Guildwars is not coded for directx9, its a directx8 game and in my opinion looks just great as it is.

x9 is still "relativly" new, and not really THAT much powerfull than x8... its like the Gforce cards, Gforce2 sold more and was almost as powerfull as Gforce3. Even though Gforce3 was more powerfull the GF2 it didnt sell as good.

A Thought just hit me. Windows Vista is DX10 (built in) with support for DX 9 only (no 8,7,etc). It would make sense if GW was going to be upgraded (engine) wise to DX 9 in the near future.

DX9 runs DX8/7/6 games okay, they are all backwards compatible. I run DX3 games with DX9 without probs
Only benefits in upgrading from DX8 to DX9 would be new tricks that would only work on the new vidcards, and nearly not all GW players have those. Sure they could make part of the customerbase happy by adding in DX9 tricks, but I think updating a part of a game that only benefits few isn't very smart.. plus, I haven't anyone complain about the GFX engine yet anyways.
