600g Keys

The merchants around Kryta now have keys for sale to open the chests. They cost 600 gold though. Do you get valuable items from these chests? I just wasnt sure if its worth it to spend the 600 gold in hopes that you'll get something you can use. Thanks for your help.

In a word, no. Use the keys you get from monster drops, but otherwise, don't waste your money. I've never gotten anything out of a locked chest that came close to being worth the price of the key.

I am a chest RED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GO. I love them! But the only ones I even bother buying keys for anymore are Shiverpeak, Phantom, Miners, Darkstone and Obsidian. Some ocassional Elonian, but not usually. For the most part it will be hard to get max gold modded items from chests prior to the souther shiverpeaks.

I've never really found the items from chest worth the gold spent on the key. Most items I've got from chest were useless to me, unsellable to other players (they only seem interested in max damage, golds or greens) and merchants will only give a small amount for it...don't even cover the cost of the key. Only once in while there may be something with a mod that I could salvage and use, but sometimes you could find someone selling the mod for less than the price of the key. To buy a key or not...it's a gamble.

Sometimes you get VERY good items out of chests worth selling, but in comparison of what I spend on the keys I didn't gain anything out of it.

Say "No!" to keys.

Use keys when you find em, dont waste your cash, and in the case of shiverpeak,obsidian, and the other keys that get you over 300g, just sell the key its worth the most.I bought one Obsidian key, I got a purple out of a chest worth 112g, imagine paying 1500g of that? One other chest on the same run gave out 3 rares but even still I know for a fact that the key sold itself would have been be worth more(750g), would have been smarter to just not buy it, or sell it back to merch.. The market is severley flooded atm(imo), I just shake my head when people start talking about key runs through the FOW. Ill go along for the drops, and if I find a key great, hope I get lucky....

I agree and disagree. Agree only buy keys for shiverpeaks (usual on in south part though) miners and keys for UW and FOW. I am not known for my luck of good drops. But last week I got 2 sup runes from keys. So yes ultimately they can potentially pay off. Its a gamble but eventually it will pay off. How many keys could you buy for the cost of a sup vigor? So if you bought 50 keys before you got the sup vigor then you save yourself 10+k going that route. So I am in favor of keys its a gamble but in the end I personally believe it will pay off

At the current proposed chances at a good rune from a chest - You'd have to spend roughly ~130k to get a good sup Rune.

This is because of the chance at weapons from the chest (about 50:50 weapon to armor), the chance at purples(3-4purples per 1gold), the chance at sup rune from the gold armor (usually about 3-4majors per sup rune ID'd), and the chance that the sup will be Vigor or abs (bigger than you think, but Mesmer sups are getting more common).

Keys are a lot like the lottery, a tax on people who are poor in math. You MAY get a decent item, but most times it is far less than the cost of the key. If a key drops for me I sell it to the merchant. Sure gold versus a possibility of something worthwhile.

Odds of getting a superior vigor are much greater farming ettins (IMO).

Of course it isn't usually worth it. It's a -lottery-. But it was implemented partially as a goldsink, and it serves that purpose very very well.

Just don't use keys when you dont have the money for it. I'm rather rich and buying a key so now and then can't harm me, and it's SO exiting and fun to open a chest

of course I only buy UW keys since the items dropped out of them are almost always max dmg and often have very good mods, being more valuable then the key itself (or you get a sucky item that can be sold for 50G, but just as I said, when you don't have the money for it don't buy a key)

i only use keys or buy keys either for FOW UW or about 20 shiverpeak keys and chest farm port sledge..drops i got was sup vigors..gold fellblade..all chest in the shiverpeaks gives MAX drops..just depends on your luck.

plus while in a party.. if the first drop was a PURPLE.. all other drops from that chest will be PURPLE..

and vice versa for a gold drop.

If I get a key drop, I always use it, either it'll be be worth a decent amount(I sell things at 5-10g and up, or salvage the item if not wanted).

AFter using 100 shiver keys, ive made profit.

I made a profit of selling 40 shiverpeak keys to the merchant; troll runs give keys; I gave those chests 10-15 chances, not worth using the keys.

I only started amassing gold when I stopped buying keys. I now only use the ones that drop.

i think its been proven that after you buy 100 keys and open chests you make profit. I don't know who else is willing to take that chance though.
