ok...i got guild wars on wednesday, and i couldn't be happier. excellent game. and it's been running nice and smooth, with high quality, high resolution, and some AA.
system specs
Pentium 4 2.66 Ghz
512MB RAM
nVIDIA 6600GT (AGP)
windows XP SP2 (no choice )
latest nVIDIA drivers (71.something)
but today, i come home from school, looking forward to a complete weekend of guild wars, only to find i'm experiencing some huge FPS dips. whether it's when i'm fighting a monster, or just turning around to look at something, or just walking along, my frames just go down.
the wierd thing is, i've turned down everything...quality of graphics, AA, resolution, textures...everything. and its the same amount of FPS droppage. so at high quality, with lots of stuff on high, i get the same graphical slowdown as i do with everything on low.
FPS drops that probably shouldn't be happening.

It could in fact not be your graphics at all. You could be experiencing lag.
Kitar
Could be lag, or if your processor is overheating the clock throttling feature of the pentium 4.
If it just started, you may want to take a look at your connection. Spyware/malware/virii can also cause things like this.

Lazarus
It could be another program is running in the background and using CPU cycles. If you know what's what on your system, run MSConfig and disable some of the stuff the starts when you log in.

Could also be your connection to the internet. Even the best companies have hicups from time to time, some more then others. If it doesnt go away on its own in a day or two then any of the other reasons listed might also be a possibility.
Principa Discordia
Check that your processor and graphics card aren't getting too hot and scan your system for spyware (search on www.google.com for Spybot and Hijackthis.)
