Often used as a way to take advantage of new players. They think they're making a fortune selling hides for 20 or 25 gold each, when one fur square can be ~200 gold.
Charr hides are the easiest way to aquire fur squares. Fur sells for decent money at the trader. If you plan on crafting armor that requires fur squares, collecting charr hides and trading them for fur is an easy way to go. Calisaa Sedgewick in Ascalon will trade 1 fur for 4 charr hides.
For awhile Furs went up over 600gp per unit at the NPC vendors during wintersday time period and I made a fortune buying them for 60gp ea. (smile)
Of course others found out about this and between us all we drove the price back down around 250gp per unit. But, that's life in the business world, you have to read the wallstreet journal of GW's to stay on top. laffin
It is a good source of gold. Calisas Sedgwick is a collector by the merchant in Ascalon city and she will trade 4 charr hides for 1 fur square. then take the fur to the material trader and he will pay you for them. Prices flucate cuz its a trading system but currently it s 190g per fur square. Or you could sell to a player needing them for his/her armor. Personally I would keep about 10 or so in storage in the event you need them for your armor and sell the rest.
