Yep. I soloed the Droknar run. As a RANGER
dahlen
First of all: It can be done without a bloody tank with Superior Vigor and Absorption!
A few days ago, I came up with the idea of doing the Droknar Run with my ranger, due to my 15k set of Frostbound armor. Since I've done it a lot of times with my Warrior, I took the bases from that build.
The build is a R/W build.
My armor:
Frostbound is the key...
Mask:
Armor 70
Traveler's Mask
Wilderness Survival +1
+30 Armor against elemental attacks
Chest:
Armor 70
Frostbound Vest of Major Vigor
Health +41
+30 armor against elemental attacks
+15 armor against cold attacks
Gloves:
Armor 70
Frostbound Gloves of Minor Wilderness Survival
Wilderness Survival +1
+30 armor against elemental attacks
+15 armor against cold attacks
Leggins
Armor 70
Frostbound Leggins
+30 armor against elemental attacks
+15 armor against cold attacks
Boots:
Armor 70
Frostbound Boots of Minor Expertise
Expertise +1
+30 armor against elemental attacks
+15 armor against cold attacks
Shield
Armor 16
Crimson Carapace Shield
+45 hp in a stance
Received Damage -2 while in a stance
While Doing the run, I used a +25hp axe.
Stats:
Tactics: 12
Expertise: 10
Wilderness Survival: 11
My skills came to be:
Ballanced Stance - Storm Chaser - Charge! (E) - Dodge - Whirling Defence - Troll Unguent - Healing Signet - Watch Yourself!
I alternated Chaser, Charge and Dodge. Dodge is very good due to the long recharge time of the Chaser. You also move 33% faster. While using Dodge as the last run skill, the others will be recharged when it ends.
When facing knockdowns like the bloody Worms or Gigants, I simply combine BS + Charge. The gigants in Snake Dance are really hard to master, due to the long recharge time of BS. When it ends, combine Charge and Whirling instead. Whirling allows you to block 75% of the attacks.
Use Troll Unguent everytime you are about to run past a group, because it gives you a health generation of +8. Use it wisely. It's very important. Healing Signet is also a key, since it gives you 130hp hp when used.
The first part is all about spawns. Avoid the imps and save Charge and Ballanced Stance until the first worm spawns. Then combine them, and go. Once the worm is gone, it's smooth sailing. Regenerate, and go on.
When you come to the Trolls in the cave. Alternate all the three running skills and get as close as you can to the grawl patrol. When the first Worm spawns, Combine BS + Charge as usual. Go on....
When you know how the system works, you can use your imagination.
Some might experience the Avicaras hard, after Camp Rankor. Use spam troll unguent and run skills, regen... Then you're there.
Am I the first ranger ever doing this?
I wish I did a movie on this... It will be my future project.
And yes. This was difficult as hell to acheive. Don't blame me if it doesn't work for you.
Cheers!

Gratz on working out a way to run to the forge as not many rangers can do this.
No, I know of others who can do the run.

Now see if you can make it without any warrior skills, I think balanced stance is almost a must though, o well.

Very nice

Awesome, thanks for sharing and congrats on your achievement!! Two thumbs up
schutz
well its near enough the same as warrior build so its not really running it as a ranger, as without charge+balanced stance you cant do anything
Rahl
I want to do this on my Monk
Banebow
Congrats on finishing that run, just one question.
Isn't frostbound +15 versus cold attacks, rather than +10? Did I miss an update that changed that?

Former Ruling
Also this depends ALOT on having the Best Spawns possible.
Sometimes you CANT ignore the Golems or Ice Imps. And if you get hexed - GG.

Banebow, as far as I remember Frostbound was always +15 vs. Water/Ice attacks.

It would all depend on spawn. As stated, Ice Golem+Ice Imp=GG. Done very nearly on my Ranger, without Frostbound. I always knew it could be done, congratulations.

Oh yeah. Big blooper from me. The Frostbound is actually +15 armor vs cold attacks.
Sorry. *edited*

I did that once, after many deaths. its not easy for a ranger, nice job

Drop the heal sig for serpents quickness. Shorter recharge times on the run skills.
Have also seen a ranger build using natures ritual(I think that's the sprit). Drop it near the hex heavy areas. Often get though without any hexes cast on you.

I'd like to see a mesmer do the run.

Thank dahlen ive always wanted to run droknars with my ranger and your build has let me do that.Great build ive done it 2 out of 2 times now but watch yourself was very rarely used. The hardest part of the run is doing the tundra giants as you gota wait for balanced to recharge at each group.
