Teach me about Mes Energy Drain/Capturing

I found the post about starting in Marhan's Grotto, following the path NE till you can turn SW, crossing a bridge, and HAY its Gambol Headrainer!

Except he wasn't there. Alright, I'll do it again! Nope, not there. I'll go again. I assume he likes ice fishing cause again, he wasn't there. There was some pinesoul there among one thousand three hundred and thirty-seven imps. This makes me quite the sad Mesmer IRL --> .

So now I'm here, pretty . I'll even add some extra ?s. ????

I also ran around Witman's Folly, and Skiik Hungrymind the Imp wasn't there.

I'm just now doing this, he wasn't there at first...well I tried again, nope, again, nope, again, there he was!

At the fourth try he was there so I guess he doesn't spawn there very often, anyway I died fighting against his minions but as I was dead and my henchmans were still fighting I saw him use energy drain, two times actually, so he definitely does have it and does use it.
