Hello,

I already have some experience with Warriors and Rangers and I have been farming alot with my Warrior. But now, I wanna go the hard way. Going UW and solo it everyday. Now I got some questions:
Is the Monk the most difficult profession to control? I mean, it's a really hard job for a Monk to heal and protect his allies, no?
Is the Monk easier to farm with? Monks can farm UW, Warriors don't.
Can a Monk complete UW for 100%?
Or anything else I need to know about Monks?

Now, farming isn't my only objective, I wanna have fun too!

Tips or suggestions are highly appreciated!

well i have a Mo/N myself
i used a 55hp build in combination with Spitefull spirit.
very usefull for griffon/minotaur/hydra farming. lots faster then a W/?

and about the healing/protection part, try to focus one 1 way thing, so heal OR protect(u can use both but i will be less efective).
and 1 more thing about healing/protecting, watch ur energy, dont heal/protect when it isnt needed

about the UW part, dont ask me, i reached lvl 20 in 3 days but aint ascented yet.

if u need any help just ask me.

a. for your farming monk (aka 55 monk or invinci monk):
http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/s...d.php?t=103461

b. nothing is 100%, its all possiable with enough exp and timing, Uw solo run for the record is not easy and if u plan doing it u should prob start off with augury rock or rankor for practice.

c. your are talking about 2 complete different builds, 1st is the 55 monk that is solo farming and mainly based on 1 "power spell" (prot spirit), the heal build is nothing close to it and also divide into builds (main groups are pve and pvp).

d. if you are playing a heal or prot monk in pvp or pve its not easy also. u need a lot of mind on your teammate health (hell even thier pets, if the pet die thier skills are dissable for 5 sec?), the hex, wound etc the have on them (mand cond, remove hex etc), and the prob most important: energy management. you can be the greatest monk in the world but with not enough energy to save your teammate in time, your nothing more then a meat shield.

hope i helped this one of my 1st replies here.

Playing the role as Monk in GW is is one of the most chellenging professions in the game next to say Elementalist and the rest of the castor class. The reason why is you have to make sure you keep everyone health up and watch your energy. This requires lots of practice and getting all you skills and trying to see what skills you like or that fits you.I would forget about the 55 build for now and concentrate on just playing the role as a Monk and don't get runthrough game play it the way it meant to be so you will learn your skills. There is nothing worse than a bad Monk and they are out there believe me.I would concentate on healing and protect ad see what one you like the best.

Agreed with Age. Playing as a monk is challenging. When I started playing a monk, I made sure I played quests and missions again (my 4th character). Some of these were boring and tedious but I made sure that I did them to learn how to play a monk. I took henchies along because they don't yell at me when they die Once I got used to it, I made sure that I left monk henchies out of the party to see if I can cope as a healing monk. So far so good, I've just got ascended and finished The Dragon's Lair mission.

I spend abit of time reviewing my skillset and trying out combinations of spells to see what works for me, to heal/protect efficiently while maintaining reasonable energy.

As a monk, it has changed the way I play, compared to playing a warrior, mesmer or ranger. I pay little attention to what is going on (e.g. who is the called target, who is charging at us, etc.), my eyes are firmly glued to the party's health bars during combat. I try hard to resist joining the battle and stay behind and out of harms. I do miss attacking and making the kill, but making sure the party is protected and in good health is just as rewarding.

Things does get very exciting when you have try and keep a full party of 8 alive, especially when there are mobs all over the place, and team members are being degen and constantly taking hits.

Tips or suggestions are highly appreciated! I think being a Monk is great fun. I usually insist on being the only healer on the team because otherwise it feels like easy mode. If you are in charge of healing an entire team of 8, it is a nonstop button mash. It is great. Thrilling. If you do well, so does the team. You make a mistake, the whole team could die. It is fun. And you don't have problems finding teams.

If you are going to go solo in the UW, you are going to find a tough road. In priciple a 55 monk is just a matter of learning to keep your enchantments up. UW requires more attention because you need to remember to also use Bonetti's to cover healing breeze and you other longer casting spells. Then there are the Dying Nightmares. They are a chore to deal with. They are designed by the devs to end your trip. Yours, as a 55 monk. They made them specifically for you. They strip all your enchantments and die. And so you do. There are methods to deal with them (running away is the best) But it is all moot if you don't see them. They are black and sneaky. Anyway, UW soloing will be fun if you like a challenge. But it will also be expensive....

5 superior monk runes 50-70 plat. Plus each trip to the UW is 1 plat. And you'll die quite often until you get it down, but even then, you'll still die. You could be looking at 100 plat by the time you're confident at doing it.

i first tried a PVP only monk and i found it very difficult to heal/protect, i ended up making a role playing monk and i think beacuse i went through and got so many skills at a time and went from healing 4 people, to 6, to 8 that it got easier with the experiance.

Im going to agree with mathijn, either protect or heal, and dont do it unless it is needed.

Obviously farming is good for the 55hp build.

On one hand, monking is boring. I spend a LOT of time starting at the health bars of party mates.

On the other hand, I am a fantastic monk and LOVE LOVE LOVE getting continuous flawless victories in PvP.

I would prefer to be a Life Barrier/Ward monk. Or something where I'm not actually healing a lot. But that would only be useful in PvE.

Monking in PvE is EASY. I need to pick my PvE monk back up and finish him so I can pvp with him (I've just been creating a second pvp monk for that purpose).

You'll run into a lot of trouble as a newbie monk. People will get angry at you for not healing properly etc. But, almost every pug needs a monk, so you'll always have something to do.
