Expanded Dye coloring options.
Mugsy Siegel
To raise custom painting your armor to the next level, they should have an expanded option of what to color speficially in your armor, with the extended option im proposing the player will be given a 3D model of the armor and clicking which section you want to paint, to make your armor a better way to represent your guild, yourself or otherwise.
i right now have Platemail armor, only minor parts are colored, i wish to have a unique armor, such as all golden or all black platemail armor, you bought the dye/found it for a reason, to paint the armor the way YOU want it!
no balancing issue, no nothing, just an option to make your armor the color you want it. as an example, if you want one section of one part of the armor silver, and another black in your halbuerk, this extended option will let you do so.
So what do you think?

It would be good. Take a bit of programming for the "3d model" thing, but hey, I'm all for individuality or whatever. people go crazy for dye, and this may push them over the edge... A rainbow coloured suit of armour would be awesome! (and perhaps a little fruity )
Spartan2
This would be great but just think of getting your equipment in just the right color coordination when the greatest body armor ever drops for you? That would make me the sadest Warrior alive :'(
Umbra
That would be great. At the very least it would be nice to have a main color and secondary color or something.
Pevil Lihatuh
yeah that would be cool. my bf has suggested this before as an alternative though, in case the 3d model was too much:
Two types of dye, primary and secondary.
Primary: dyes large areas of the armour (i.e. gives the overall colour)
Secondary: dyes 'decorative' areas, for example spikes on a necro, or the twigs on the rangers Druids armour.
That way at least you could go silver and black, whilst someone else went black and silver, still looking different but both looking cool!

I would like to be able to change the value of the dyes. Maybe a really bright color? Or a readlly dull color. Or atleast many more dye options, like pevil said :0 secondary coloring options would be nice too. More customization for characters, please. xd

I like all these ideas, the primary secondary sounds cool. I would like more dyes, like teal, brown, violet, etc, etc. I really think there needs to be some kind of dye mixer in game so you can see what the color is before you ether buy the dyes or combine them.

somebody has to give a balanced judgement on this ... varying on distance between you and another character ... your 3D models are rendered at diferent specs so if your 20 feet away they can increase the fluent gameplay in town where a town has 30 people standing around by rendering objects at a lower resolution. ... otherwise we would end up lagging like crazy. I like the idea but you would have to find a balance (which they have already) ... between details and render speed to reduce lag and increase overall gameplay. If they can increase the detail of the armor I'm sure they would have as this is one of the most graphically enhanced games on the market. Easy choice would be to say take a number like 16 (GvG) battle and base an amor detail balance on that haowever ... throw yourself in Lions Arch and you'll be choppily bouncing from here to there like a magician ... even with 1.5 G of Ram and a good video card ... not to mention they have to aim there level at an 'average' users computer specs not to lose out on clients ... 512 ram with a low end ATI card will likely be unsufficient if we could have nicer armor.

the thing is, the geometry of the armor isn't changing, just the material/shader/whatever-the-hell-they-use and that's a simple math algorithm that gets calculated at every frame taking in light color/direct and the armor's color properties. So if its doing all that work already, I don't think it'd be harder to change the silver part of an armor to blue...
who knows, I may be wrong I program 3d stuff in my spare time, I'm not professional.
I think the hardest part of the OP's request would be the whole 3d editor thing. A relatively easier thing to do would probably to impliment a secondary color for the armors... allowing you to apply 2 dyes if you wished.
Although maybe the 3d editor wouldn't be too bad. They already demonstrated that they can put 3d items in windows and allow players to rotate them (your player in the inv box)... they just have to figure out a way to set up armor to be colored by clicking.
Or heck, let the player apply dye directly onto the player in the inventory box..

Umm.....have you played this game? Armor that you can wear doesnt drop, it is crafted. Only weapons drop.
And Stumpy.....no it would not be an issue.....otherwise it WOULD be already....because the colors already change when you are wearing different armor. Just because there is a few more things that can change color does not make it more difficult to render.

hey great idea with more colours
The primary/secondary colour option would be more than enough to play with as it more than doubles what we already have

I'm all for enhancing the armor dye possiblilities
Although I'm also all for making the mixing of current dye colors fall at least *somewhat* within the rules of color theory here in the real world
True story ~ I had 1 green, and 1 red dye ... the two mixed should become grey ( which is what I'd hoped for .. .sort of like the silver, but a bit darker / dulled ) Only when I mixed them, the appearance of the bottle became a dullish orange ... and then applied to armor it was nearly the standard shade of green

It seems most people don't realize you can mix dyes...

read Pevil Lihatuh's post for the explanation of primary/secondary colours, it's genious
