How can such a small, small change get a thread started for it?

What difference does it make?

It makes it easier to spot enchantments and hexes when you're looking through skills.

I agree with the OP. It's just ugly, and deters from the cool skill icons. Besides, if you enter a battle without having read the skill descriptions, you deserve to not be able to tell. I hope nobody out there just throws random skills in their bar, or simply mashes buttons while in combat. Take a few min., read and prep your skills before battle, go into battle prepared to use them in an informed manner, and ffs get rid of the mini arrows. If you can't figure it out from the description or from watching the effect on your target, then I'm sorry, but having cute (read annoying) arrows on your skill icons is the least of your worries.

There is no reason to remove the arrows from the skill bar; but its always good to toggle on/off The arrows are quite usefull when someone posts a build with no description (just a pic of it in action), so imo the arrows should stay without the ability to toggle on/off.
Just letting you think about being able to toggle.

FLAT OUT WRONG

a few chapters from now there will be many hundred skills for each profession.

when i go through that monster skill list for that new idea i want to try that is hex or enchantment based i will want to tell at a glance if that skill is a possibility so i dont have to waste the extra time reading the skill

this way i only have to stop at marked skills to see if it is what i need.

There should be a checkbox which makes them visible or invisible. I don't like them either.

Can't you sort by spell type, at least, you could last time I checked.

I saw these arrows, and was like WTF. I think they're ugly, and just...stupid looking.

I don't see how you can complain about a damn arrow. It doesnt wreck the icon and it doesnt effect gameplay in a bad way so I disagree.

Ever think of how it could help if its not YOUR skill? If you have a skill to remove hexes you probably want to be able to quickly tell what conditions on you are hexes.

There's this convenient purple color around the skill icon on your conditions monitor that tells you it's a hex. Assuming you can identify that, you then have to find out which one it is. To do so, you can know by recognition, or you can mouse-over the icon and.... read!!!!. The arrow tells you nothing that's not already evident by color. It doesn't help you ID the hexes on you at all.

Loviator, I can see your point in the skills menu and when searching on guru, for instance. However, as others have said (never done it myself), I guess you can look in-game by sorting by type. My point is more to the effect of the skill bar, though. I'll grant you your argument, but I hope you at least see mine, in the fact that if you're gonna be at all worth your weight using very conditional hexes/enchantmetns, you better know when and how to use the ones you got in your skillbar. Knowing a skill is a hex or enchantment is nothing without the knowledge of who to target and when to cast it. This is why I think that in your skillbar, the arrows should at least be toggleable.

And Maddie, I fail to see your point. Diversion is, in fact, a hex spell. Thus, if you're hexed by a mesmer, the arrow on diversion will be the same as it would be on any other mesmer hex on you. I hate to say it, but when it comes down to it, the "skill" they always talk about this game being based on is really just knowledge of the skills for the characters. You just have to spend some time learining them in order to both use, and defend against them properly.

It's all about identification of the specific hex or enchantment, not of the fact that there is a hex or enchantment.

.
i have never stated any opposition to toggle.

if it is something simple you will get it (probably after chapter 2)

remember how long it took to toggle headpiece/cape?

That's true but on elite hexes and such the gold outline covers the purple one. And the elite hexes are the ones you really want to get off as fast as possible.

I think the arrows are a nice touch. Obviously, you should know the skills in your skill bar in your dreams, but the arrows add a touch of completeness IMO. You can make it toggleable for all I care but I would leave it on.

I would vote for a toggle. It's simple, logical, and appeals to both sides of the problem.
