Storage interest
Bahumhat
[I'm not sure if I spelled Intrest right, but o well.]
I think that the Storage, and how you can save money n' stuff is great, but I hear that alot of people are poor.
My suggestion is, that whenever you put money into it, you get a 5% intrest rate and your money will increase by 5%(or more) every day.
Example: When i put in 100g into storage, the next day i would have 105g in my storage, then if you count up a weeks worth, i'll have 135g in storage, and so on.

Lovely, so all I gotta do is take out gold from my storage accounts to drop each storage amount to 952,380 gold in order to fit in the daily interest, and I would have to withdraw the daily interest payments amounting to 47,619 gold per storage account per day. Hmmmm, where to store it??? More accounts ...
PieXags
I think this would be a cool idea---if it only counted each day you logged on. It'd be pretty lame for someone to stick a couple hundred k in their storage then log off for a few months, come back and have more money. I'd say it increases each day you log on, so at least you have to make some sort of "effort" for your intrest.

The rich will just become richer...... your 100g scenario thats nothing compared to the 952,380g scenario. Not like you need that much money anyway.

And 5% daily may be a little high, but I like the idea.

So the poor players hurt themselves even more by spending the small amount of money they do have, while the rich players can happily spend away purely on the thousands they make per day in interest.
Brilliant.
Brilliant.

I disagree with this idea. Yes, it may sound good, but this would only be hurting the poor more than helping them. The poor place, say 1000 gold into their storage. The next day they come out with 1050 gold, so they're happy with the 50 gold profit. However, a rich player places 100,000 gold into their storage. The next day they come out with 105,000 gold, a 5000 gold profit. Here we can see that the rich player gains 4950 more gold per day than the poor player. Now consider thousands of rich players gaining more and more money each day, and you can see how quickly money will devalue. What used to be able to buy 1 ecto will now buy 10 ectos.
PieXags
Perhaps making a seperate section of one's storage, with a limit as to how much you can have in that section? You have your "Withdraw" option, your "Deposit" option, and then say your "Interest" option---you can only have up to ...20k in your interest option, this way the poor person could put his money in and work up to 20k (where it would stop) while the rich person...wouldn't even bother...?

Well Dralspire I simply assumed you'd give all that "free cash" of yours to me, so now you see where I'm coming from.

Toss 20K in one, and thats a profit of 1K a day, without even working. Toss in 100, and you get 5. At the end of a month the initial 20K produced 30K, while the 100 gets 150 more for his troubles. This would only serve to make the rich richer.
Bahumhat
I dont understand what you guys have about the rich I mean, its like saying everyone should be billionaires like Bill Gates, or be poor like that hobo you saw the other day
there is also a limit to how much you can hold on 1 account.(1,000k in storage and 100k on each character) Eventually, they are gonna have to spend it, if they want to keep getting money. Even if a character has every single slot of inventory(even storage) filled with 250 globs of ecto, eventually he is gonna have to sell it, and with the max gold he has, he wont be able to get more. He will also not be able to get other stuff besides ecto, because all the inventory he has is filled with 250 globs of ecto. He wont be able to buy FoW armor, because he will need shards and other materials, besides ecto.

A good idea, but aB-'s point nails it on the head. To someone who is loaded already, a % figure will mean more $ for them, and less for someone who doesn't have the play time to farm for gold. So if something like this is implemented, it should be a fixed amount, say 500g per day. But honestly it's fine the way it is, if you need $, go out and work for it.
Orbberius
Horrible, horrible, HORRIBLE idea. Money needs to be taken OUT of the game, not put IN to it. If you think this will somehow help the poor players with respect to the rich players, then you haven't thought it out very well.
Seriously, what the hell do you want an interest rate in a game for? Are you somehow deprived of a REAL-LIFE bank account to worry about interest rates with?
God, if you're so intent on injecting real-life ideas into a video game about monsters and maidens, then how about this one: an INCOME TAX for the obscenely wealthy. At least this would do some good, unlike interest rates.

I'm sorry little things like this get to me...if you had 100g in beginning of week and there was 5% interest, you wouldn't have 135 g at the end of the week...think about it

I guess this would be useless for those of us who have 1 million gold already in storage eh?
Ultimate_Gaara
If they happen to put an intrest option in then 5% is way too high, try something more realistic like .05% or something. Furthermore they should add other things like you can not touch it for a certain amount of time, plus the cap Pie brought up.
But then again, the rich just keep getting richer, money becomes less meaninful and item prices go up which leaves poor "Newbie Norman" to fend for himself. Basicly you get D2 like status, gold means nothing and people will use rare items as the new currency much like the SoJ, Runes, and Jewels in D2. So pretty much no matter how you look at it due some people this will have a huge negitive effect on the econ. Even worse is then I have to come here and listen to thousands of new members asking the age old question still unknown to man " Just how do you make money?"

I love this idea, then my 600k could easily make me lots of money. I like the idea of this simply because it benefits me. But seriously, this would kill the economy. IF they ever introduced interest, I say they might as well throw players in certain tax brackets and tax the heck out of them. Like for example: for every 100k the player has, each trade transaction costs him/her 5k.
Hmm.... after checking my post for errors, I realize that any/all of my little thoughts wouldnt make the game any more fun, but its something to think about. Come to think of it I disagree with the interest idea, why should "poor" players be able to make a fortune off doing nothing(yes it would take a long time), when I had to work for it.

The difference between rich and poor will become even larger in a matter of days.

Speaking of which why not have taxation?
A tax of 3% on your net worth every day, if you stop for a month you are dead!

Although I completely disagree with the original idea, which would primarily benefit those who are already rich (just withdraw your interest every day to buy up a few ecto and keep the prices high), it does have open up one entertaining idea....
*puts on half moon glasses and tweed jacket with leather elbows*
Banks paying interest is a very modern concept. Historically, if you wished to store money in their secure environment you would have to pay them a fee for doing do. Like medieval banks, Xunlai Agents are storage houses, not investment corporations. All they are doing is keeping your property safe.
Therefore, if you want to get the GW economy under control, Xunlai could charge a regular fee for storage, based on the quantity of cash they hold for you, automatically deducted each week (with no fee or just a peppercorn payment if you have less than 25k for example).
*takes off history prof fancy dress and fake beard*
Seriously, I would not advocate anything that would annoy people as much as this, but it would be a better game balancing measure than making the rich even richer.

Guys, if there was interest it would NOT be x% daily! At best it would be per month - realistically per year.
But I think that there won't be such a feature yet. If they had some sort of investment scheme where your money was put at a risk, perhaps. Before that some sort of gambling area would be better

Personally I don’t see what the big problem is anyway. The rich where once people like you moaning about being poor. But what did they do about? Work for there money. How would you feel if you spent god know how long trying to get all this money then 3moths down the line Anet introduced interest rates.
I’m sorry but it’s stupid. Nothing would be achieved. The poor get richer. The richer get even richer. And the same people that was with the idea of interest rates would soon complain that the rich then suddenly invested in something else and then the lesser rich people would then moan at the fact that they didn’t catch on fast enough.
Then bang new thread on here with more poor people moaning about the rich people investing in better stuff to keep there money. Think about it. It won’t fix the problem just shift it along for a few months and the possible even make it worse. Besides I don’t understand what the big deal is about being poor.
This may sound stupid but half the fun is trying to get money. Wheres the fun in being able to buy the best equipment straight way and being able to crush every enemy in the local area in 3 blows. That’s ruins the game in my opinion. And I’m sure there are other people in these forums that agree with me
I'm going to leave you with a quote from possible the lamest lyrists around 50 Cent

Maybe more monthly... but certainly not daily... In any case Arenanet has said many times its not about the goodies... and that they play it almost exclusively with collector (free) items and do just as well in game... So being uber rich, is convenient yes... but not necessary. And since Anet has gone to great effort to make many gold SINKS, to pull gold out of the economy, it seems silly to do the opposite and encourage more farming in order to gain more gold through bogus interest rates... Is it an interesting economic idea? yes... Should it be considered? sure... Will it happen? I doubt it... Sorry...
That just a little to real world and will surely be abused by gold resellers... Imaging having 500K in like 200 accounts... Those gold resellers would quickly have renewable streams of gold to use for resale on the internet... And they would no longer have to hire out farmers to gather gold for them eventually... They would just pull for interest bearing Storages...
For that reason alone I feel it will not be picked up. Arenanet has enough problems with gold resellers, that they would not want to make it even easier for them to operate. If Arenanet ever wants to sell gold themselves, that's up to them and its their IP to do so. And I'm sure some would do it at that point if they did... but until that time. No way. Anything that helps those people that constantly break the EULA and the Rules of Conduct agreement just is not needed... Not saying that you do or anything, But I know of several dozen players that have had their accounts Locked or Reset for such activity... These companies are doing this with no regard for the product, or its players. Want to blame someone for a particular Nerf or skill change? Blame the Gold Resellers.. Cause its them that are doing it to the MMO communities to fight their activities... not the other way around...

WHY!? What's the damn point?
If you want to save money, put it in that same storage and just don't bloody touch it. If you want MORE money, go play the damn game and earn it.
Sorry if I came off harsh, but this is the most ridiculous idea I've ever heard of for a game where money does not play such a huge role at all.

at 5% intrest, you wouldn't have 135 gp if you had 100 gp in there the first day. It'd be more. Why? Because 5% of 105 and so on isn't going to be off your original 100. It'll build off of itself.
