Lots of War/Mes builds now?

I logged on for the first time in a couple months yesterday and one of the first things I noticed was lots of players with War/Mes builds.

I have been used to seeing most Warriors using Monk as second class but Mesmer as a second class was rare, what has changed? Has the Monk been further nerfed so it is not even usable as a secondary class or has the Mesmer been beefed up?

W/Me

Perhaps people are tiring of the gale warrior (W/E), and W/Me is decent in PvP. (W/Mo is decent too, but few dare bring a paladin to a match now...)

If you mean PvE I don't know why they'd use W/Me, in PvE it's the closest thing guildwars got to a gimped build IMO.

Two reasons spring to mind right now, 1) they are good in new Tombs, bearing in mind that Finger of Chaos (orwhatever its called) removes enchantments making W/Mo and W/E pretty bad and 2) having played against the Illusionary Weapon team in Zaishen challenge a lot of people may emulate that build as its a little different.

As stated above, it's most likely because of the new Tombs PvE area.

ive been in a team that wanted a w/me so i asked

"why u specifically want a w/me"

i was told w/me can b better than w/mo,

1)becaus of fingers of chaos (obviously)
2) mantra of fire, etc u can get mesmer skills that help ure defence out vs ele damage

as for PvP i guess w/me can use skills like blackout on monks or eles which can be usefull to get monks down and basically ware them down till they got to much DP (usful for GvG i must add)

Actually, I find Warrior/Mesmer to be far superior than Warrior/Monk in PvE for many areas. A lot of people are catching onto the armor tank warriors. For example, if you know you are going to an area with mostly melee opponents, Physical Resistance, Dolyak Signet, and Watch Yourself will make you take zero damage to normal attacks. In areas with a lot of elemental damage, using Elemental Resistance or some Mantras instead of Physical Resistance will make you take near zero damage to elemental attacks and spells. Dolyak and Watch Yourself will more than coverup the drawbacks of using Ele/Physical Resistance. Wa/Me who used to solo farm for the IDS will understand the tanking ability of of this build. You can tank 30 Ice Imps and cast healing signet right through it and you will still gain 100+ hp because you are taking only 1-2 damage per hit. It certainly beats a Wa/Mo who heals himself in many situations. It doesn't take much points in inspiration to use the resistances/mantras because they last fairly long, so you can still invest many points into dealing damage.

Yeah, in PvE over the last couple months:

1) IDS runs, Elemental Resistance is da bomb
2) PvE Tombs, Illusionary Weaponry is da bomb
3) FoW Spider runs, Physical Resistance is da bomb

In other words, W/Me = $$$$$$$$$$

I've been using w/me for months, actually it was my first char hehe started off IW but moved onto more solid tank

A few variations on that around now, made popular with the Icy Dragon Sword farming as well, there's a thread and video with w/mes and elemental resistance.

Pff, y'all go back to being wammos!

W/me's using Blackout were briefly popular in GvG a while back, but were just eclipsed by Gale wars. I can see their uses in certain PVE areas, but apart from Blackout theres not much in the Mesmer line to suit a PVP Warrior.

Easy. Mesmer secondary is closest to the gate in Ascalon in Pre-sear.

Comments such as this annoy me greatly and is one of the reasons why I no longer play with randoms. Finger of chaos only removes enchantments if your 1st or 2nd profession is monk. Elementalist 2nd profs are not affected.

Very true, but the constant interrupts are very annoying for a W/E...I tried it a couple times, then went back to W/Me.
