question about pvp and pve (i am new)

i have a question about if you make a pve character are there places to play pvp or do you have to make a pvp character at the start and just do that. i guess what i am saying is is pve and pvp linked together questing and all and the pvp characters that you can make is just for tournys. or is the pvp and pve totally separate and you need to have a sep charater for each or you have to log on to sep server to do either. i hope i make sense and please explain this to me. i think the game is ausome either way.

you can take your pve toon and use it for any pvp or pve

RP characters can do everything, but have to start at level 1. PvP characters are restricted to PvP areas and can only use things your RP characters have unlocked, but start at level twenty.
