Language issue on Euro servers
Tetris L
This may seem like a minor issue to Americans, but it's really getting a major annoyance to me:
The European servers are like Babylon after they built the tower. The local chat is one big f***in' MESS due to the various languages all being spoken in one place simoultanously. English, French, German, Dutch, Spanish, Italian, ... It's damn hard to find people for a party that actually understand what you're trying to tell them.
It would only require a minor change to solve this problem: Name the districs with a language (at least the 5 most common languages in Europe) and seed people in a district according to the language that they picked for their GUI.

ahahah so true!! Being italian (though living in Asia) I once switched to Euro servers and Babylon was the first thing that came to my mind.
You have these kids asking questions in french to people who speak something else. It's ridiculous, just looking at the chat window to find someone who speaks your language is a frustrating thing.

I think this is being addressed as I type this. Im pretty sure on the European servers you will now see UK District so and so. So now you limeys can escape the real world of high petrol prices and bad cuisine together!

This is only a cheap solution to the issue, since guilds are made of people from all over Europe. A more idea solution, which most games have is to have a universal language converter.
Now such a thing can be purchased from another company and implmented in GW, it would then allow people to speak to each other no matter where they come from.

I think the idea of naming is good. But only "naming" the districts, not make them the only option for each country. In the way the International District works, you CAN choose to play in your country's district (for the language easyness) or you CAN choose to play in another.
I think its a good idea, since its been almost dozen of times that I've been switching districts until I found some spanish or english speakers (I can speak both... almost, my english is poor but at least I understand the most part).
Play in a server with almost everyone speaking finnish, german or french and not understanding a word is a pain to get your party...

Also ... please note that I asked to name the districts after languages, not countries. That's a difference.

The change I noticed it went from District 1 to American District 1. I dont know if there is a Canadien Disrict 1, a Mexican District 1.......

I think they have 3 server locations: America, Europe and Asia (Korea). The districst are named after these. But except for the server location the districst are just numbered, not named.

I'm talking about professional transalators available, the one we use at work allows us to convert our Knowlegde base into many different languages since its a multi-language helpdesk. Went it was first use there was inital teething issues which bootled down to use not having the right grammar files for the software.
So more positive, less moaning.

Moaning? *shrug* I'd gladly believe what you say, but I have yet to see an automatic translator that translates English into German (my mother tongue) or vice versa without completely twisting the context meaning.

personally i love the multilanguage districts.
It is like a small language training - funny to see jokes in a language i have been teached some years ago. (Reminds me to plan holiday in france this year)
Please dont divide europe by putting languages in asylums !

I read somewhere that the servers were supposed to put people into districts depending on their language settings, as well as who is one their friend lists and in their guild. It might actually be working, back when I still used the European world there was a tendency of everybody talking German, or Everybody talking French, or even everybody talking Swedish (even though my setiing was English). Rarely it was a babylon, one language was always dominating.
Today I just use the American world. Vere occationally I see someone talking Spanish or Portuguese.

Alright, I'm a bit late on the uptake but here's my problem, and as of yet no one else has mentioned it. I'm an American, but I live and work in Korea. Koreans LOVE this game, and it's great to see them in the international districts where I hang out, but my version of Guild Wars doesn't even allow me to type in Hangeul. For anyone that has a general idea -- you can't type Korean in the roman alphabet. I can't even READ Korean written in the roman alphabet. So here are all these people I can evesdrop on, but can't talk or party with, because they may not understand me. I reaaaaally wish there was a way around this. It's kind of stupid that I can turn my WHOLE game into Korean, but still have to type in English.

Exactly what I was asking for. Thanks, ArenaNet.

For players on the European servers, there will be different districts for each supported language: English, French, German, Italian, and Spanish. Players will be placed by default into the district that matches their current language preference, but they will still be able to travel to any available district. |

I had 5 times that allowed me to switch the servers between Europe and America. After a while i though i will stay on Europe Server, because the time different were a problem. Now im on an American server, and will stay here, because i can go to work when i want ;D I have still problems with the language in Teamspeak, (good enough that my guild understand me ;>) but in chat with others it works well.
And Americans better in PvP.... *duck*

Smoky Mc Pot: You connect to the American server from Germany?? Never had any serious lag problems?
Smoky Mc Pot
Hmmm, i dont know why, but i had never lag problems. im still playing my little rounds on the american ground without any problems. only my 1.2GHz machine "lagging" sometimes ;>

They haven't changed it yet if they are changing it - I checked last night and it's still just euro districts.
