Error 7 Rant

Well Guildwars has to do something to fix this error.Countless times it has disconnected people before being able to reach monks,at times monks which then makes it impossible to go any further in Tombs.

Just today, while zoning into level 3,I was putting my Grognar's Sword into my slot when I was disconnected, when I did reconnect a few minutes later I found the weapon gone !.This bug is costing me and crippling teams constantly

I haven't had a disconnect in a few weeks. Perhaps you'd want to check your internet connection. It's not always ANet's fault that people get disconnected. It can be any number of things including firewalls, bad routers, college networks, etc...

I'd gone weeks without a disconnection -- until the recent event. Since then I've found myself getting disconnected in Tombs, plus once while in Ember Light Camp. No biggy on that second occasion, but droping in the middle of Tombs can really screw the rest of your party.

Thankfully I haven't lost anything valuable due to disconnections, but the worry lurks in the back of my mind.

ANet has already stated that Error 7 is from network interruptions. And as far as I know, they've only had a server go down once. So the problem is most likely your ISP. Also, you might have a faulty network on your end. So, easy on the finger pointing...

I believe there are a few trouble shooting tips on the guild wars web site in support. You should check there and see if you can solve the problem.

Error 7 is a problem at your end, probs your net connection keeps going down or something.

I kept getting Code=7 disconnects after the Factions update. Sometimes I could play for an hour before getting disconnected, sometimes only ten minutes.

I really have no idea how this may related, but I removed my wireless router from the network and haven't hade a Code=7 since.

Its not Guild Wars its your connection, so basically Anet cannot do anything to fix people's connections.

Yeah, well, sh*t happens. Err=7 's mostly occur on your end of the connection, though. ANet's servers are pretty damn good, but ISPs are far from infallible...

after reading the random wireless interference problems horror stories i went the old style with the cable rats nest.

i have not had more than 3 err 7 since release (and one of those was confirmed by the ISP as an ongoing upgrade)

I have the rat's nest too. The D-Link wireless router is strictly for the laptop. My DSL uses a Westell "modem" which is actually a router/modem in one. It is common for the two devices to butt heads. It tends to be more reliable when the router is used as a bridge by plugging into two output jacks rather than using ethernet in/output out.

Used to have VO, but switched for a more lucrative offer from a Cable Internet provider.

Sorry Boxter but I kinda disagree. It's the internet. It's going to lag, fall over, break, go slow and drop out. Dealing with that fact should be part of the game design. More tolerance should be built into the net code. For example, increasing the timeout value before an err 7, trying different routes etc. Asking for a full reconnect facility is the ideal, but more resilency to network interuptions would help a lot. How often does a connection go down for 5 mins+ for example as opposed to 60 second lag spike. Both of which can trigger err 7, the latter being by far the most common

I guess it's a little like a car manufacturer not building adequate safety into their cars because the roads are bumpy...

well a solution to this problem would to allow ppl who got these errors to reconnect to whatever they were previously doing.

my D link router was causing me to drop a lot so I replaced it with a Wireless G link and have no problems since. I was getting net=7 diconnects saying something along the lines of a connecting wire being loose even though everything was securely plugged in. The wireless is for my wifes lap top, and the modem plugs into the G link and I have a wire from it to my computer. I have not disconnected in ever since I changed that out.

I work in the auto industry and man you have no idea how many silly complaints we get that are driver or emviromental related but blamed on the car.

Not this coming chapter but maybe the chapter after that I think Guild Wars should set higher standards.

They should make it so you MUST have the recommended graphics card for the game or you can't play it. I think everyone is pretty tired of people leaving and ruining it for the rest of the team even though it is on accident.
This will also allow guild wars to have better graphics and make it a game that truly stands out!

Yes, make a game with standards above everything else and leave people who are financially unable to upgrade their computers to comply with the requirements out of the question.

You're genius.

guess i need to add sarcasm tags and futher emphasize that his idea is purely retarded.

I'll disagree... if you got a crappy card and dial up... you still have a right to play. I hate games that force me to upgrade to the latest thing. I played GW on my computer's from the factory graphics card for about 6 months. They were an enjoyable 6 months even with the resolution set to low.

However with my new graphics card... GW took my breath away again.

Err 7 isn't a graphics error. Or, if it is, it's not always a graphics error. It's a connectivity error. Meaning, it deals with how you connect to the internet.

Not how you display your graphics.

Furthermore, the graphics in Guild Wars already look really nice - better than some of the other leading Massively Multiplayer games on the market right now, and many agree.

Yeah let's make sure I can't play the game this is a WONDERFUL idea.

Also, what does graphics have to do with error 7?

antialias02 is totally correct. Error 7 is a connections error. i know so u know how? i run duel 7800gt's with a and AMD Athlon 64 4000+ with over a gig of DDR Memory on a badass Asus Motherboard. and i still get Error 7 now and then. i have cable service from optimum, and get random Error 7's to find my connection is lagged at that moment.

I agree. People that you always gotta wait for gets pretty gay. And they make it so you have to have highspeed internet. No more dial up crap.

You know, there are locations in the United States that don't even have any type of broadband internet access. Doesn't mean people shouldn't be allowed to play a great game because they have a rather slow connection. That's selfish.

The OP is a genius. Anet should bundle Factions with high speed fiber.

People who game seriously should NEVER use wireless connections. This includes those wireless keyboards and mice.

umm, just FYI.

error 7 is ALWAYS the fault of the user, or isp, and has nothing to do with anet whatsoever.

it is caused by a routing issue outside of arenanets network.

my suggestion; get off dialup or change to a more reputable DSL/cable ISP
