Energy Surge not dealing correct dmg?

Hi, I have been testing a little with mesmers and used energy surge. It says it deals 8 damage for every energy point stolen to all adjacent foes. But sometimes, I do steal ten energy, but only deal like 24 damage. Could anyone tell me why I don't deal 80 damage?

Thanks in advance.

Perhaps they only had 3 energy?

Wandering my own road.

As was said, they are only damaged for the energy they actually lost.
If that's not the case, then perhaps they had a damage reduction skill up?

Correct answer, I presume.

I run my W/Mo when soloing, having two enchants so I have no energy regen, then after first mind burn/wrack/whatever, mesmers in PvE are pretty powerless in certain areas.

I checked several times and they did lose 10 energy. At least, I guess the purple 'dmg' shows energy, and I am sure it said -10.

The purple numbers that come up from energy loss on such skills as Energy Surge and Energy Burn have, in my experience, never been accurate. They always say the maximum amount of energy that your opponent should lose from the skill whether or not that player has that much energy. You really have to gauge how much energy the opponent has by the damage numbers displayed or the amount your own energy goes up (in the case of energy stealing skills).

Either that or some sort of damage reduction. But it may well be a UI issue.

mesmer skills that drain energy will always "create" the maximum purple number above the foes head. it does not indicate how much the foe actually loses. If things like surge or burn don't do their max damage your target is most likely drained, slap on mind wrack, use another nrg burning skill and enjoy the damage

i never ahd that problem before because it takes a max of 10 energy and 8 for each energy loss. My best guess is they had less then 10, look harder because armor doesnt block it.

That is the max energy they lost. Just like if I hit a foe with 40 health with something big it still shows 140 damage, even though they only lost 40.
