Life bond not in the underworld?

Can someone explain to me why lifebond works in the normal game world on a 55 monk but not in the underworld?

In testing on hydras the 55 monks damage was reduced to 3 and since the remaining damage that came to me was reduced by 3 (0 in protection) all I got was a bunch of 0s floating up from my head. Take this trick for a speed run in the underworld and the monk still took the first couple of hits as 3s but I took 200s.

Is this normal?

actually check up on finger of chaos, all those grasping mobs love monk enchantments...

biggest reason? its a new zone and the imonk has been the solo UW farming king for soooo long, for some odd reason ANet decided to discourage that practice. actually 'the finger' does a bit of different stuff to a lot of classes, you might want to search on it if you want to be effective in the new UW

Ok I'm trying hard to work out what you have been doing, and what you are trying to say.

It sounds like you and a friend have been teaming up to farm the UW. You don't mention which UW though. I am also imagining the reason you have "0 in protection" is that you are not a monk. I would also suggest you are a necro, because SS is the only skill anyone uses these days.

Seems to me the problem you faced was that Life Bond was not reducing the damage after Protective Spirit, but rather before it. So instead of your bond splitting 5 damage in half and giving 0(3) of that to you, it was splitting the initial ~400 damage in half, and giving 200 to you. I don't think Life Bond is neccessary on a 55 monk build anyway, seeing as they only take 5 damage to begin with, and any interesting possibilities of using it are removed by the stacking issues (such as this) that are so extremely prevelant in GW anyway. Did you cast Bond before or after he Prot Spirited himself?

If you are duel-farming Old UW with you paying necro, I can only recommend going N/Me anyway, because Sympathetic Visage is so invaluable vs the smites.

Did you actually read the original post? How is this "normal?" How would the bonded monk take 3 damage if the enchantments were stripped? Obviously the enchantments weren't stripped if the bonded monk is being hit and only taking 3 damage.

The situation does seem a bit weird as you described it. I would concur with darkMishkin and ask the question about order in which the enchantments were cast. Keep in mind that there is a recent change. Used to be the order of the enchantment stack did not change if you recast a temporary enchantment before the old one expired. Now it does. The refreshed temporary enchantment becomes the last enchantment cast. So if you had prot spirit then life bond, and then refreshed the prot spirit, the enchantment stack becomes life bond then prot spirit, which is obviously not what you want as you would take ~150 damage from the lifebond as the bonder.

However, you indicated that the bonded monk was taking 3. If the order of the enchantment did somehow change into lifebond then prot spirit because of a prot spirit refresh, you would take ~150 but the monk will still take 5, not 3.

So yeah, it is a bit weird. Probably more testing and information on enchantment order and confirmation that the bonded monk is in fact taking the damage that you indicated in the various situations will help. It might be a bug if all the statements you made are confirmable. It is a simple case of enchantment order if you had misrecalled the observations.

Thanks, I had no idea the order that the cast had any effect at all, it sure didn't seem to against the Hydras. I guess I will have to go do more testing on this to see if it is the order or if it is just that the UW (old) creatures do things differently.

Oh and the reason for this, well no good reason at all. Just trying different things while waiting for Ch2 to be released. I have finished the game with each character type and now it is just about messing around trying to see what fun a person can have

protective bond sucks for soloing because it takes all your energy and it can end too! description of it is " only can do 5% dmg but everytime the ally takes dmg you lose 5 energy or protective bond ends" so thats why you died!
