not sure if this helps any, but if you cant get the disk to install, just launch the client. the game will download each section as you enter it. Yes this is a little longer and annoying every time you enter an area, it is an alternative if you cant get it to work correctly off of the disks.

I have the same problem, but it occured after uninstalling then trying to reinstall guild wars. I just get the "Connecting to ArenaNet" screen that loads up halfway then stops. I checked the task manager (ctrl alt delete) and the gw application stops taking up cpu after the bar stops. How could I just launch the client w/o installing? Choose "explore" in the cd screen?
Edit: I just tried running the application from the cd by using "explore" and all I got was the install screen and the subsequent problem with the client screen.
