Now it seems to me, that there are a huge amount of arseholes that just do certain tricks so that the other persons dropped item can be picked up by themselves. I had this done to myself on a sf green run. Albeit it was only a gorrels cane, but think of all the other times when it was a much more valuable item.
So why do we have dropped items eventually free to everyone?
If they didn't pick it up, they didn't want it, sure someone else may want some rubbish white, but they can do without. If its a good item they would have picked it up, if someone does want it, they can advise them to pick it up and trade it to them.
So many lamers exploiting this..why do we even have it?
Get rid of items becoming un-assigned

i support that. the time it takes for an item to become unassigned is way too short. there is confusion about which drop belongs to who in every other game. and all the current system does is make newbies camp on white items and elems rush in to pick up their ecto because theiy fear someone will steal it.

I thought the only "exploit" was based on a certain timer that when it reaches 0, unassigns the item?

each item that drops says who it dropped for and you have a certain amount of time to pick it up before it becomes unassigned to you and free to who ever wants it. I'm sorry but if your letting items sit around for a while and then getting mad when someone else picks it up when it becomes unassigned... uh... the problem lies with you not picking it up faster.
The only exploit I know of can be done when an item drops for someone who is dead and the person is not revived until the item becomes unassigned and picked up. But that does not happen all that often.

Perhaps if a player is dead, the item could stay assigned to him/her until he/she is revived, then the counter started again.

Maybe, but a for instance, My brothe and my self and afew others were in Kryta, doing several quests, we had all used our res sig and a blue cesta dropped for him but he was dead the ettins got him before we got them. I was able to wait until it was free pick it up go to the new asclaon settlement gate give him the item and contiue on.
So I think it should be more of a player reasigning it themself

timer stopping at death is a good idea. I agree.

I would say increase the time assigned or do away with letting it go unassigned. There’s a difference between not picking it up and unable to pick it up plain and simple. There are two missions in which people take out the groups before opening the gates, Thunderhead Keep and Abaddon's Mouth Mission. Anyone who has done this tactic knows that by the time you get to the items they are unassigned, you can do it the hard way and get killed and restart the mission, or have a slim chance in making it with some of the party dead but then there is the same chance that your item will go unassigned by the time someone has time to rez you thats if the people who live have rez. Then you have the agro runner in which the item drops and they rush in to get it and argo everything on the map and expecting you to keep them alive so they can get their item which ends with everyone getting killed. I’m tired of the assumption that a player just leaves the item lying around till they feel like picking it up that’s rarely the case. This dose happen more often then people think if it’s never happened then congrats for getting into a good pug (pick up group) with good players or screwing the team to get your drop. Yes it’s my fault for getting into a pug with bad players, and for a being team player and not wanting to screw team, and for dying to keep other members alive.

Loot assignement timer pausing on death = great idea. BUMP
