Candy Canes and the new UW

Does anyone else think there's a connection between the two... the appearance of an item that removes DP closely followed by the appearance of a location where DP removal is often likely needed?

Methinks there is an experiment going on for a new gold sink. Consider most folks would rarely if ever use a CC in normal PvE, and frankly even the original UW and FoW deaths are more rare... the new UW is the perfect demand for a new supply.

Coming to a merchant near you SOON!

Just a thought... seems to be a bit beyond coincidental.

It's an interesting theory.

Though, I've made a couple of runs, and died once or twice, but not enough to warrant a Candy Cane. However, the necro has been unfortunate to catch damage spikes after sacrificing himself, many times in a row.

But for less experienced groups, Candy Canes would be a welcomed relief after spending 3 hours in the new UW, and just having too much DP to beat the Darknesses at the end.

I didn't even think about bringing the canes the first time we beat it. We fortunately had a great warriror who was giving them away. I refused to just take them for free and always offered at least some gold or a key or something to compensate, and then when we got out, I gave some back from my small stash.

I am sure as time progresses and people get more and more familiar with the layout of the tombs, that candy canes won't be as necessary as people will know how better to work through the layout and avoid the deaths better. But they are very helpful when you are on the frontlines.

Those scythes learn to lock into a target (usually me as the ele) and slam into you. I've not seen any of the other AI in the game be quite so smart and agressive about locating the target that is causing it harm and trying to take it out. Because of this, I find myself dying on average of 5-6 times though the entire campaign.

It can really mess with your confidence though.

A coincidence, possibly, but I sure am glad for them and definately see the prices spiking again in the near future. The best we can hope for is that next winter they will be available again.

I'm sure it is a matter of time before anet introduces such an item, but I do hope they price it high, like 2k a use.

If it is easily available it may turn our already moronic WaaaMoohs into bigger morons.

Which is probably why they wont introduce a buyable item like that, it can be detrimental to the game if you can remove any DP by an item costing (relative) peanuts.

Well, I got free CC from team member, when I played in new UW. I knew a lot of players don't sell CC even they hold some quantity of CC. I personally do hold some CC, but I will never sell them. I even think 2K per use is too low, but if I can give a CC to key player to complish the objective, I will rather give it for free IMHO.

My first group got the the fourth part. We had some problems with the warriors dying a lot. Candy canes were essential for us to get that far.

I think though that if we went back, we wouldn't need them because we understand the aggro better now and what is going to pop up out of the ground and where.

Candy canes are nice, and would be even nicer if put in game. Nice theory and they are definitely used up in new UW.

I would hate to see CCs - or something similar - as a buyable item. To me, it's akin to the UAS button for those who spent their time unlocking skills one by one.

Whether we bought them from a player or farmed them, if ANet allows them to be buyable from a merchant or dropped by a mob, they have effectively cheapened the time and money otherwise spent.

And it would all but eliminate the idea of DP's existence. I think that it's a good way to flush the Candy Canes out of the economy. I do NOT think that a Candy-Cane-like item would make a good goldsink. It would only serve to widen the gap between the rich and the poor by allowing the rich to farm longer and, as a result, regain more gold.

Candy Canes are worthless items, and Anet probably won't add anything which resembles a "pot" in so many ways. The Blackhole is just a side effect of having an extra outpost, moving everything PvP related to the Battle Isles, and being late in adding new content. Anet has said they'd continue to add some free content after Sorrow's Furnace, and this area is exactly that. It's doubtful this is some elaborate conspiracy/ploy to determine such an item's use as a gold sink. Anet hasn't bothered testing their gold sinks in such a way before, and it's not likely they'll start now. Let's not bother mentioning that their "gold sinks" are all nothing more than complete failures.

The only thing which worries me about Candy Canes is their transfer over to chapter 2. I truly don't want to see the pvp-style missions being won because one team brought candy canes, but the other team is without. All Anet would need to do is code the section of the EA/mission to be seen as an arena; that would prevent candy cane abuse.

don't worry about that, you can't even use it in PVP style mission currently against henchies.

glad someone noticed that. lol I got word early that CC would be HUGE in an upcoming event.. SO I farmed them to death during The Wintersday Event... unfortanatly they are getting used up pretty fast. lol I farmed not near enough... I think I'll sit on the remaining 80 or so I have left.. cause I know lots of people are still wanting them for the tombs run...

However it is worth noting wiit a good group by the time you get to the final bosses, most everyone has less then -15% dp, and it is easily doable with that... However if anyone in the party has say greater then -40% DP then they will likly need one. I have used the agreement that if they get a greeen because of a CC I get some gold (Some being like maybe 2k at the most)... otherwise its a loss for me... The Last run they got a vitcos blade and were happy to give me 2k for the CC I gave em.. thats all I asked for.. I thought that was fair... cause if I got a green cause of their help it was worth it.. right? Since they got a green on my CC, they were decent enough to pay for the CC... I dont expect anything if nothing drops for them...

Generally speaking though... the last few times going down there we have not needed any... I normally only bring like 8 per run... Dont want to risk more then that on any one effort...

EA/Missions are entirely different from PvP arenas. It all boils down to how Anet sets it up, and they're bad about neglecting small things which this falls under.

Once again, Watch out for the scammers! Ever been in a group where a guy keeps dying and asks for candy canes? A couple of times, I was sure they weren't using them.... but kept asking for handouts.

I think giving away Candy Canes in the new UW is the key to getting GREENS! I gave away (2) during the mission and I got TWO GREENS at the end. You know what they say, what goes around comes back around. (smile)

I would never give cc to the guy who begs for them. However, if a team member is struggling on without complaining, I ask for a DP check and he says -40, he gets a cc. I had 130, sold off about 50 and believe I'll hang onto the rest. Their value in the last two sections of UW is priceless.

i knew the price of CCs after the wintersday ended would skyrocket, i got like 300 candy canes the last few days by EoE bombing grawl outside the 3rd mission place, made an easy 200k (most of which was spent on some expensive dye combos i wasnt able to do before) and im gonna wait to see if the price goes up if not just use them myself
