Can you upgrade the dragon sword?

I recently acquired one of these things and I thought it looked pretty decent. I was wondering if I could dye the flames a different color and add upgrades such as hilts. Thnx.

So far I havent been able to upgrade or dye mine. I have tried several hilts/ebon/shocking/vampire/fury no dice

You can dye it, but the color of the flames won't change, just the hilt.

You can upgrade the Pommel, but not the hilt. It is designed to do fire damage (damage types are always on the hilt) so they won't let you change it. The pommel allows upgrades like +HP and +armor and what-not.
