Useful Utility for checking system specs

Please sticky! This may help people tell us more about their computers so that we can help them.

I was directed to a utility, Belarc Advisor, a little while back. It shows a lot of what we need to know to help people. It scans your system to tell everything from processor specs to motherboard specs to software keys (DO NOT include software keys when copying and pasting!)

Click on the image that says "Click here to download your free copy of the Belarc Advisor." Run it; after install it will come up with a primary result which is then displayed in your default browser in an easy-to-read interface. You can run it again later with its desktop/start menu shortcut.

I think I ought to add something:

• Bus Clock: If you have DDR it will list half of the stated memory speed. Do not be alarmed - it's the way DDR works

Good call. I often use Belarc for detailed analysis before troubleshooting.

Please sticky this. There are too many people who fail to post their system specs.
When you do post specs from this, all we really need to see are what's under Processor, System Model, Main Circuit Board, and Memory. More info may be asked for later, but these things can help us solve a lot.

I usually make people dump their MSINFO, DXDIAG, and Hijackthis logs, but some people have trouble getting hold of this informationg. This program would be a good alternative.

Everest home edition Everest Home Edition is another good one. Very simple, compared to Sandra, but had all the specs, and will even tell you your OC levels on your CPU, GPU, and RAM.

It is free!

Hijack This, in my opinion, is one of the best troubleshooting tools available. I find that is the case because so many people wander into installing malicious software which not even the absolute best detectors can pick up.

Dxdiag is without question also very helpful.

Msinfo, on the other hand, I don't have installed with XP Pro. I do recall using it on 9x windows versions however? If I'm not mistaken.

To the original poster, thanks for the info. I've never heard of Belarc Advisor.
