Meh, don't see any real need for it. Would rather have Anet spend their time on developing more useful things, like a way to replace people who've err7'd.

IMHO, use tools that are available out of game. Here are a few examples:

Use a forum with entitled space for officer discussions. Pretty easy to set up and it allows such discussions to occur with records as well as threading to keep people from being confused about the issues at hand. Your guild does have a forum doesn't it?

Use email aliases for discussions that can take place during a slower exchange of ideas. You still get the advantages of a record of the discussion. You do have email, right?

Use an IM system for faster chat - still allows you to capture the messages as a log, too. IM systems are free and many people have them running all the time.

Use voice chat and close the room for just the officers. No records, very fast, more than 8 spots available depending on your license. Your team does have voice chat, right?

/notsigned as asking ANet to provide tools that already have solutions elsewhere shows poor planning and organization and probably wouldn't be used properly.

Its good to discuss applications and guild activities among the core members of your guild, which are most likely officers, and it will probably help with the mangement of guilds in general, i.e. cape designs, hall choice, etc, made by senior officers. That also encourages normal members to be more active, to see what happening in officer chat.

In full favor.

I think this is a solid idea.
Would enable the leader and officers to communicate regarding guild topics without the interfearance of its members. Think of it as a way for the executive team to speak about guild topics that do not require the input of its members.

It is not that we are hiding information or talking about people behind their backs, its more so the discussion of running the guild and makeing decisions before we tell the members.

Ray & Blessed Winds - or maybe our guild has more than 8 officers, so we can't simply form a party; and likewise, members of my guild actually hangs out in the guild hall from time. We actually hang out together as guildmates sometime. I know, a bit unbelievable, but it's been known to happen. x_x So, just meeting in the guild hall and using local chat won't work, as anyone could pop in.

To those of you worried about abuse--don't you think the leader and officers in good guilds ALREADY talk about the other members? Either in whispers or small parties in game, or in voice chat or forums... we talk. It's how we decide who should be invited, who is doing a good job, and who should be reprimanded for not living up to the guild's code.

I think it's rather judgemental to say that asking for this channel shows poor planning and organization. My guild has guild-wide meetings as well as officer-meetings, as well as the officer-only forum on our boards. I don't think we have poor organization at all. This would just be a very useful in-game addition.

And, I don't know that we should have to look for solutions out of game for something so instrumental to the game. It's called GUILD Wars. We shouldn't have to look for too much Guild functionality out of the game that depends on Guilds to work. -_-

Any big guild has too many officers to manage into a party, plus, in general, the Guild hierarchy system and chat system could be improved.

16 officers, two teams of eight going in for a scrimmage, speak in All chat. There's your privacy.
Suppose you could bother doing that if there's something that needs to be discussed behind the backs of the members.

well it is a good idea

if it doesnt get implemented though, you can always do what my guild does and make an officers party in the GH and talk in team chat

Just what I need.Since my guild consist of me,myself and I.I really like to kick I out..) .It does make sense. The guilds I have been in there is to much chatter including alliance channel.Officers need to plan events and such without haveing 16 people jumping into the discussion.Afterwards you can get other guildies response.

's im officer in my guild and we do keep secret conversations in our forum about kicking members... that goes with being officer...

also officer stuff is about, helping out new members... making the rules for the guild, ,recruiting ppl, making alliances, discussing gvg tactics etc...

basickly officers make decisions about guild related stuff, while members while not being able to decide this can make propositions to officers which will then do the thinking, and thus guild members get some freedom in their builds but still have the sence... we know what we are doing, and gives a sence of security... not everyone wants to be a leader and sometimes life is much easyer if u dont have to think, officers will do that for u
(and while promoting ppl to officers, ,when we tell them about what responsibilities are for being one about 1/3 refuses this... even if we propose this to members who are officer "material" gathering guild parties etc

strong leadership requires that u have o doubts that u are righrt in the eyes of members and thus members can enjoy strickt but easy commadnds...

this makes the guild work... war friends [wf], my guild is one of the free guilds.. motto fun & fair && free will and still u propably have cn the name in announces about winning hoh (sorry we are ful atm and pure finnish)

and while our rank is not among the best... about 600-800 we can occasionally win rank 100-200 guilds but most of all as our motto says we have fun while doing it and dont take it too seriously....

i think officer chat would suit our guilds needs

i've been in games where i've been an officer in officer chat. its just a way to talk about people behind their backs. Not really useful. PM them, or go to your guild hall and talk to one another in team chat.

/unsigned as I think members would get the feeling that the officers are talking behind their backs..

If you want an all-officer talk, why not just use TS/Ventrilo?

I'd prefer customisable ranks and channels etc in guilds, not everyone does everything the same way.

face it ppl are talking behind ur backs officer chat or not... thats jst the way ppl are... and officers are supposed to...

i mean if u r the topic of weather officers kick u or not... well in this say they decide they will not ... how would u feel if u actually heard the talk... he is kindof annoying when... etc...

if they decide they will not kick u then they have jst decided that u are even with bad sides a good chap...
if u heard it then u will think well they hate me... i might aswell leave...

if its about your good and bad sides and ppl decide hte good outweight the bad... so they will talk to you jst as before... u will be ignorant about the fact that ur mistakes have jst been viewed and deemed not too bad to kick evceryone is happy

and believe me ur mistakes and behaviour will be evaluated by officers. THAT IS THEIR JOB

and yes at least for my guild we often do discuss stuff on ts and have password protected channel jst for officers, also our forum holds a section designated for officers only ... so far we have heard no complains about us being in that room even if ppl c us in there... our alliance has 6 guilds which all have similar chatrooms jst for officers and the same thing there, not a word of complain...

if u have problems with this... apply for officer or change ur guild

Wow....this is very depressing. I didnt know SO many people were going to come up with EVERY solution possible just NOT to have a simple implant from ANet that would fix it so easily...

Some of you have really lowered my faith in mankind.

I think it would be a good idea to have officer chat. it would mean guild leaders could easily get the officers to understand what happening without having to whisp each one. This would make running a guild a bit easier.
It would also be easy to impliment.

Also if officers are going to talk behind the members backs, they will use whisp to do it anyway.
