More use for Faction Points
actionjack
So I was playing few PvP this weekend, which make me think about its reward, the Faction points. Not sure if there is a post about it before, but Faction point, since they are like the Exp and Gold of PvP, there should be more use to them (more things you can "buy" with them). Some ideas include:
- Dyes and Unlock Color
- Unlock differnt Pets.
- Unlock more Templet Builds
- Unlock more PvP Weapons that have more differnt stats and skins.
- Unlock more Armor Skins (able to wear the 15k or even the underworld set.... if you have lots points....)
- Unlock Templet Sheets* (see below)
- Convert to Gold (maybe like a 1.5:1 ration.. meaning 3 faction point for 2 gold....)
- Convert to Exp
- Use it to buy Novelity Arena only items (1 time use or hats) such as:
Gladiator's Drink, Champion's Crown (a leaf crown), Winner's Sash, Cheering Crowd (when use, you hear the cheer of crowds), Booing Crowd, Fireworks, Thumbs Up (when use, have a aura of thumps up for few seconds), Thumbs Down, and a "Whoop Ass" emote... (Some will be good for "teasing" those loosers on the ground... )
*Templet sheets- an idea for making easier build for PvP characters. You buy an item call Templet Sheets (or some better name), make up your skills, use the item, which will bring up a window box that ask you to name the Build, and save the build with the primary and 2ndary proff and its skills and attribute distribution (but still need to set up the equipment and look your self). So the next time you make a PvP character, you can just use this customize build.
Thats about what I have for now.. any more ideas?

I DEFINATELY think you should be able to trade in faction for gold. It takes more skill to PvP than it does to farm, why the hell shouldn't we be able to get gold from it if that's what we choose?
Zobi
Some of the ideas listed are afirly good ideas, but I totally disagree with being able to unlock 15 armours.
Many RPG players save up for an awful long time, having to farm, (which is extremely monotonous), to get these armours. IMO it is a PvE reward.
I think unlocking dyes would be a better way to stop PvP characters all looking the same.
I also really like the idea of unlocking different animals, as seeing nothing but wolves in PvP gets extremely boring after a while. I do not think they should have access to the spider, however, as that is a UW reward.
Just my 2 pennies worth.

not just no but hell no on a pvpgrindmonkey getting top PVE items through pvp.
FACTION IS AN UNLOCKING TOOL NOT A REWARD
it is a super fast targeted unlock for pvp.
you can get your superior vigor AND your superior absorption runes in a few hours of doing what you would be diong even without the faction because that part of the game is what you like.
i have never in close to 1000 hours had a superior vigor or absorption drop
NO WAY FOR PVP FACTION FOR COSMETIC PVE REWARDS
TGgold
I like the faction to gold idea.
I have 4 PvE characters that I PvP with.
What does faction do for me?
Nothing.

no pve chars shoudl be the only ones to get there 15k armour and fow i dotn think this should be mixed. I think if osme oen has worked hard to get a different looking pve char to be worthy for pvp then he has the right to look gd
although if u change fraction points into gold iv got 500,000+ lol so i will be rich

lets do this right.
you can buy PVE status items with faction
i can buy PVP rank with gold.
50k per rank maybe?
i could have rank12 easy right now
fair is fair.
dont like the idea of a farmer flashing a top rank emote he didnt earn????
yes put me in line for rank 12 now
EDIT
you are fully unlocked and looking for something to spend it on?
well i have all the gold i need and i am looking for something to blow it on.
fissure armor for you and rank 12 emote for me
sucks both ways

Here is my opinion to some of the "concerns"
- On Faction to Gold (and not the other way around, you cann't convert Gold to Faction...). Since I am have not really play all aspect of PvP, so I am not sure how easy it is to "farm" faction. But if you only get like 20 Faction per kill.. seems not a very good way to farm. This is primary to make more Faction more useful, in that they could even buy some PvE items with their play, as well as encourage PvEers to come to PvP, with a reward that something they could use.
- On unlocking Armor. Yes, I am aware of how 15k and FOW armor are exclusive for PvE, BUT, it also would prove you status in PvP if you do have one as well. If set at a really really high "price" (maybe like 30k of Faction for 1 unlocking armor piece of 15k armor), it would really prove something that you can wear it with a pride. Of couse, it is not for everyone, and a "goal" such as this might make people want to play some more.

There is not much difference between 15k PvE and PvP, atleast visually. However, it seem unfair to a true PvPer that if they want better looking armor, they are force to play PvE, which they might not like. It is more important not to the onlookers, but to them self.
It would even be better to have a armor set exclusive that can only be earn by Faction. But since making new armor set is not too easy (maybe in future chapters), would just go for Hats and Sash and other look add on for now (see the Novelity item)
Faction into gold is not the same as Gold into Faction. Because the activity invole in getting them is different. PvP tend to require more skill and teamwork, while gold could be getting from just repeative work. There fore
Faction = Gold (since to get faction, you need repeative work as well).. But
Gold != Faction (since to get gold you don't need such intense play as PvP)
Do I need to draw a circle diagram too?

I could see faction for gold conversion, but it would have to be low enough that the ebayers would not want to do it.
I am not interested in PvP exclusively but I would do it on occassion, but after I hit the cap what is the point for a PvE. Of course with PvP not getting gold, they don't have to put up with "WTS overpriced near godly weapon 100k plus 1000 ectos", because you know as soon as the PvP crowd gets a gold option the trade spammers will hit, them and telemarketers feel that it is their [insert diety] given right to annoy people.

*well i have everything on my part lets just go and pick up the other sides goodies without doing the grind needed for it.*
i have a more or less live and let live mindset but if they are just going to give PVE rewards to pvp people who havent done the PVE work for them i say no.
i cant get pvp prestige without pvp grind.
they should not get PVE prestige items without doing PVE to earn them.
they are OPTIONAL and if they want them that badly they will PVE to get it.
they still have an advantage as many PVE people dont have the reflexes/skill to faction farm but the pvp expert can gold/item farm very fast.
again no

Maybe I am wrong and gaining Faction is way to easy for some, but I found it hard and slow just to get enought for one skill (but agian, I don't play PvP much at all) Thus in my mind, Faction farming is lot harder than Gold farming. Is that true?
Markaedw
Now I am not dissing PvP only characters, but since faction only rewards PvP characters, it does no good for a PvE to do any PvP fighting, unless you have a slot open for PvP. So I take my level 20 ranger and do some faction farming to unlock runes (I already have most of the skills), thats it, everything else I can provide for that PvP character. Now I worked pretty hard for all those weapon upgrades and mods, even if I don't use them, but what if I don't want to delete any characters, I PvP hit the 10,000 faction mark then what? So if there is an exchange rate, even if it is 10 faction to 1g
atleast there is a reward for me to do something other than HoH for sigs, unless I can purchase sigs with faction.
I haven't done much PvP but, I didn't like that I had to delete a character to use the runes I purchased.

Let me give you a for instance. My Brother, did the PvP snowball, 22 consecutive wins before he had to go to work, yesterday 10 consecutive wins. Now he is at the faction cap. Now what, he doesn't want to delete a slot to use the points, since he can't use the points there is no incentive, so he won't PvP anymore.
So I think the question that we in PvE want to know is: PvP rewards what is in it for us, I don't want to make a new PvP character, I like my ranger, I like my weapons, I like the armor, I don't want to play a new person (this come up as whinning doesn't it).
So maybe make faction when earned by PvE only characters convert to cash instead for and when earned by PvP only characters it can only be used for purchase PvP items (although this might be to difficult to program).
So PvE gets cash for victories and PvP gets faction.

Now I want to make sure people don't misunderstand, I said I think you should be able to trade faction in for gold, I did not say that I wanted it on necessarily a 1 to 1 ratio, or above that. I just want to be able to trade my faction in for gold period. I wouldn't mind trading in 10k faction for 2k gold. Seriously. Of course I realize it's easy as hell to farm faction, but it still involves more skill and participation than does farming. I don't want to go and buy 10 15k armor sets a day or something by trading faction for gold, I just want to because I don't use faction for anything else. At least I could by my identification kits with it or something. I think maybe faction should be worth twice as much as gold---10k faction = 5k gold.
...it's not like PvPers can't already be the richest people around. With the HoH drops/sigils and what not, you can make a pretty damn good profit for PvE---but I don't think we should have to go about HoH to get some sort of reward, I think we should be able to CHOOSE our rewards for our faction. If I want to use it on some gold then by all means I should be able to. I mean christ sure I could go out and get 10k gold right now if I wanted to, but it's so damn boring I'd much rather trade in my faction.
I don't have any other use for faction, and I hate farming in PvE, so why not help them go together? Besides, I think if nothing else it'd help out with the ties between the PvE/PvP community.

So as long as faction can't be converted into gold the ebay bots will stay out. They, like telemarketters, feel that it is their [insert deity] given right to annoy people, and they will.
If you want to be able to convert faction into gold, make it so that only PvE character can. If you are a dedicated PvP player, make uber expensive faction stuff, weapons 10k per peice armor, stuff like that. If you have one/both then let the PvE sell faction to a faction trader or trade for someting that can be sold in the PvE enviorment.
PvE gets it easy, when I start out it's "go kill that lvl 0 scale and I will give you skills". If I want skill I get them by playing the game or purchasing them cheap (untill near to the end), when I made a PvP character I just about have all the skills unlocked. The only time I needed faction was for the PvP weekendwhen I wanted to make my own assassin an ritualist build, I used faction to buy some upgrades but most of my PvP was earned with my PvE ranger. I didn't care about faction, still don't but I coinage I wouldn't mind getting a little extra.
Still if there is coinaged to be made in PvP, then the bots will come.

Correct me if I'm wrong... but don't PvP players have the option to get gold through HoH play? I realize that this is a limited scope for making money but in truth PvP has a limited scope to making money... UW, SF, new Tombs, Crystal Desert (Hydras, Minnies, Griffons) and FoW are really the only truly profitable places to farm. One sigil drop in HoH is equivalent to some farmers entire day's work. Out of all the zones in the game, we have 7... about 1 to 5 ration for PvE cash crops. There are CA, TA, ZC, and HoH for the PvP players, a 1:4 ratio of where to get cash.
I have no qualms with dyes being able to be unlocked, different pets (barring the Spider, imply because it is a high effort PvE goal), templates for builds... sure... not experience, gold, or armor skins. My reasoning behind this is simple, these are PvE rewards. They should remain so... after all: the 15^50 Perfect Sundering Battle Axe of Fortitude wielded by the PvP player is the exact same as a 15^50 Perfect Sundering Chaos Axe of Fortitude that is wielded by that PvE tank. Armor is pretty much identical, 15k Armor is a reward for the serious PvE players out there. The PvP armor is equivalent in stats to that PvE 15k armor just with different looks... and not necessarily better looks. I will admit that it is rather hard to differentiate between the FoW armor types an opponent is wearing unless they are kind enough to show you.
In realistic terms, I think that if things were correct in the PvP world, I'd have no problems with PvP characters turning faction into about anything. The problem that I see is the current generation of often IWAY fame & faction farmers.
I used the following math in another thread and will repeat a fraction of it... take a look at 25 hours of game play.
But something I will point out is that a PvE player, say duo farming UW makes on average 1 ecto every 30 minutes... we'll call this 7k, not sure market price this second. So, in 25 hours they net about 350k. Course ecto drops have gotten a bit rarer in the last few days, so I'm not sure if this math holds true.
A PvP player, running with a successful team in CA is making about 3 matches per hour. Assuming that these are not flawless nor factoring in the fact they are consecutive... that means they nab around 19,500 faction points... We'll call it 20,000 for sake of argument. Even converting on a one to one basis the PvE farmer is quite a bit out in the lead.
Looking at the purchasing power of a PvP player in terms of faction turned to gold is not fair. Considering that once unlocked they can get a Superior Vigor, Absortion, perfect weapons, all of which are at least 50k+, for any character that they create. Imagine in PvE if you could simply create a character with 200 attribs, level 20, with max equipment, runes, and armor... with every new toon... kinda scary.
Finally, as for experience being a reward for faction points; don't the slaying of other characters in a PvP match net the same xp as for slaying a level 20 monster in PvE? The primary difference is that a PvE character can solo them in large numbers where a PvE character has no chance to do that.

Being a person who has the entire game unlocked...faction means nothing to me, if i had something fun to spend it on that would be great. My faction bar is stuck at 10k too, that needs to be raised, why there is a limit on how much faction you can get is beyond me.

the one most important thing is being ignored.
faction is not a reward system it is a tool for fast pvp unlocks for those who despise PVE .
once you unlock everything that tool is done, finished, and you put it away and pvp to your hearts content.

Thank you Argen for bringing some number in. Since I have not play GW too much as of late, some of the numbers in my mind might be off, so it is good to get a compareson of the two. But in looking at it, a Faction to Gold exchange is still not as good as PvE farming, even with out any exchange rate adding it to it. Therefore, earning gold such would not be the main purpose of PvP, but rather, be able to exchange gold is the main puprose for attracting more player to PvP for some of its fun. (you can always give the gold to your PvE character, adding a bit of reward for your time)
To Loviatar. Well, as this post suggest, faction should be more as a reward system. A.net is igroning the fact that PvP player also like to get rewarded and Progress and "Level UP" in ways too. Also it would attract the PvE crowds.
And as the last sentence of OP, any other suggestion for Faction Points Uses?

I really don't care about all the other stuff as much as converting to xp. Right now getting XP is a PAIN. I'm always grasping for skill points so I can test out PvE builds with my ranger. Maybe they should make, every 1 faction becomes 2 xp. That way 10k faction is the same as leveling up.

I can definitely see a problem here, but I'm not sure why it is such an issue. A PvP player can simply kick out a new character, assuming they have unlocked the skills they need. I use all of my character slots for PvE so I can't say for sure on this, is there any reason to keep a PvP character around except to keep commonly used builds such as KD/AS, IWAY, Smite, and Spikes around?
I think its fair to allow PvP characters to buy xp, at a reasonable rate... and Inureface's idea seems to be reasonable to me. However, if such a matter was done, I'd, personally, like to see it capped at the total xp available from the total number of Mission + Bonus maps. I.E. capping it at the same amount that PvE characters can get through playing the game. As ANet has stated they want to keep the PvP vs. PvE at competitive levels. XP gained from either PvE missions or faction purchases should be relatively comparable.

Jack, I liked all of your ideas. Here's another thing I just thought of to improve it more: either let us buy skills for existing RP characters (if they are unlocked) or let us convert 1000 faction into a skill point that I can buy at a trainer.

Signet!
I think that being able to exchange Factions for gold would lesser the harsh distinction between PvE and PvP, by making players able to buy runes and greens for their PvP characters with PvP rewards.
This way the PvE NPCs in HA would make more sense. Together with this I would suggest to add NPCs with PvP character's weapons tradable for Factions, which would be already customized when bought.

Well... i thought about converting faction to gold myself and i think its good idea. Even with 1:1 ratio it wouldn't be too effective (but still better than nothing).
I played this game since 3 months (pvp mostly) and I gathered about 150k faction points. Even if would convert this to gold (without unlocking anything) it would give me 150k gold. Not that much for 3 months considering that farming in PVE can give u same amount within 3 days.
I can easily gather about 10k faction in one night with consecutives on TA but its still rather small amount compared to what farmers can gather in one night of farming.
Converting faction to gold would not make game imabalanced in any way nor would it make pve farming useless, but it would give more reasons to play pve than just having fun. And I think it would make more people to come and at least try doing some PVPs.
