I play Mo/N in PvE. I am a healer so the only necro skills I use are for healing OR disabling the enemy. However, this combo would also make an awesome smiting/protection monk. You could use curses or blood magic to heal yourself while you support your party. Also, Shadow of Fear is great for when you get mobbed.

The most popular Mo/Ne builds out there I know of are the minion builds, but those are usually necro primary for Soul Reaping anyway so it only half counts.
I had a thought about an anti monk target caller a while ago that could be Mo/Ne. Soul Barbs, Scourge Healing, Defile Flesh, Weaken Armor.... Ok everyone, go!
I could imagine something involving Healing spam, Zealot's fire, more random Smiting stuff and some curses making for an interesting farmer too.
But these are just random ideas. My suggestion, go make one! Be a pioneer!

I'm playing a Mo/N right now.
When I started, I was noob, so I didn't know the best class to play with a monk, so I picked Necro. I've been regretting it at times, but it works out alright.
I'm only level 11 now, at Yaks Bend.
The only necro skills I use are Putrid Explosion and Deadly Swarm. Putrid Explosion is good, because it deals out a lot of damage, and you can cast it quick while you sit back.
This way, its a pure spellcasting build, and you never have to be in the action like a Mo/W or something, and instead can sit back, deal damage, and also heal without having to worry about yourself getting hurt.
Its worked alright for me so far, I'll just have to see how well it does in PvP.
Its good to try random combinations, thats the fun of RPGs, playing something no one would expect.

I have a monk/elementalist pure healer. I see lots of flavor of the month monk/mesmers out there trying to use channeling and having to get up close to the enemy in order to actually "steal" that 1 energy. Energy tap is a long cast and often there is no time for that in the middle of battle. You want just about every spell to be healing something. Whereas I can save 20+ energy in the course of one fight with the elementalist glyph which is unlinked.
Basically I wouldn't worry about your subclass because you'll be able to change it later on. Use your sub-class to add to damage like you are doing now, and necromancy can be pretty effective in PvP although probably more so for necro primaries that get less targetted. If you're a monk primary most often you will be swarmed first, leaving you little time to do damage or cast anything but things to keep yourself alive. Potentially though you could combine vampiric touch with healing spells to keep yourself alive a long time while dealing damage.

People going for Mo/N (like myself) tends to do it for the Elite Necro skill called Offering of Blood.
This is for PvP though where it can be quite handy in a good team with more than 1 Mo for cross healing.
Right now i prefer the use of Shield of Judgment or Mark of Protection but can always change should we meet a team who knows how to counter it or simply knows I use them.

I play a monk/necro and love it. it is fun and diverse. farming is best with a monk/warrior though ... but in relative PvE play it is alotta fun. i utilize my monk smite/prot and necro blood / death ... depending on how i feel ... sometimes i go all out as healing and divine and blood magic ... it really has potential but in PvP ... i have to agree ... the best build will be based on minions as you can build them up and send them a heal or god forbid Protective Spirit every once and a while ... and if you got 4-8 level 16 minions running ... it can really cause issues with the other team and they will easily be overwhelmed ...
i learned first hand from a necro/monk ... (still having nightmares) had there team down 3 and they came back and swarmed us hugely because the coordination broke from the shear massive army
All in all you will have to find your niche, and what works best not only for you, but in your group as well.
