Thoughts on Guild Wars: Factions
Many greetings, everyone. I am making this thread so gamers like myself can express their feelings about the new upcoming Guild Wars game, Guild Wars: Factions, and also possible learn a bit more about the people and their Guild Wars experience.
What do you expect Factions to be like?
What are you excited about in the upcoming new Guild Wars game?
Any thing you aren't hoping for?
--First, a bit about me as a Guild Wars gamer:
Started in summer, however computer was too slow to play Roleplaying, so I played PVP for months. I was able to speed my computer up a bit, so I played Pre-Searing and know anything there is to know in pre-searing. However, now that I am familiar with just about every profession and their skills, I deleted my first characters and am now planning to make a R/W/N. (saying necromancer because thats the first class i want to raise when I Ascend.)
--My feelings about Guild Wars: Factions
At first, I wasn't too excited about things being changed into a more, Oriental style, including the professions, skills, and new lands. But then I got on Guild Wars today. The new Oriental music is inspiring to an 'adventurer' like myself, and I felt as if my time had finally come to go on a journey that would change my life. Remembering things would be a bit more Oriental, a smile grew on my face. Two words came into my mind: Respect, and Honor. Yes, there is much of that in the Oriental world, and I am hoping this new sense of adventure will bring out the honor in us all, and the ability to respect others and be respected.
I am looking very forward to Guild Wars: Factions. A whole new world is out there, and I am anxious to explore and do what is right. New abilities to discover, new friends to meet, it's going to be wonderful.
Honor and Respect, the two things I am hoping to improve in this new land.

I am very curious to see what they are doing to negate the need to run.

Does anyone know if the stuff that is going on at Tombs is going to be this way for awhile or if it is just for the weekend? I really want to get my hands on the new green axe.
As for Factions, I am looking forward to more content and classes as I am burnt out on Guild Wars currently. But this is looking to light the fire again.

I hope factions will become a collection of player who share common interests ideas. Somehow there has to arise a kind of comunity among the guild wars players. I often stand amazed at the low quality of chatter in the cities/outposts. Things like "u suck" with a response of "u sucks your mother" are as common as salvaging major runes out of golden armor.
If factions can give people the oportunity to recognize simularities among eachother and share interests on a higher level then now i'll be satisfied.
(btw I don't see this happening :P)

sweet new intro screen, sweet new style. i like it

I personally hate the entry screen it is to bland and boring. Im sure it is just temporary though. But i also think the new expansion looks very promising. I can not wait to see what dual wielding with the assassain plays a part in the game. Factions sound like a very interesting factor for Guild Wars, letting you choose who's faction to be in. I cannot wait to see how all these will play out in the over all game.

Here's what I think.
With basically no fanfare, no promises, no nothing, we were given another endgame PvE challenge today. As well, the PvP practice area for the most part has surpassed all expectations. I was playing it...and all I was getting was OMG this is great.
As well, graphically, they keep on topping themselves. I was really impressed with Sorrow's Furnace. There was so many areas..the entrance itself, the ice section, the gears everywhere, that looked so interesting.
But the new Tombs entrance? My god. god...
That is just spectacular. It most certainly beats running up some crummy stairs....the normal HoH stages looked dull after that
So what about Factions? I'm sold on it. I was when I heard how many new skills there were for existing classes..and especially reading them, I knew that their game designers were on the ball, and not just repeating skills, but thinking outside the box.
But this update is simply amazing. If this is what we can expect for the entire long-term franchise, sign me up for everything.

-What do you expect Factions to be like?
It's difficult to say what I expect it to be like - but based on today's updates I can't see how they could possibly release something I'm not going to like. My major gripes of late were the lack of something to do when UW/FoW are closed for redecorating and the new tombs area does everything I wanted - as I've read somewhere else on the forum it's almost like a dream come true* - a challenge, worthwhile reward at end and not soloable by wannabe quake players. And quite amazingly, people were even asking for mesmers in the new tombs an hour ago so this tells me anet are on the case of everything I really wanted to see them care about for pve in factions, and I can hardly wait to explore a new continent.
I'd hope the factions plot is more satisfying. I did find guildwars plot somewhat lacking in a number of ways that aren't worth going into. Suffice to say it would be nice if we can "win" without forgetting who we're saving along the way.
-Any thing you aren't hoping for?
More of the same old in-game gw community, but we can all laugh at how ridiculously low the possibility of not having it actually is. But maybe we'll get a couple of months grace.
*possibility for this opinion to be revised in time as update-euphoria fades

The game isn't being changed into an Oriental setting. Chapter 1 will stay as it is. Lion's Arch won't magically re-appear reminiscent of feudal Japan. We are exploring a new land, and just like in the real world, there are different cultures in different lands. An Oriental setting is being included in the game. I like it because mixing in different cultures and scenery is a great way to encourage exploration. How would exploring pve in Factions be any different than exploring pve in Prophecies if it was all the same?

Anyway what I fail to understand is what's wrong if the game were to be changed take on an oriental cultural context?
I have to say the new login screen with the new theme is very impressive.. it is also quite an elegant way to include more character slots in the future

Ok..here's my thoughts on the 2 new professions
Assassins: Pushes your weapon damage beyond limitation.
Ritualist: A hybrid by itself, I can't believe ArenaNet can't come up with something better
