Monk: party xp distribution

first off, how does xp distribution work with parties
from what i read im only able to figure out that it does split the xp but how does this split occur?
also if you are the monk of the party healing partners but rarely killing enemies, would you still get a fair share of xp from the kills?

I believe the xp spread is all even no matter if u killed it or not

You must be near them to get the XP.
