I get so frustrated at hearing noobs saying that this and that is over or underpowered. In the event i got atleast 40 messages saying Ritualists need to be improved or that it sucks.
Ritualists are balanced with the other professions. I hate it how ppl say Ritualists are next gen monks. Ritualists is a lot different, its offensive side is just as good as its defensive side. Used effectively, a Ritualists can kill you very quickly. It can also stay alive very well. Ritualists are unique, a new type of character which i like the most. I won 15 Consecutive matches with a pure Ritualist in the Random Arenas and i lost in a 35 minute battle. Its spirits are really powerful and ashes are very tactical making Ritualists one of the professions that require the most player skill.

They're not underpowered at all. I couldn't kill one all weekend (i didn't play that much anyway). Seriously, i put live transfer on them, life siphon, and they somehow still get regen. I cried and logged off.

During the preview weekend, I found the Ritualists to be very annoying, which means they must be well balanced or they wouldn't have gotten on my nerves. I think the caviet is that they are hard to play (like a mesmer or necro, as a opposed to a W/Mo), and so you saw alot of players with it who were just pushovers because they didnt know how to use it.

I don't think Rt is underpowered. A lot of people just use the pre-made character and people don't have the points to explore new skills, new combs and new possiblities.
From the Rt I've played against, they CAN be super annoying. They make the battle last long. It's even worse when you add in Assassins with shadow step everywhere. lol
It's much better to kill the spirits than to target Rt. All you need is one interruption ranger on Rt (unless it's Mantra of Resolve). That Rt will not be able to cast ANY spirit with that casting time. In fact, beast masters are great against Rt IMO. The pet just sticks with Rt and interrupts him to death. I know I enjoyed it. lol
I find Assassins more sucky than Rt.... but they are still new so everything will be different when chap 2 comes out. Let's not make judgement too soon.

Within 6 hours of the start of the pre-view event I saw ppl saying...
"The Ritualist is overpowered! Nerf it!"
"The Assassin is overpowered! Nerf it!"
"The Ritualist is underpowered! Buff it!"

The Ritualist is the only profession that I know of that can haul a few hundred damage on a person in a few seconds and still have sufficient energy to pick off another instantly, counting the recharges too.
No, they are definitely not underpowered.

I'd say ritualists are a watered down heal area monk with minions that don't need corpses and have effects and watered down hexes.
Basically the spirits and weapon buffs are their strength.

I don't give a flying squirrel what noobs say about what is and is not overpowered. All I know is that when I went into Random Arena with a ritualist, I was able to win at like a 3-5:1 ratio, even against teams with monks. It's all about spirit placement, as long as those spirits stay alive, you're good.
I've been looking over the skills, I think an Rt/R will be the best combo, 13 Spawning + healing spring should keep your spirits afloat. Using a stance while casting under fire is also a nice way to keep from being interrupted. Since the Binding Rituals aren't actually spells (oddly enough) the only effective interrupts are melee and arrow based, no power spiking.
And Flesh of My Flesh is hands down the best rez next to rez sig in RA and #1 in Tombs. What scares me is IWAY + Spirits. They would have the potential to constantly maintain max regen, and that's just not cool.
