Rename Assassins

Assassins is such a dumb, overused cliche by this point. Instead, I propose that the profession be renamed to something much more evocative and indicative of their true, super, awesome-o power. Henceforth, all Assassins shall be known as Nightcrawlers.

Think about it, it's the perfect name. They're sneaking around. Crawling, if you will, looking to pwn someone and then they jump out of the shadows and deliver a blow Chuck Norris would be proud of with their awesome ninja skills and uber dual wielding. And when do you get shadows? At night! It's perfect.

Furthermore, to let everyone know someone's just been pwned by a Nightcrawler as they sneak away back into the shadows, all teleportation should be accompanied by a loud "BAMF" sound effect. Possibly, it should even show up plastered across the screen of everyone within radar range. It's just that cool. Also, to mark out someone playing a Nightcrawler as so far removed from the normal level of competition, they need something to make them stand out from the crowd. I'm not sure, but I think something like having the chat browser parse their text into a mangled German accent would do the trick. "The" becomes "Das", all w's become v's, and you can even do things like replacing exlamations with things like "Mein gott!" and "Actung!". That way you just have to look at the chat box to know how awesome someone is. Oh, and if you pre-order, you should get a set of little capsules filled with sulfur and a card that says "Face it, you're going to get pwned by a Nightcrawler. When that happens, break ONE tablet under your nose to enhance the experience by replicating actual in-game conditions."

Reminds me too much of X-men, but maybe some people will like it.

Hold on there, crackpuppy...

May I be the first to say that we don't need any pseudo-nazi mutants trying to rip off 1960's Batman TV gimmicks.

Now, I can only assume that you meant this as a joke (or at least I hope you did, since I have seen worse ideas whose creators were quite serious about them), so in that sense I did get a ckuckle out of it. If, on the other hand, you were serious I can only imagine that something like this might work it's way into GW as part of an April Fool's update or something.

yes, Assassin is a over use name... but it is still a decent name.
since it is called a profession, thus need a name that can also be refered as a professional. Night Crawler just won't do....

But would like to hear what other name would be better suited for such class as Assassin that would be more original and more fun to say.

Personally, I think they should have stuck with the original pronounciation of the word "Assassin", and made chapter 2 an arabian theme with elements of India mixed in. Instead of Assassins and Ritualists, we'd have Hashashans and Sha'irs. I realize "japan sells" these days, but honestly, jumping the shark and making a ninja-themed (and not even legitimate ninja, but the knock-off BS produced for american children cliche's and misinformation). The whole oriental theme is QUICKLY losing its appeal, and even our snot-nosed brats are starting to realize it.

I would have rather seen the arabian themed expansion. Long, flowing robes, turbans in the style of Lawrence of Arabia, Jambiya-style daggers and Tulwar swords with wicked edges, and djinn/efreet/Dao/marid/genie themed spirit skills and spells.

Can't say it wouldn't be cool.

Maybe not Nightcrawler, but I do agree it needs to be changed.

Something like Ninja, Stalker, Cutthroat, Spy, Invader or my personal favorite... Saboteur would be a lot better.

You know that would be a cool idea to have more different cultures mixed into GW so i hope they will add a arabic theme too, but i think they will get loads off racistic pms screams and other not really cool stuff.

Don't see why. Sure, a handful of people might get upset. But none of them will be from the demographic being stereotyped. They'll all be rich, overpayed, underworked, upperclass white people who think that they're helping by bitching and whining (they aren't). I don't see anybody bitching about the Mesmers or Necros reflecting poorly on any of the white demographics in America.

So, we use elements from middle-eastern culture in a game. Big deal. Been done many times before (Might I mention Al-Qadim from 2nd edition Dungeons and Dragons?). We represent them fairly (no deliberately nerfing the stereotypes), and there shouldn't be a problem.

um, well theres a large US quata of people that might ether object or whine if they added a middle eastern appearence to the game, to be honest.

and if you wanted to bitch about steriotyping of a game, try sims2 or console sims...90% of every sim i make in that comes up with dark skin, large lips and afro wig hair at the defalt stage...., but i digress....

face it....orental is IN.......arabian/ middle eastern is OUT, i a big way.....
at least when it comes to games styles....
also, dont forget, the main players in the games generic chunk are.....morons.

yup, big dumb morons who would likely take umbrage at anything that remotely *looked* middle eastern, but think...'gee, assassins are COOL! <insert stupid crappy ninja movie tital here> was their fave film and they like dressing up in yellor tracksuits with blonde wigs on at halloween...

so we *could* have arabic structures and character classes, similar in use to the old Al-Quaim stuff, but the big question would have to be.....how many of those cash cow numbmuts boys are gona get their daddy to pay for a game that looks like that?
answere.....a whole lot LESS than the nice, safe, oriental based game....
i mean, how many copies of the Al-Qadim sold, compared to the Oriental Adventures set? i hardly ever see a copy for sale of the Al set, but the oriental once are always for sale in the used section....

now, befor i get mugged down a dark ally and beaten to a pulp for saying everyone is thick, IM NOT!

im saying that a reasanable portion of the games players, and again i say THEY DONT EVER VISIT THESE FORUMS, OK.....
that is the target demographic of a reasonable portion of the game.....
they are the ones with the wammo standing about spamming crap in the normal chat channel....the ones that treat you like dirt if you happen to not think/act/play like they do....

sorry to have to say it, but its true.....now maybe we can get by with somethings *similar* to a cross between egyptian and arabic styles in chap3, but i wouldnt hold my breath....its just not economically feasable right now. the way the BigBoys like to play their games/styles of games.....

Too much confusion over the changed name. I noticed after they moved topk we had a hard time dicussing which tombs we were talking about.

"Which tombs the tombs invested with monsters or the tombs invested with IWAY?"

I like the name how it is /notsigned

It's not pseudo-nazi. It's basic german, unchanged since the late 1800's. "Mein Gott" is german for "my god!", an exclamation of surprise, horror, or shock. I'm not sure what "Achtung" means. I'm fairly certain it means "Here," or "Now," or something similar. Go read a book.

The retard who started this post is blatantly referencing the german-imigrant Nightcrawler, from X-Men comics. The "Bamf!" reference is the sound that character supposedly makes when utilizing his teleportation power.

The use of Pwn and Uber, on the other hand, inspire derision and scorn equally. The only people who use "Leet speak" these days are people who have no right to do so. All the original computer nerds from the 80s know what I'm talking about.

Achtung actually is 'attention' (from dictionary), and I think more like 'look out'/'danger' based on how it's used on warning signs and speech. Go play some games

"Signet of Disapproval"

-I like the Assassin's name to be just that, overused or not, an Assassin is an Assassin.
-I really dislike the alternate name.
-Chuck Norris jokes must die with a vengence.
-People need to stop steryotyping those who like Assassins/Ninjas/Rogues/Thieves/Spys/Bandits/Highwaymen/Briggands (Yes now I'm just showing off)/Sabateurs/Shinobi/Ruffians/etc.
-People also need to stop steryotying those who like Far Eastern Cultures.
-I lived in the Middle East for 5 years, I never want to see sand ever again. The old style buildings are cool though.
-Most people in this game are NOT people who are stupid/retarded/mentally deficient/idiotic/losers/need therapy/or are of an otherwise pathetic nature. But most of the people who are those things, open their mouths more often.

True, Assassin is overused. But aren't professions like Warrior/Tank or Elementalist/Mage overused just the same? You can rattle off tons of games that use those names. So as is the gist of most of my posts, it's fine the way it is.

But! the way they run totally needs to be changed, both while having a daggers equipped, and while not having them equipped.
