around 75 skills, and have 13-16 elites. Therefore 15 elites a profession is a better assumption.
120 new professions - normal skills
30 new professions - elite skills
==> 120.000 + 90.000 = 210.000 faction
Total Faction: 540.000 faction for skills
EDITING for runes...
minor 1000
major 1500
sup 2000
----------
4500 for each attribute.
x 8 attributes
Total faction: 36.000 faction for runes
I'll take the assumption regarding weaponmods, to lazy to find out.
weaponmods: 18.000 faction
So 594.000 faction for Chapter 2 if only playing pvp
And 264.000 for only the new professions if only playing pvp.
If one plays pve, this amount will probably drop considerably because of skillpoints, and hopefully skillquests.

I doubt our core classes are getting any new skills for jan 20-22, so that part I am not too worry about.

Interesting thought just hit me:
If the assassin and ritualist can access Chapter 1 content, will the skillquests from Chapter 1 give them skills?
And following for Chapter 2:
If the 'old' professions only have 10 normal skills, will there only be 10 max. skillquests in Chapter 2?

Character slots will remain at four. However, those with an existing PvP character slot are invited to create a new PvP character to try out the new professions: The Assassin or The Ritualist. You are also welcome to use one of the global access keys to create a second account, if you wish. How will I get Assassin or Ritualist skills during the Guild Wars: Factions Global Free-For-All PvP Weekend? You will start with a limited number of skills for the profession that you choose, and you will be able to acquire more skills through the unlocking process based on the gain of Faction during PvP gameplay. If I unlock Assassin or Ritualist skills during the Guild Wars: Factions Global Free-For-All PvP Weekend, will I be able to keep them? Yes, you will keep the Assassin and Ritualist skills that you unlock during the event. They will remain in your skill listing, but they will be inactive until you acquire the retail version of Guild Wars: Factions. On the other hand, the things you acquire on your normal retail account -- Faction Points, Fame, increases in Rank, Guild Wars Ladder ratings -- would remain on your account. |
Im almost half way for all the core classes; 69 of 150 left...

Well, as Anet said that each new chapter will have 2 new classes. While as some digging into their sentence, they might have suggested that buyer of only chapter 3 won't be able to use chapter 2 classes. So in that sense, you will not be able to get any assasin skills and ritualist skills from anywhere in chapter 1 nor chapter 3 (they probably can get core proffession skills).
The 2nd question's answer is probably up in the air. If chapter 2 got new quest for the same skills of chapter 1, it would defintely make it easier to obtain all skill unlock on a single pve character much easier.

I think Anet meant for new classes to create on the new chapter and have the same effect where you can unlock just about everything in PvE (or grind with faction) as it now.
As they add each chapter the game is going to get much longer but that is to please "this game is too short" people have been vocal about. Think how many hours a pure PvE can do with say three chapter(s) of adventures compared to Chapter 1 only. I am looking forward to taking me Ele on to a new land to face new challenges (and more after that is defeated).
About Chapter 3..4 I can see a Chapter 1 & 2 game bundle or a huge price drop on older chapters (maybe $20)

I unlock more skills playing PVP than PVE, so if you want to unlock skills faster then play PVP. PVE is the grinding game as it should be, what fun would the PVE game be if you got everything so easily? I think they have done an excellent job of making it if you like PVP you get skills a lot faster through faction farming (pvping basically and I get most of mine in the 4x4 random arena 10000 every couple of days unlocks a lot of skills). And the PVE game well skills come slower, yes, this is true, but, even there I have lots of skill points saved up for Factions. But, I play basically ONE character in PVE, I put all my time and effort into ONE character so it doesn't feel like an awful lot for me to gain or need skills anymore since I have all the ones I want for that ONE charcter. Now it's just a saving game so I can start perhaps an assassin/ritualist and have lots of skills I can buy once the game is released. Or if the changing of secondary class is not too far into the game I can rush to that, change my secondary to assassin or ritualist and then buy the skills that way also. It's going to be great either way, can't wait.

Wow it's not even out yet and people already working out how to get everything in one day... I can understand for PvP, but for PvE I think (I hope) they put an "ember light camp" skills guy right at the end of the expansion. I don't understand why people would want everything all at once right at the start (of the PvE game)

I believe that they will be giving out new quests in order to get these new skills and I read something about the skill trader coming back.
Daneish
Chapter One may see a price drop, since it only contains the "Core" classes, but then again, ANet charges no monthly fee to play their game, so $20-$50, it's really not a big deal.
Deathqueen
With no monthly fees it's definitely worth $50 bucks. How many offline games do you get as much fun out of over this long of a period of time. If I get bored of PVE I can jump into PVP and vice versa. I'm really glad they allow a PVP level 20 character you can either use a pre-made or custom made from things you've unlocked in PVE and/or PVP. I've played this longer than I ever did Diablo 2 and I really enjoyed Diablo 2, great game, but, this one gives me more options.
LifeInfusion
Why are you guys talking about money? This thread is not about money. Besides, 20-50 bucks a year (or more) is very little.

Woot grinding ftw! This will probably make the game like WoW in one more way
twicky_kid
There will be quest so we do not know what the quest rewards are going to be. Its no big deal. If you do gvg then you get tons of faction. In a 2 hours I hit the 10k faction cap easy.
LifeInfusion
How I see it, I want the skills on character NOT just unlocked.
That's how I have it now, all my skills are on pve characters, not faction gained.

If you have one character with all the skills, then it seems unlikely you would be worried about skill points, you would just go out and farm or do fissure/underworld runs.
LifeInfusion
Uh spread out, not on one :P

Racthoh, I know I said this already, but that's un-frikking-believeable! I guess I'll have to get those skillpoints the old fashioned way. i.e. pay to get ran to ascension, ascend, use skillpoints, repeat. Maybe even build up another 10k faction to unlock a whopping 10 skills come Ch2...
