FPS dip in cities and fights

I just upgraded my video card to an Asus GeForce 6600GT 128mb AGP card. Every time i come into a town, the fps drop to about 9. While i'm questing, they run about 60fps and then when a monster comes around it dips to 5 or so. What is going wrong? I have tried overclocking the board, forwarding ports, reinstalling drivers...i just don't know what to do next. Any help is much appreciated.

System Specs:
Windows Me
AMD Athlon XP2700+
512 MB Kingston RAM
Asus GeForce 6600GT 128mb
20 gig hd
40 gig hd
cable connection with 2 computers via linksys router.

If you have updated drivers, i would reccomend first disabling any other running programs (virus scanners, software firewalls etc).

Next checking to see if you have any spyware or virus' on the machine. There should be more information about this in the sticky.

I have no firewall or virus scanner running. I have deleted any and all spyware or virus on it as well. The information in the sticky obviously didn't help or i wouldn't be wasting my time asking would I?

Same problem here.

Window XP
Pentium 4 3ghz
Radeon 9700 Pro 128mb
1024mb RAM

I remember back in the old BWE, I had no such problem. I first started to get these lags in the last BWE. I've tried different drivers, cleanup up my comp from any virus/spyware, etc.

People often dont read stickies

When you reinstalled drivers did you make try using a program like driver cleaner after uninstalling them. Then rebooting, then reinstalling?

No i didn't. Since this was a brand new card to replace the onboard video, the drivers windows used were upgraded. Then i rolled those back and upgraded the drivers via nvidia.com's site.

I've seen quite a few threads on this over multiple forums. Most all were on winXP systems. So it seems to be spread over multiple OS as well. It can't be lag, cuz that wouldn't cause my FPS to drop to 1 should it?

Any ideas here? The game is basically unplayable as it stands.

I use win2k, I genreally don't get brilliant frame rates in cites but that becasue of the number of characters, but they rarely drop bellow about 25fps.

I know ME is not the best OS for modern games, and XP runns games 10% slower than 2k. which is why I run 2k.

I run a 6600GT on a 3.0 P4 as well. Frame drop can either be a result of a lot of polys on screen to draw or a lot of fast moving objects and effects. You're certainly experiencing both of those things.

You didn't mention what resolution and level of graphical detail you were running at. Perhaps you're exuberance at turning everything up as high as possible is killing your framerate?

It does it at every possible resolution, every video setting available.

For me, the game runs consistently at 60 fps(my refresh rate) when out in the wilderness. I run it at 1280x960(all graphic options maxed).

It only drops to as low as 35 fps in very crowded towns, such as Barradin's Estate.

Could be your video configuration as the 6600GT should be able to handle this game easily.

Well to drop to like you said 1FPS it has to be your connection even though you have cable their could be a bottle neck or blockage somewhere along the line.Thats where i would put my money on in your case.
You can always trie installing older drivers as well as the latest and greatest..Thats a quite new card you have.http://downloads.guru3d.com/
Good luck.

I don't see how it would only bottleneck when i see a monster on the screen, so that can't be it. I haven't received an email from GW support in 2 days now. This really sucks paying 50 bucks for a game i can't play and should be able to. I can run ANY other game at a min of 30FPS, perfectly smooth gameplay. Call of Duty, Diablo 2, Warcraft 3, Everquest...you name it. This has to be some kind of bug with GW.

An Me user on another forum posted today and said that XP solved his problem, too. I've said it before, and I'll say it again: Me is the worst OS that Microsoft has ever unleashed upon the unsuspecting public.

Congrats!

ahaa youve got me interested now, can you explain this to me in any way possible, as im running on 2k and i seem to be experiencing problems that are not allways major (in some cases) but can be contained. ive heard that XP might be the answer to this, thats y i need clarification on this (sorry to change the subject but it aint worth making a new ppost on) thanks.

Windows XP is actually a very nice operating system, in my opinion. You just have to know how to treat it.

bluh, all ive heard realy is that its much more user freindly, cutting off more advanced usefull features or making them harder to do, as a sacrifice. for instance, one type of protacol on 2k took 3 actions, aparantly on XP it takes 5... cant remember what because im useless :P but alas, now im interested in XP.

I agree with that. Service tweaking (when you know what you're doing!) is a very nice thing.
