A mini-game/gambling city
Saox
Now, before we go on, let me just point out the fact that this is my first actual time posting anything, so if this idea has come up before, then I apologize.
Anyhow, as much as I love the pvp in Guild wars, there comes a time when you just seem to feel the same thing over and over again. I myself don't have the patience to go through pve for a second round, and forming a party for hoh is never fun. Of course some of you may [I]love[I] playing in pvp games, and some of you probably love to farm and gain more money. But I've already found myself 15k armor which I am happy with. I've already pvped to my hearts content. So what is there to do once you're pretty much tired with the fighting aspects of the game, and want to try something new?
Instead of leaving the game, or wandering around aimlessly, why not have something to do with friends that doesn't involve leaving town and taking down monsters, or going into Guild versus guild battles, yelling at eachother over teamspeak. Why not just have a town to go to where you can play random games of chess or checkers? Hell, Black Jack or Texas Hold ' Em.
My idea is, have a town dedicated to mini-games. Of course you couldn't take the exact games and bring them over, but Arena Net could most likely take certain aspects of the rules, tweak them, change the overall name, and allow us players to use them.
In an addition to this, why not make an "optional," part of the game where you can gamble? This way, players could stake a certain amount of money, and whoever wins would gain the prize. For example, you and a friend decided to sit down and play...I don't know, a game of Loker (poker). Before you start the match, you are given the option to bet money. You both accept. Then, one player puts up a certain amount of money. The opposing player can either accept this bet, decline, or raise the money price and send the offer back to the other player. I hope that made sense.
Of course, there would be more to it than just starting up a game, but I don't feel that it is necessary to go in-depth on a simple idea. Anyhow, I am not saying this is something that needs to be, or should be done. This is just an idea that I thought I would share with a small part of the community.
Thank you for taking the time to read. Comment on this if you like.
EDIT: Sorry, somehow two of the same threads came up. Is there a way in which I can delete one of them?

A gambling city would be awesome, could be an outpost in the desert called vegas.
Things like betting on high lvl GvG games would be fun, good way to get cash, also the classic card games like poker and blackjack.
Could gamble for fame aswel ^^

Well...I don't know if gambling on fame would work :\ But yea, it's an idea that I've been thinking on for quite some time...
Quick question though? Is there a way to delete one of your own thread topics? I somehow made two appear after submit once :\

I'm all for some GW-themed mini-games.. But uhm... every game i've played that has had some form of gambling has really been a kick to the crotch for the economy.

I like the idea of mini-games. I lately have been getting a little bored with pve/pvp. It would be nice to have some extra little things to do, while not farming, or doing GvG.
The only problem would be the gambling. I have heard somwhere that some states have certain laws against online gambling. Or atleast thats what some one told me. And I also have heard that A-net is against gambling. That is why you can't do a dice roll in town anymore. Now all that is just stuff I have heard, it could be completely wrong.

We can already watch famous/bigshot guilds and teams in Hall of Heroes, right? Why not be able to bet on them? Have an NPC bookie set odds so people can gamble.
Maybe a side game or mini game like the wintersday snowball fight? An Ascalonian version of football designed along the same lines would be kinda fun.
Or maybe baseball.
A simple, game-operated version of blackjack wouldn't be hard to implement.
Hmmm... I guess you could put together a simple chess program and theme it to ascalon or kryta.
With the asian-themed chapter two coming out, you could implement a version of Go.
Or Mah Jong. I don't understand the game one bit, but it seems to be popular in some circles.
Pachinco is popular in some areas, and easy to rig up with medeival tech.
An NPC operated shell game would be easy to do too. Hell, if they could do it on the original Nintendo (Simpsons:Bart versus the world minigame), it can't be that hard.
You could remodel Henge of Denravi or Amnoon Oasis (The two least-used cities) to include this and boost their traffic, leaving the other cities free from excess traffic (Drok's and Ascalon especially get WAY too much traffic.)
As for gambling issues, it's not really gambling in the legal sense as you don't gain any monetary profit from it, any more than playing poker on Yahoo! Games. So it's not gambling as far as the law is concerned.

I posted a similar thread last week but got very little responce.
My ideas was to have games at the guild halls.
We (my guildies ) sometimes spend an hour at the hall waiting for gvg or just standing around chating about gvg builds, or just chatting.
Why not have pin ball machines, mini pac man games, gambling, shooting games, whatever to help us pass the time.
Would love to draw an imaginary beer from an imaginary cooler and play imaginary darts with my guildies.

Or even pvp sparring, or little pve bits available there if they didn't want to get too far afield. I agree tho a lot of time spent in the hall when I was GvGing was spent hanging around doing a lot of nothing.
Vilaptca
There used to be gambling with the /roll emote. But they removed the ability to use it in towns because of this.

Oh, thought of another thing to add. You see a lot of piers around kryta, right? And you ocasionally see large fish in the waters on the coast. Why not a fishing minigame? Just for the sportsmen among us? I saw a free game called Gaia Online today, and they had a flash-based fishing game. If they can do it, why not Anet? Award scales and bones depending on the size of the fish, with contests for biggest and fastest catches.

Hmmm not bad of a idea

Face it, gambling will not happen. And I'm not just saying that due to possible legality issues.. But gambling messes up economies. Gold will all of a sudden be abundant for people who are just playing the slots/gambling games, and therefore will have all of this money which they were rewarded for not even playing the actual game. Whereas the people playing the actual game won't be near as rich.
If you want to gamble online, just check out one of those online poker sites, you can even play it for free. There is no possible economic issues with online poker sites, but since you're trying to get this into Guild Wars, just let me say it once more. IT WILL NOT HAPPEN.
