Why not have the weapon crafter, for a fee (kinda pricy like 5-10k), pull the upgrade you WANT out of a weapon for you?

I'm sure there is a % chance that you will get..
A) Upgrade 1
B) Upgrade 2
C) Rare Material
D) Material

so use that as the price factor of extracting the mod.


Lets say there was only a 3% chance you can get that +20% whatever off and say there is a base price of 5k to remove the mod. That would be a 97% failure rate, so you would get an almost double base price ((5*0.97) + 5 = 9,850) to remove the mod you want. could also factor in the price on the weapon with a base of 125g (the price of collectors weapons).

OR

If they add a weapon upgrade merchant or..... please for the love of....... a auction house. Use the price of the mod as the factor of the slavage price. So if the mod is selling for 100k, crafter charges 25% or so to get it.

Honestly it could be 30k for all i care, it would also help get rid of the abundant amount of gold floating around with only one real gold sink (fissure armor). plus this would help me and many others not want to kick the shit out of the game for losing a 75k mod to some steel!!

Auction house = Awesome idea, I hate in game selling, it sucks, the spamming over other sellers, jeezus it never ends..

Weapons Crafter = Maybe some special character in somewhere like copper hammer mines or something, or the granite citadel. He could extract any mod you choose, payement is half of the current price it could sell for. But then again that'd open a whole new market (Similiar to the dye market)

thats a good idea of only having one NPC to do it, i would even be happy if its the Fissure armor crafter where you have to fight your way and have plenty of gold when you get there.
