Good day everyone
first of all hi, I'm new to the forums.
which is part of the reason why I'm posting this question here.
couldn't find another adequate place, sorry.
so my question is this:
recently, while observing a few guild battles I couldn't help but notice that most of the rangers I watched were using composite bows.
Is there a special reason for this? anything I missed about the composite bow? it certainly can't be the looks...
well, thanks for taking the time to read this
it's probably coincidence anyway
Use of Composite Bows

trust me man. its the looks
i heard that composite bows almost always hit their target, which would be great for an interuppter ranger.

Composite bows have the lowest arc, i.e the flight of the arrows is almost flat.
This makes them harder to dodge, and also the fastest to reach the target.
the only other way to achieve this with a bow is to use read the wind / favourable winds.
Thats why interrupters use them

The difference between bows
Weapon Refire Rate Range Flight Time Arc Size
Longbow 2.4 seconds 100' 0.75 seconds Normal
Storm Bow 2.4 seconds 100' 0.75 seconds
Flatbow 2.0 seconds 100' 1.00 seconds High
Horn Bow 2.7 seconds 80' 0.75 seconds Normal
Ivory Bow 2.7 seconds 80' 0.75 seconds
Shadow Bow 2.7 seconds 80' 0.75 seconds
Composite Bow 2.4 seconds 80' 0.50 seconds Low
Dead Bow 2.4 seconds 80' 0.50 seconds
Eternal Bow 2.4 seconds 80' 0.50 seconds
Recurve Bow 2.4 seconds 80' 0.50 seconds
Half Moon 2.0 seconds 60' 0.65 seconds
Short Bow 2.0 seconds 60' 0.65 seconds Normal
(Flight Time is for a target 60' away)

So as you can see the composite bow has a low arc and has a decent range making it the optimal bow for rangers. But personally i would get a composite bow, longbow/flatbow, and a half-moon/ shortbow for a ranger not just one bow.

heh, my ranger has a zealous comp and half moon, a poisoners long and a vamp short. I rarely switch off the comp unless things are up close and personal. The vamp and poisoners are for drawing and special builds.

I don't understand why people hate on the Horns so much... I have an Ivory bow, and I don't find it any worse then my flatbow or my half-moon. I use it for my ranger spike build, it works great, the 10% Armor penetration really helps. And even though it fires .3 of a second slower (I don't find that to be of any real consequence, because I'm a Tiger's user) and with my stance bow, the given armor penetration, and penetrating shot, I do more damage per shot, even though I hit slightly slower. Eh, I could just be ranting, so I'll be quiet and say go with a comp bow, even though I don't find them particular eye-candy material. ^_^

10% AP isn't really adding that much dmg per hit tbh...
i used to play as a flag runner in my old guild when we did GvG's... since my main job is to kill the opposing flag runner (a speed buffed player) i need my flight time as low as possible to ensure my arrows hit... hence why so many rangers in GvG's go with a comp, recurve, dead or eternal

that's the problem...they're just hideous. don't even get me started with recurve bows
