Is it possible to charm a black bear in pre-searing anymore?

Ive now been trying for a while.

I have gotten help from a mesmer with imagined burden, and a warrior with Hammer Bash, and nothing works.

The one time that i was only 3 seconds away from charming one was when it was just attacking the warrior and didnt do anything until i was 3 seconds away from charming it...GRRRR

Does a higher level in Beast Mastery help at all?

You can charm bears in Post-Searing, though, after endlessly many people that have tried, it's 99% sure you can't get a bear in Pre-Searing. If you want a bear in Pre-Searing, give up, if you want a bear in Post-Searing, go to Beacon's Perch, and enter Lornar's Pass, walk around a bit, and you'll see a couple of bears wondering around.

I want that rabbit in pre that sits up on the hillside. It could be my rabbit from hell. I'm not sure what its doing up there, just sits there, doesn't move. Doesn't even appear like a Moa bird does.

I got a fricken huge bear from outside Droknar though, he's lv18 now.

You used to be able to get bears in pre, but now they have that annoying break charm skill. I dunno if this would work but if you had Me/R with a lot of points in fast casting and had an me/e with some interrupts and a aoe spell you could be in with a slim chance. Also if the elementalist casts an aoe on it the bear might waste some time running away - though I'm not sure if that happens in pre.

Well, that may work....and its probably true that 99% of the time, you cant charm a bear.

But I was seriously sooooo close. I was like 2 seconds away and if the warrior had just KDed him that second i would have gotten him.

Not true. You can charm a bear in pre-searing. I know because I've done it. I had help from a Mo/Me. We set up so that I cast Charm from as far away as possible, the monk used bane signet, ran in front of the bear, used imagined burden, and it gave me enough time to complete the charm. I dont know if there is another way, but it's easiest to use the environment to your advantage. Try using the trees and fences as temporary blockers.

It was probably about a month and a half ago, when i made my ranger. I never took a ss because I didnt think it was that amazing. The Mo/Me helping me said he's done it before so I didnt think much of it. I almost want to make another ranger and take a SS just so show that its possible. It dosent work everytime, you have to get lucky. The bear has to attack the other guy, then cast the charm, the bear will go after you as soon as you begin the cast. As soon as that happens, bane sig, imagined burden, and hope that the tree or fence in the way will be enough.

I think they changed it recently to make them totally imossible to charm. I remember back in the months after the game came out you could actually charm them if you had either two rangers attempting charm animal, or a warrior or someone else to distract the bear at first. But that apparently doesn't work anymore, seeing as the skill breaker or whatever the bears used is now much better.

The last I checked the bear will break any charm, whether or not someone else is attacking it. The cast time of Charm Break is instant as well, so there is no more knocking the bear down to interrupt it as I once heard was possible. As far as I'm aware, the only method that hasn't been proven to be a farce is the one MrGuru mentioned. That, of course, is to be outside the bear's range while charming. The problem is you must start the charm inside its range, so in order to be outside during the rest of the cast requires a delicate and painstaking process of the bear chasing someone past you, you hitting charm at the last possible second, and then the other person keeping the bear from returning to range for the duration of the cast.

If you ask me, its absolutely not worth it. All pets are created equal... except for the bear. It's the odd one out in the bunch, being significantly weaker than every other critter in the game.

Actually, the Spider does piercing as well, but those two are the only ones with piercing. All other pets have slashing damage, and alas, no pet has blunt damage.

@ Nine Breaker. Not true, warthog has slashing damage.

And on topic. Read the break charm discription. I don't think Break Charm has a range, it interupts every Charm Animal currently casting on the bear and it can be cast at all times, unless it's casting his spell, Brutal Mauling, or when he's knocked down. Break Charm has both a 0 second cast and recharge time.
