Homework Help Forum

I don't know if this has been suggested in the past, but I think it would be nice to have part of the Outer Circle as a place for members of Guru to ask for help with their schoolwork, etc. I can think of at least one other forum where this has worked quite well... but I cannot bring myself to admit I ever played that game... *shudder*

I'm going to guess it was Runescape. However, I doubt that would be implemented, but that's just me. It could be very sticky/messy in many different ways.

The off-Topic forum is a nice to place to get help for your homework. I've done it a couple of times.

Some people have degrees

Collaboration over assignments without explicit permission from an instructor is generally a no-no in the land of academia, though a huge part of that is actually being caught and having the full force of the administration bearing down on you.
Also, political discussions are heavily prone to turning into mass flame-a-thons, and you can imagine how many kinds of those come up, whether on current events, or major historical events. Try bringing up Kent University, 1970, for example, among people with sharply differing recollections of the events.
And then there's the trolling and flaming that'll arise over Intelligent Design vs Evolution (since ID is legally taught in at least one state and one city now), the origins of the universe, and so on.
And if you don't think some people will bring things like this up on purpose, in addition to others not intending to cause trouble, you haven't dealt with enough forum trolls.

But, that's just my opinion.

I'm morally opposed to the idea. Too many people would abuse it to have others do their homework for them, in addition to what Mercury posted. It would be convenient but more self-destructive than beneficial.

While it's ok to... sometimes post something of that nature in OTA, I wouldn't recommend making it a habit. Homework is to supplement learning, and learning cannot be done for you by others.
