Heh, dude you are a few months late. They run from AoE. Try this: (credit goes to mosc2k from gamefaqs.com for this advice):
Ok, so no more AOE smiting. So what? they don't run from cyclone axe
Healing = 11
Smiting = 8
Strength = 6 + 1 = 7
Axe = 8 + 1 = 9
Tactics = 7 + 1 + 1 = 9
Armor/runes
ascalon helm, rest galdiators. Use best vigor/absorbtion (only minor required) along with minor tactics, strength, and axe
Weapon/shield:
3/1 vampiric axe is a must. I use the forge axe which is 6-28 +15% while enchant 9 req. Customize it, throw on the vampiric and an enchant grip. The shield should have -2 damage while enchanted, 9 or less tactics req, and 16 defense. Of course some added health from say, Manolin's shield would help...
Skills:
Cyclone Axe
Bonetti's Defense
Gadiator's defense
Healing Breeze (optional, can be useful in bad situations)
Judge's insight
Vicarious Spirit
Strength Of Honor
Mending
Ok, so cast mending and wait till you have 20 or more energy and then cast strength of honor. This way you still have enough for vicarious spirit followed by cyclone axe to open.
Run around and find griffins. Since the nerf, they won't follow you forever so I herd them into two groups. I first run to the left boss spawn and then kill whoever follows me and then run to the other boss spawn and kill all of em there. Remember to cast Vigorous spirit once you stop and they gather all around you.
Ok, now the key if you've never done this before is understanding that cyclone axe should IMMEDIATELY be followed by bonettis (or glat defense but you can only use that once every 30 seconds). When I say immediately I mean it. I have cyclone on slot 1 and bonettis on slot two and once I hit the 1 button, I pound the 2 until bonetti's triggers. Done properly it's an explosion of damage and life at the same time you go right back into bonettis. Generally try to minimize the time in between cyclone axes as they are your main source of damage.
OK, so the battle order works something like this
Run around...
-cast vigorous spirit just before they bunch around me
-cyclone/bonettis (I put them as one because they should be done virtually togeather)
-cyclone/glat defense
-vigorous spirit (I always follow glat defense with this. That way it never runs out on me)
-another cyclone (just alone. Don't waste that glat defense effect around you)
-judge's insight (this adds a lot of damage to your cyclone but is totally optional. Don't die trying to get it off, it only makes things faster, not easier. They also love to counter it so don't sweat it. At least they didn't counter your vigorous spirit!)
-cyclone/bonettis
-cyclone/bonettis
-cyclone/bonettis
you can try stuffing a judge's insight in between a cyclone/bonettis if you want to re-activate it before the gladiator's defense is done charging...
so remember the two parts of this. Cyclone/bonettis is one part and the other is while you have your gladiator's defense up, you can cast things like vigorous spirit and judge's insight since the glat defense doesn't expire when you use a skill. This way you always have one of the stances up, are swinging cyclone axe every 2 seconds, and hit pretty damn hard.

Use this:
* Crimson Carapace Shield, Armor: 12 (req. 8 Tactics)
Health +45 (while enchanted)
Received damage -2 (while enchanted)
Found in Mamnoon Lagoon from Vargil the White. Cheap, easy to get, effective. Get Malinon's if you have the cash.

Buying those can be almost 1k each shell..
Er. That's for the desert one with max armor and w/ stance. Should've read more carefully :P nev0rmind. *hide*

This is what I use....
Cyclone Ax
Vigorous Spirit
Bonneti's
Shield of Judgement
Zealot's Fire
Dylock Sig
Balthazar's Spirit
Live Vicariously
So what I do is aggro group of monsters. Use Dylock (sp?) Sig and Shield of Judgement (if there are Rockshots nearby, I throw up Bonneti's first, then cast Shield of Judgement) While they're busy dying, I cast Zealot's fire, then I use Cyclone ax + Vigourous Spirit (which triggers ZF and helps restore health). Then I wait for Cyclone ax to recharge then do the combo again. DO NOT CAST MULTIPLE MONK SPELLS IN A ROW. Cause the monsters will run. But if you always do it in that order it works fine. Once SoJ runs out I start throwing up Bonnetti's everytime it comes up and just keep repeating the Cyclone Ax + Vigourous Spirit. Sometimes it's neccesary to use SoJ again. Its also sometimes neccesary to use VS while your still in Bonnetti's Stance so you're less likely to get interrupted. So instead of CA + VS, you would use VS+CA.
